My Daughter

Chapter My Daughter 3

Chapter 3

My daughter passed away, and the mourning

hall was filled with sobs.

The child I had carried for ten months and spent

five years raising was now just a small, square

box.

“Strange, isn’t it?”

“The child died, but where’s the father?”

Several relatives voiced their confusion.

A bitter pain swelled in my heart. I repeatedly dialed that familiar number on my phone. All I got in return was a cold, mechanical response.

On the tenth call, someone finally picked up. An impatient voice came through, “Cloris, what do you want?”

Even without seeing him, I could tell Ken was speaking cautiously in a low voice.

“Ken, come see Diana one last time…”

My voice was hoarse. Ken seemed surprised but quickly regained his usual tone.

All Diana ever wanted was her father’s love.

I wanted to fulfill her wish on this last day, so I begged Ken. I begged him to attend our daughter’s funeral, to… see her one last time.

“What nonsense are you talking about? Stop it, Cloris. Hannah just had surgery and needs

someone by her side. Be reasonable. I’ll come back to you once she’s out of the hospital, alright?”

Ken’s voice echoed in the room, and the people around us sighed.

“Ken, Ken… please… Come see Diana. Diana’s funeral is today…”

I threw away all my pride, begging him in a low, pleading voice.

But he showed no mercy.

“Cloris! No matter what, you shouldn’t curse your daughter like this.”

I knelt on the floor, sobbing until I nearly

fainted. After a while, a delicate voice broke through, “Ken… it hurts…”

“Hannah’s awake. I have to go,” he said before hanging up.

I suddenly felt my eyelids grow heavy, and the world turned upside down. Faintly, I heard urgent cries:

“Someone, help!”

“Cloris! Cloris! She’s fainted!”
