Chapter 17: There’s No Need to Pretend in Front of Me, Anna
When Mirabelle heard his words, her face was as white as sheet. She looked so pale, as if she were going to be frozen to death.
She forgot that even though she had claimed herself to be Brooklyn's fiancée, she was still a perfumer of the Moss Group before she officially married him!
Brooklyn's words revealed her true identity as a competitor of the Powell Group.
Mirabelle was so shocked that she could no longer stand firmly. She felt so shaky that even a touch could make her fall to the ground.
Not only Mirabelle, but Diana and Harper were shocked too.
It seemed that the relationship between Brooklyn and Mirabelle was worse than she had ever imagined. Then, Diana stopped staring at Mirabelle and turned to Brooklyn.
"Mr. Powell, since Ms. Moss has apologized, there's none of my business here. So, I will go back and do my own work first. I will come back when you have other instructions."
Diana's initial intention had been achieved by letting Mirabelle apologize to her.
Originally, she thought that the both of them were very close. She even planned to start attacking their relationship in order to revenge Mirabelle.
But now, it seemed that the relationship between Brooklyn and Mirabelle was not that close and harmonious in the first place.
Marriage between the wealthy families was normally for the sake of business cooperation. Today, it was clear that Brooklyn did not take Mirabelle as his own family member when he treated her like that. "Stop." Brooklyn spoke coldly, "Who told you to leave?"
She deliberately chose to let the letter reached the villa at the same time when he returned to the villa, so that he could read the contents of the letter. Now that her intention had achieved, she was still trying to slip away now.
Diana's feet, which were ready to leave, paused and turned around. She kept a smile on her face.
"Mr. Powell, do you have any additional request?"
Brooklyn did not answer her immediately, but repeated his words, "Harper, ask the driver to send Ms. Moss back."
"Okay, Mr. Powell." Harper turned and smiled apologetically at Mirabelle, "Ms. Moss, please cooperate."
Mirabelle had always maintained an image of a gentle and generous daughter of the Moss family in front of the public.
Harper had clearly mentioned his request, how could she not cooperate with him and insist to stay here?
When Mirabelle passed by Diana, she sniffed a faint and familiar fragrance...
"You..." Mirabelle stopped and stared at Diana inquisitively.
"Is there anything you want me to do for you?" Diana gave her a bright smile, "If you want to make perfume for you again, you are welcome to find me as long as you state your requirements and complete the payment."
"Humph!" Mirabelle snorted coldly. She would be a fool if she sought for Anna's help to make perfume again!
Millions of dollars were wasted. In addition, her action had provoked Brooklyn to dislike her even more. She made a bad bargain this time.
After Mirabelle left, Diana stood in Brooklyn's office. The two looked at each other for a while, and then Diana broke the silence.
"Mr. Powell, no wonder you wanted me to stay here." She gently bent forward and leaned on the desk. She acted like a bad woman trying to seduce her own boss, "Your relationship with Ms. Moss is not as cordial as the rumors, right? Almost every man will try to keep a pretty woman like me by their side."
Brooklyn sat there quietly and watched Diana brag about herself.
After a minute or two of silence, he spoke slowly, but he avoided her question, "You purposely send to letter when I return to the villa, because you know that Mirabelle will not apologize to people easily." Brooklyn's voice was cold. It sounded like a stream of water, flowing through Diana's heart.
She had to admit that except for his outstanding handsome appearance, Brooklyn's voice could also easily make her heart beat.
"Mr. Powell, what are you talking about? I can't really understand." Diana blinked her big eyes twice, looking as innocent as she could be.
She had a hot body and seductive makeup, but she owned an innocent and flawless face.
She did not know how attractive she was when she showed that innocent look in front of a man.
Brooklyn's eyes deepened. The corners of his lips tugged a little and he leaned back lazily into the chair.
"There's no need to pretend in front of me, Anna." Brooklyn's inquisitive gaze fell on her, trying to see her thoroughly, "If you're a smart woman, you shouldn't continue to test me, at least not when I'm still interested in you."
The man's tone was the same as how he was in the past, which was the cold and apathic tone that Diana was familiar with.
However, she sensed a hint of warning from his words.
Brooklyn had taken over the company when he was only 15 years old. He was excellent in observing. Hence, Diana would not dare to continue playing tricks in front of him even if she was a bold person. She pulled back her body from the table and stood up straight. Her red lips opened and closed as she spoke softly, "Mr. Powell, since you know everything, why are you still playing games with me?" "You need to pay the price for having me to play with you."
Diana snorted secretly in her heart, "What's the price?" She couldn't help to feel nervous about it.
'But please don't let it be the common game he liked, letting a woman sleep with him again!' Thought Diana.
Diana had just changed her impression towards Brooklyn recently. She hoped that he would not act like other men, whose mind was filled with all those lustful thoughts!
Brooklyn's condition was simple, "You will work in my office in the future."
Diana could not figure out why he gave such an unbelievable condition, even Harper, who had been working with Brooklyn for many years, could not understand the intention behind this statement. Harper had just sent someone to send Mirabelle back to the villa. Right after that, he received an order to move Anna's desk to Brooklyn's private office.
Harper was extremely efficient in his actions. In less than half a day, Anna's desk appeared in Brooklyn's large and luxurious office, as well as a matching bookrack and a rest area for her. Harper couldn't help to think about the weird attitude of Brooklyn towards Diana these days. Brooklyn was so weird that he even ordered Mirabelle to apologize to Diana today.
A terrible thought appeared in his mind, which was Brooklyn had fallen in love with Anna.
However, Harper could not help to recall the day he met Anna in the Michelin restaurant. She was with her two kids that day.
How was he going to tell his boss that Anna was a woman with two kids?
Harper began to feel worried about this matter and he acted as if he had lost his soul.
And the same went for Diana.
Diana had just opened her computer and was trying to concentrate on her work when she felt a pair of eyes were staring at her from the other end of the room. Several times in a row, her thoughts were interrupted by that person.
She needed huge concentration to think about the composition and ratio of perfume, but Brooklyn's gaze always distracted her.
"Mr. Powell, I know I look good, and there are many men who like me, but I can't concentrate on my work if you keep looking at me like this..."
Diana lifted her head and looked towards him. She started to whisper as she looked at him.
She didn't know when the man fell asleep.
He was holding his chin and his eyes closed gently.
Diana got up and walked quietly to his desk.
He had such thick eyelashes that could make any woman jealous. He also had a straight and delicate nose, and two thin and light-colored lips... Diana silently observed the face of the sleeping man.
In the quiet office, she could hear the man's breathing, and her loud heartbeat.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
