Chapter 226
Selena tried to free herself, but it was no use. Her only option was to close her eyes, her long lashes fluttering gently like delicate butterflies in flight, as she waited silently for him to finish.
Everett gazed at her lovely face, the water streaming down, tracing paths over her pale cheeks, making her look like a water nymph-so enchanting and tender-hearted. It was hard not to be drawn in. Her thin, silk nightgown was drenched, hugging her curves and revealing the graceful lines of her body-the way it hinted at what lay beneath only added to her allure. Everett watched her closely, his eyes dark and mysterious, full of an intense desire that seemed to want to engulf her completely. He was already lost in his longing; how could he let her stay clear-headed while he was so consumed?
Without warning, he leaned in and bit her lip hard, not holding back. Selena winced, pain crumpling her features as a tiny trickle of blood appeared at the corner of her mouth.
"What are you doing?" Selena snapped, a touch of anger in her voice. She was cooperating with him, and yet he went ahead and bit her?
If he was into some weird fetish, she was definitely not going to play along. He could entertain his whims with his mistresses or whoever else he wanted!
"Oh, now you know pain?"
There was an unexpected satisfaction in Everett's voice. He gently licked the wound on her lip, an intimate yet ambiguous gesture. Then, leaning close to her ear, he whispered, "Who told you to tell Nadia she'd get a headline if she managed to split us up? This is your punishment!"
He was annoyed that she had pushed him towards another woman.
The thought struck Selena as utterly ridiculous.
He had gone looking for other women and had even let one parade in front of her. Now, he was blaming her for being too easygoing.
"What's this? You're already bored with Nadia after a week and hoped I'd help you get rid of her?"
That was the only explanation she could think of.
Selena's eyes danced with mockery. "Mr. Bennett, you should've let me know sooner. As the professional Mrs. Bennett, I'd have sorted it out for you perfectly." Despite her sarcasm, Everett felt a rare sense of satisfaction.
Yes, this was the Selena he knew. She was never one to quietly endure anything, nor was she some fragile flower. Even if she seemed demure and pleasant on the outside, deep down, she was still the feisty spirit who could bite back!
Everett's slender fingers tilted her chin up, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Selena, you're jealous. You still care."
He said it with certainty.
Where did he get that idea from? Was he dreaming again?
Selena almost rolled her eyes but held back.
Arguing with him was draining, and she didn't want to waste her energy on him anymore.
"Mr. Bennett, are we doing this or not? If not, could you leave? I'm cold..."
Selena's voice took on a soft, gentle tone.
Realizing she wasn't budging,
Everett's smile faded. He still wanted her, of course, but he wanted a physical and emotional connection, not just one-sided.
He'd always been a master at getting what he wanted and never felt stuck, but with Selena, he felt an unfamiliar helplessness.
When he stayed silent and unmoving, she couldn't take it any longer, worried she'd catch a chill and fall ill. She pushed him away and turned to leave. She had barely taken a step when he caught her shoulder and pulled her back.
Everett's dark eyes locked onto hers,
his lips parting slightly. At that
moment, unsure of his own thoughts, he blurted out, "Selena,
you're the only woman I've ever been with!"
