Mine

Chapter 59

Kimberly's eyes fluttered open but a bright light caused her to shut them back.

"What's that?” She wondered, trying to open her eyes again.

She repeated the process three times before her eyes adjusted to the bright light. She glanced at her surrounding, trying to figure out where she was.

Where the hell I'm I? This isn't my bedroom, neither is it Roy's or Hugh's.

Her heartbeat quickens at the thought of those two names, as the memories of the war came flooding back making it difficult for her to breathe. The sound of something beeping and her dad rushing to her side, pressing a button with a worried look was the last thing she heard and saw before going unconscious again.

Kimberly woke up again, this time, to the sound of the beeping beside her. She realized she was still in the same place. When she tried to sit up, she noticed tubes were attached to her body, that's when she realized that she was actually in the hospital.

“Let me help you.” She heard someone say. She turned towards the direction of the voice and saw her dad.

He stood up from the recliner he was previously sitting on and helped her to sit up, placing pillows behind to make her comfortable. When he felt she was comfortable enough, he settled on the seat beside her bed and took her small hand in his, stroking her hair with his free hand as he stared adoringly at his beautiful daughter.

Kimberly closed her eyes to enjoy her dad's touch. Gosh, Has she missed him!

“I'm.. sorry.” She suddenly apologized, breaking the silence.

He deserved an apology after being lied to about her whereabouts. He deserved more than an apology because he trusted her with his whole heart, not once did he doubt whatever she told him. He was a loving father, the best anyone could ever wish for. But she, she was a terrible daughter who took advantage of her dad's trust.

If only she could turn back the hands of time, she would never had lied to her dad, that way none of the things she went through would have happened. This is all her fault, she was to blame for everything that happened.

"Hey, hey princess. Please, don't cry.” Her dad cooed, making it more difficult for her to feel less guilty.

“I'm so sorry dad... I-1 s-shouldn't have a-agreed to go on that trip. I-1 didn't mean to I-lie to you. All of this is my f-fault.” She sobbed, stuttering in the process.

“Shhh, princess. You are not to blame for anything.. although I'm mad at you for disobeying me..." Mr. Wright quietly said while soothing her.

“But, never blame yourself for anything... Tony explained everything to me.”

Kimberly now knew why he wasn't yelling at her for lying to him and disobeying him. Mr. Gareth had already told him about the incident that occurred before the trip. She was internally grateful to Mr. Gareth, although it didnt make her feel any better as she still felt guilty for lan and his friends deaths.

If she hadn't agreed to go on the trip, maybe they would have cancelled and done something else and those lives wouldn't have been lost.

She felt like she had some sort of bad luck attached to her because everyone she loves and wants to be with, ends up dying, either before getting to know her or after.

First, it was her mom, then lan and his friends and now Roy and Hugh. She clutched her chest, feeling that sharp pain again.

"Honey, please stop crying. You're hurting yourself.” Mr. Wright pleaded with his daughter, sitting on the bed to hold her in a warm embrace.

She cried into her dad's chest, holding unto his shirt like she want him to ever leave.

“It's alright, love. I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere.” He assured her, sensing her insecurities. “Promise me, dad? She murmured as her sobs turned to sniffs.

“I promise, love. I promise” he reassured, causing Kimberly to hug him even tighter.

“Do you think you're ready to see Tony?" he then asked, making her tense.

"Hey, it's okay. I only asked because he has been here for the past one week waiting for you to wake up.” Her dad explained.

Kimberly didn't know if she was ready to see the father of her deceased fiancé. She was too scared of how he would react towards her. There is no doubt he'd hate her for causing his son's death. "He doesn’t blame you for anything that happened.” Her dad spoke up like he could read her thoughts.

She let out a heavy sigh and said,

“I think I'm ready to see him.”
