Chapter Chapter Thirty Nine
Pic of Logan
Hailey’s POV
It was dark and scary. My head felt heavy and my eyes refused to open. I forced myself to take a deep breath and try to find any familiar scent. The air around was damp and cold. I could smell the saltiness from the sea. I would lie if I said I wasn’t scared right now. Suddenly my head started to pound. I could hear loud thumps ring in my ears and I prayed for it to stop. I couldn’t feel my wolf, I begged for her to help me but when I tried I couldn’t even sense her. I stared to panic and with all my will I forced my eyes open, the pain in my head intensified and I felt nauseous. After what felt like a long time, I sat up and looked around. I was in a small stone walled room. There was moss and fungus on the walls and the place looked damp and musty. I was lying on a small cot; beside it was a stool with a small candle to light the room. I looked up and saw an opening at the very top of the room, but it was too narrow to escape.
A small wooden door at the right corner suddenly flung open and a young girl entered and behind her a broad, muscular man. The girl looked at me in sadness and I didn’t know why. If this was Logan’s doing, then kidnapping me was a really low blow, especially for him. I glared daggers at the man as he stared at me with lust in his eyes. I wanted to claw those disgusting eyes out. He pushed the girl towards me and she stumbled but held the wall and steadied herself.
“You better get ready. The master wants you to join him for supper.” He ordered. I snarled at his tone. “Don’t you dare order me, you arrogant mutt.” I snapped. He walked up to me and slapped me across the face. The blow made my head ring and my vision blurred. I shook my head, and picked up the burning candle and with a swift motion, threw the molten wax on his face. He yelled and I smiled in satisfaction, my cheek hurt but his screams were a balm to the pain.
“You bitch.” He yelled, he pulled out a knife and pointed it to me. “You don’t want to that. The master doesn’t want to harm her.” A small timid voice echoed in the room. The man turned to her and slowly drew back his knife, he glared at me and I smiled, loving his dejected look. “He doesn’t want to harm her, yet.” He said in completion. “I swear when he is done with you, I will make sure you wish he had killed you.” He spat at me. I chuckled and shook my head at him. “Oh you wish.” His face became red with rage, as the young girls lips twitched in a smile.
“Get her ready.” He barked and then walked out the door, slamming it behind him. The young girl walked to the wall across the bed and opened a small closet which I didn’t notice before. She entered it and came out with a long covered dress. She gently placed it on the bed and walked to me. I sent her a questioning look and she just smiled sadly. “This is what you must wear.” She said. I frowned, not liking the idea of being forced to do something because this master wanted me too. She reached down and removed the dress from the bag and my breath stopped. The dress was beyond beautiful. It was in the most magnificent color i had ever seen. The color resembled a starless night sky. It was an off shoulder dress with a very narrow waist. From the hip it flowed into layers, overlapping and it fell perfectly around. Behind, the layers bunched together forming a small bow and then continued down. It was so delicate and made from perfection.
“It is nice isn’t it?” She said smiling at my expression. I nodded but didn’t say anything. “I know you don’t want to do this, but I think you should. You’ll get to see your enemy finally. And also this dress is meant to be worn by someone as great as you.” She advised. I thought on her words and realized she was right. Maybe this way I’ll get to see where exactly I was and put a face to this Logan. I urged my wolf to respond but she remand silent. Worry entered me because she never stayed so silent. What did they do to her? She gently tapped my shoulder and brought me out of my thoughts. She started doing my hair and then from a small pouch she took some basic make up and applied it on my face. I stood still and let her beatify me all the time just wondering what was going to happen.
“So what is your name?” I asked in curiosity. “Lydia.” she replied. “Lydia can I ask you something?” She nodded but didn’t stop with her work. “What are you and why are you here?”
She let out a deep breath, “I was a witch. My tribe was murdered. I was the tribe leaders child and he found it amusing to have a chiefs daughter as his servant. I have been here for the past four years and all that time I had heard a lot about you. Its an honor to finally meet you in person.” She smiled.
“If you’re a witch didn’t you try to use your powers and escape?” I wondered out loud. “I did try to run but he then took away my power by poisoning my blood. He is a cruel man and he has done worse to many more.” She said, rage and hurt evident in her voice. my heart filled with pity for her and all those who had to suffer his wrath. After a while, she stepped back and looked at me in admiration. Then she brought the dress and helped me gt into it, all the while awing at my beauty. i was beyond flattered.
She took me to a narrow mirror and through the blur reflection I saw myself and I did indeed look amazing. The dress was a perfect fit and the layers fell down till the ground. She stepped from behind and gave me a black rose. The rose was so sad and gloomy yet it was gorgeous and perfect in its own weird way. I held it in my hand while my mind went to the amazing night I had with Zach. It was so perfect until all of it went downhill. Suddenly a picture of him in pain and lying on the ground in that alley crossed my mind. I jumped in terror and tears welled up in my eyes. What did they do to him? Was he okay? I needed to see him. I turned and walked out the door in desperation. Outside the door were two guards standing and when they saw me, they stepped beside me and gestured me to follow them. The young girl stayed in room and gave me small encouraging smile.
The hallway was long and the ceiling was curved like a huge tunnel. It was damp and dark, only light came from the candles along the walls, sending this eerie feeling through my body. The guards didn’t make any conversation just looked straight ahead. I glanced around and saw many wooden doors on the pathway, but they looked bolted. Did he have other prisoners? This place must be his fortress. From the looks of it, this place must be easily a few hundred years old. No one built castles of stone, especially like this one. After a while we reached a tall archway and above that there was no roof. The dark black sky loomed above me, the smell of the sea heightened. Not a sound came from around, not a chirp of a bird or the buzzing of an insect. It was just a deafening silence and it made me very uneasy. I closed my eyes and tried to connect with my wolf, but I just felt empty. We walked under the archway and the entered a small opening inside another huge wall that was separated from the first part of the fortress.
“Miss, get in there.” One of the men spoke, in a gruff voice. I looked to where he pointed and saw a huge doorway, the doors were decorated with silver intricate designs and it was completely different from the rest of the place. Bright light shined from inside and soft music played from within. Slowly with cautious step I entered the room and inside was an atmosphere that didn’t belong in a dark gloomy castle. There was big table with different kinds of food and fruits. It was a banquet fit for kings and the decor was done with at most care. I was so at awe with my surrounding that I didn’t notice a door open from the opposite side of the room.
“Indeed. You are more beautiful in person.” came a smooth deep voice. A tall man stood in front of me. He had brown hair with few flicks of grey hair and sparkling grayish brown eyes. He had a French beard and a dazzling smile. The crows feet on the corner of his eyes made him look even more handsome. There was a very rugged aura about him that made him look like a sexy yet mature man. If he wasn’t a person I hated so much I’d definitely be crushing on him. His flashed his perfect teeth but I just returned it with a blank face. His eyes roamed my body and I knew he was definitely turned on by my attire.
“You look ravishing in that dress darling. I knew this was your color.” He praised himself and walked up to me, took my hand in his and kissed it. I flinched and pulled it back, scowling at him. He chuckled but let it slide and placed his hand lightly on my back, guiding me to the table. Pulling out a chair he gestured me to sit down. Hesitant at first, I sat down and watched him go across and sit opposite me. All the while he had a gentle smile on his face and he didn’t look like a cruel person. Something felt odd but I couldn’t quite understand what. A small boy holding a bottle of wine came up and served us the wine with a frightened look on his face. When he was serving me, I noticed his tiny palms shiver in fright. Who were these children? Did he torture them? My blood boiled when the thought of Logan injuring these poor young children. They had nothing to do in his weird fantasy of ruling the world.
“So Hailey, how do you like my humble home? Is it up to your satisfaction?” He asked with genuine interest. “What do you want with me Logan? Don’t you think it little lame and desperate to kidnap me?” I questioned him watching his smile grow wider. “Oh Hailey. I didn’t kidnap you. I just brought you to stay here with me. All this,” he signalled around the room, “is for you. I wanted you to be with me and I get what I want.” He chuckled.
“This is all for nothing because I am not giving you anything. All these efforts are for nothing. I know what must be done and it will be.” I stated in finality and smirked when I saw his bright smile falter. “You misunderstood me. I don’t want anything from you. I just want you.” He smiled as he took a sip from his glass. “And that good-for-nothing mate of yours can’t possible give you all that I can.” He shrugged. I wanted to reach out and bite his neck off. How dare he speak of Zach like that? I urged my wolf to come out and fight but like before she was not there.
’Ahh you must be wondering why you’re wolf isn’t responding, I’m afraid that is my doing.” His face showed fake concern. “What did you do to her?” I asked fear bubbling within me, I couldn’t lose her. “Don’t worry Hailey I just put her to sleep. Now I don’t want you to go all wolf crazy on me now, do I? I wanted a civilized conversation with you.” He said, sipping his wine and then digging into his food. I felt sick and bile rose in my mouth, “What did you do?” I yelled slamming my hand on the table and knocking off my glass. He slowly looked at me with a cunning expression and felt something stir inside me. Was it my wolf, I had no clue. “Calm down Hailey, it’s just a small drug some witches I own came up with. It’s nothing just weakens your wolf.” He said casually. My heart stooped, was she alright?
“What is it you are trying to achieve Logan?” I asked him. “I just want to rule everything.” He replied, flashing me his smile. “But killing and torturing your own kind isn’t going o make you great.“I stated. “That is where you are wrong Hailey. Fear is everything. They well do anything because they fear me. I know each and every one’s weak spot and to take undue advantage of that is kind of my forte.” He chuckled. I balled my hands and wished to ram it into his snide face. I felt my wolf in me shift and I could feel her connection. It wasn’t a strong one but I knew she was there. She felt weak but her strength was slowly building up. I needed to distract him from noticing my wolf awake.
“It’s not possible for you to achieve anything. I will kill you; even the fates have prophesied it.” I pointed out. His face suddenly changed. No longer was smiling Logan in front of me, but rather a face with a scowl and rage within his eyes. I watched his canine extend out and I knew I had hit a nerve. “That prophesy is bullshit. And you are my prisoner. I can kill you whenever I please.” He growled, intimidating me with his fangs. I shrugged, “well if that is the case then why did you silence my wolf. What are you scared of?” I interrogated. His nostrils widened in anger and I gave him a triumphed smile.
Suddenly his features changed and he gave me a sinister smile. “Hailey you don’t want to mess with me. I can do the same thing I did to your parents to your sweet mate Zach. Too bad your time with him was so short.” He smirked. I my nails dug into my palm and felt the anger of my wolf connect with me. She was awake, I knew it. I closed my eyes and welcomed her powered into my veins. I closed my eye and my body shook with rage. He shouldn’t have brought Zach into this. And he will pay for all the he did to my family.
I heard a loud gasp from Logan and I opened my eyes and saw the table was suspended in mid air, and it was slowly advancing towards him. I realized this was my doing and I urged it to knock him out. I got up from my chair and walked towards him as the tabled hug just above him. “How are you doing this?” He yelled, as I lifted my hands and watched as the broken glass pieces rose up and surrounded him like piercing knives. His eyes held terror and his hands shook.
“Didn’t you know Logan, that I had my father’s power as well? Oh wait you didn’t because the witch you thought was on your side was actually on mine, wasn’t she?” I mocked him. He glared at me with hate and I felt my wolf laugh at him.
“Sometime things don’t happen your way, deal with it.” I snarled, my fangs wanted to taste his blood. Suddenly I heard someone come up from behind me and before I could react someone pointed a dart gun ant me and next second I felt a sharp jab on my shoulder. I turned back to Logan with everything I could muster I urged the glass to stab him and dropped the table on him. Before I could make sure I felt my mind grow numb and I fell to the ground. The last thing I heard before I lost consciousness was Logan’s scream in agony.
