Midnight Luna

Chapter Chapter Thirty Five

Hailey’s POV

The place was a mess. Mothers tried to hurry away with their little one’s looking for shelter, some young girls and boys helped calm the children down. The elderly were being led to safety. They were all headed to the underground shelter that was a little in the woods. The rest were trying to put out the fire on the far side of the forest that would soon reach the houses. The pack house was also on fire from the west side. There was a group of around hundred rogues fighting our warriors and from here I could see that we weren’t doing very well. They took us by surprise and we were just not ready.

After the warrior who entered the barn informed us about the attack, Zach sprinted out followed by Hayden and the rest. By the time I exited the barn I had lost him in the crowd. I helped some mothers to the shelter and made sure all those who were not fighting were safe and secure there. I went around the pack house to make sure no one was trapped inside. After I was satisfied, my eyes searched for Zach but I couldn’t see him. Esmeralda was tending to the injured by helping the pack nurses give them first aid. When she met my eyes, she nodded at me and then pointed at the fire, that was when I knew what I must do. Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes and imagined the clouds in the sky clash together, creating a loud rumbling sound. My mind filled with the images of rain falling on us and wiping out the fires on the land. As I concentrated harder, within moments I heard the gushing sound of rain and soon I was drenched. I opened my eyes and smiled seeing most of the fire dying out. After the fire in pack house and the forest was extinguished, I tilted my head up to the sky and ordered the rain to stop. Few wolves around were surprised by the sudden and short downpour.

I eyes the wolves fighting, desperately searching for Zach, finally seeing him fighting five really large wolves. He fought them and gave them a few good scratches but they were too many for him to handle and I could make out he was injured. I watched in horror as they cornered him but he kept attacking them. Everyone was busy fighting and he had no one to help him. When a grey wolf bit Zach on the shoulder while the others held him down my mind went on auto drive and I saw red. I sprinted toward them and when I reached them I looked at the grey wolf and imagined his neck snap and smirked when I heard the loud crack, watching him slump to the ground dead. Three brown wolves then noticed me, letting go of Zach and growled at me. Well I guess they didn’t like to see their friend drop dead with no reason and I smiled cunningly at them urging them to come at me. I saw Zach looking at me, pleading me to run while the brown wolves slowly stalked towards me. I sent a flying kiss to Zach assuringly and then gave the three stupid wolves my full attention. My wolf wanted out so I charged and shifted mid air. They stopped in their tracks seeing my wolf and their faces showed fear. I guess they had never seen a blue furred wolf.

Coming back to their senses, they circled me, snarling at me and showing off their long fangs. I sent them a wolfish grin and tempted them to make the first move. They attacked together and I was ready. I ran to the wolf on my left and as he charged towards me I dodged him and bit deep into his rear leg, flinging him to the wolf next to him, watching as they fell together. He gave out a loud whine and I left them whimpering there. The wolf that he fell on was trapped under his weight. As the other one came on to me, he tried reaching my neck but I scratched his muzzle and eye really deep and as he put his head down in pain, I jumped on him and bit his neck killing him instantly. Suddenly a black wolf hit my side and I fell a few metres away. A small whine escaped my lips because the impact hurt my back.

Quickly jumping on my feet, I looked around and saw most of the rogues lying dead and let out a sigh of relief, as I saw that Hayden was fine. He was fighting a cream coloured wolf but he had the upper hand. My eyes fell on Zach as he fought a blonde wolf and although he was injured he looked was fine. I turned back to my opponent and charged at him, power surging through me. He came at me and I waited for him to come a little more closer and that was when I jumped and landed right behind him. I bit his tail and head butted him on the side with great force. He flew back and hit a tree and laid there not moving. I looked back at Zach and saw him standing a few feet away looking at me in worry. I trotted toward him and made sure he was fine. I licked his shoulder until the wound was closed. I circled around him wanting to check he was ok. He did the same for and I saw him look at me with pride and admiration. He licked my muzzle and then rested his head on my shoulder. I felt calm feeling his warmth near me. My wolf was happy to know he was fine.

As we walked back to the pack house, Emma a young girl walked up to us. She bowed and then looked at Zach. “Alpha, we have two fatally injured wolves. Fortunately no one’s dead but the elders think that they won’t be able to survive.

"Take them quickly to the pack doctor. I will not let them die on my watch." He growled in anger. I could read his mind because he let me in and I could feel the pain and worry that was etched in his voice. My insides hurt seeing him in this state. I needed to ease his worry, and I knew that to do so his pack members should be fine. He really did care a lot about them.

"Zach, may I do something?" I asked him through our mind link. He turned to me questionably, nodding his head. ”Tell her to get the injured wolves to the clearing in front of the pack house." He wanted to ask me what I meant to do and I just nodded at him letting him know that I knew what I was doing. I saw Esme and mind linked with her.

"Esme meet me behind those trees and get me some clothes." She nodded and jogged to the house. I went to the trees and as she came with the clothes I thought of what I could do to help the injured. I shifted and changed into my clothes. Esme looked at me and smiled but her face looked very tired. I held her hand in mine, “Esme what’s wrong?”

“Hailey I am tired. I cured a mother who was hurt badly, so it took most of my energy. I am not witch who can heal grave wounds.” She whispered her eyes half closed. I hugged her, thanking her for her help. As we walked back I noticed everyone was standing in front of the pack house and also the injured were being guided to the clearing.

“Hailey, do you think you can cure them. It’s your first time. Don’t you think you shouldn’t risk your health?” Esme said looking at the wolves and their injuries. I squeezed her shoulder. “I can try. After all they are my people.” I grinned letting her know it was okay. But inside I was scared, thinking I may not succeed in helping them. I took a deep breath and walked feeling more confident with every step. Something told me that I could do this.

“Hailey are you ok?” Zach came up to me wearing faded jeans that hung dangerously low on his hips with no shirt. My mouth watered and my wolf purred. He grinned smelling my arousal hit him. “Well I’ll take that as a yes.” He smirked. I scoffed trying to hide the blush. I noticed the wound on his shoulder was healing nicely but seeing him hurt made me upset. “Hey don’t worry. It doesn’t hurt so much.” He smiled squeezing my hand.

I turned to the two warriors. One was a beautiful white wolf with black paws. The blood on his white fur glowed bright. His eyes were closed and only his ragged breathing told me he was alive. I knelt down and placed my hand on his wound, which was a cut that was too deep to be cured by werewolf healing.

He opened his green eyes when I touched his wound, whimpering in pain. I smiled and assured him, “Hey don’t worry. I’m here to help. Just stay calm.” I then closed my eyes and connected with my surrounding, feeling the energy present there. I made my mind to fill with the image of healing his wound. I imagined the blood retrace back into his wound and the torn flesh to repair itself. I thought of the skin and fur slowly filling up the body cavity. I bunched my eyebrows putting all my energy and the energy around me into my imagination. I suddenly felt heat under my palm which was on his wound. It stayed there for some time and once it went away, I opened my eyes and saw that the wound was closed leaving just a small scar. The wolf’s eyes were closed but hearing his steady breath I knew he just fainted in shock.

My body felt numb and tried. The exhaustion hit me in waves but I used my wolf’s strength and got up knowing that there was one more to heal. I steadied my heart and looked around me, noticing that everyone, including Zach was looking at me in awe. Their eyes held wonder and confusion. Well I guess they didn’t fully understand that I was a witch too. Well I’ll have keep that conversation for some time later. I looked at Zach and his eyes held so much pride and love, I sent him a small smile but he must have seen my face, knowing something was wrong because his face suddenly showed worry. I shook my head at him and then walked to other wolf.

This one was grey and quite small in size. I saw it carefully and knew this was a she-wolf. Her wound was on the left shoulder very close to her neck. Any closer she would have been dead. The wound was a huge bite that ran deep exposing her collar bone. She had lost consciousness and was very still but the rhythm of her chest said otherwise. I knelt down beside her, admiring her delicate muzzle and running my fingers through her fur. She looked so young and beautiful. This was just not fair for someone her age. I placed both my palms on her shoulder, and did the same as before. I connected with the earth and urged that power to flow through me. I suddenly felt my power slip away but I couldn’t let her go, she had so much to live for. I forced myself and connected with my wolf, opening my eyes, letting her come out a little and then used her power. I put my soul into healing the wound. After what seemed like few minutes I felt the familiar heat on my palms and knew it was working. I pushed one last time willing myself to heal her completely. The heat faded away, as I felt a black curtain fall over my eyes and then all I saw was darkness.

Zach POV

I watched Hailey as she put her hands on the little she wolf’s shoulder. Something was not right she looked sick and weak to me. But her eyes told me she knew what she was doing. As she closed her eyes, I saw her scrunch up her eyebrows in pain making me want to run there and stop it. Suddenly her eyes opened and her fangs extended out as she looked up, pressing down on the wound. Her skin suddenly glowed with a familiar white light but only this time it was much brighter, it looked divine. I saw the wound below her palms slowly close as it did in the other wolf. My mind was blown away, as I had never witnessed something so amazing and impossible. She saved two wolves who I had not expected to survive. My wolf howled in pride seeing his mate, his Luna so beautiful and strong.

Everyone gasped as I saw her collapse near the little wolf. I sprinted towards her pushing everyone aside wanting to reach my mate. I growled and everyone obediently backed away. My heart stopped when I saw her pale face, eyes closed she look sick as beads of sweat formed on her forehead. The little wolf’s wound was fully healed but I didn’t know what happened to Hailey. I held her in my arms shaking her face, desperately trying to wake her up.

“Zach it’s aright. She’s just very tired. Healing took a toll on her after all it’s her first time. She knew the risk.” I looked back at her face. She did this even after she knew this would hurt her so much. Why? Why would she risk her health? It was such a stupid idea. She really was a mysterious girl and I had never been so in love with someone before.

“Hayden, take them to the infirmary and let them rest. ” I ordered pointing at the two wolves. “And also send out a large patrol around the territory to check if there are any more rogues. Craig dispose off the bodies and make sure everyone is safely in the house.” They nodded and left to do needful. Then I swiftly carried Hailey in my arms and walked backed into the pack house. I took her to our room and placed her gently on the bed. I slid next to her, letting her head rest on my chest. Tucking a strand away from her cheek, I stared at her beautiful face which was getting back a little colour. Her breathing was steady so I knew she was fine. I glanced at her body, satisfied that she wasn’t hurt bad. I also felt my wound healing slowly and it didn’t pain much so I closed my eyes listening to the slow, calming beat of her heart as exhaustion took over me.
