Midnight Luna

Chapter Chapter Forty Two

Hailey’s POV

There were grunts, screams and growls in the air. Red adorned the ground as we attacked and tried to kill Logan’s army. The enemy was very strong and they killed mercilessly. I saw many of my pack warriors fall to the ground, pain and agony filled my heart. They were my pack members and they didn’t deserve to die like this. I looked around searching for Zach; he was a few meters away from me, fighting a white wolf and a tall vampire. His black fur shined in the full moon light. The vampire was desperately trying to pin him down and stick his teeth in him. I wasn’t surprised to know they were on Logan’s side. They were vile creatures. Liam was wrestling a black wolf and I was relieved to see he had the upper hand. Nate and Ethan were fighting some vampires and Tyler and Kevin were dodging some wolves. My wolf wanted out but I needed to be in my human form so as to channel both my wolf and witch energy. I brought her to the surface and felt the color of my eyes change.

I saw Hayden fighting a wolf. He was quick in striking the mutt down. “Hayden.” I called him. He turned his muzzle to me and nodded in question. “Take twenty wolves into the castle. Search the place for prisoners. If I am not wrong he has many of them trapped in the dungeons’.” I told him. He nodded and sprinted to the castle. I saw many wolves follow him. As they disappeared in there I turned to face the chaos in front of me. The night sky was only lit by the moon; its light filled me with tranquility.

A vampire came up to me, clicking his fangs to intimidate me. His black shirt was drenched in blood that wasn’t his. I growled at him as he ran towards me. I quickly glanced around to make sure no one was trying to attack me from behind. He tackled me to ground and dug his nails into my forearm. Pain shot through my arm but I gritted my teeth and punched him right in the face. His fists connected with my abdomen and I fell to the side in pain. He got up and was about to finish me when I stared at his neck, imaging it twisted to the left. Next second he fell to the ground, dead. I lifted myself up and smiled in triumph.

"Now we fight witch style.” I told my wolf, and she grunted in response. I ran towards a group of vampires fighting two of my pack members. While they got closer, I willed the ground between their feet to separate, creating a wide crack on the surface. I watched as they lost their step and fell in the dark abyss. They noticed me and charged at me. I lifted myself in the air, forming a huge ball of fire in my palms and flung it towards them. The ball hit and consumed them in seconds, their screams felt like sweet music to my ears. I sensed some wolves creep up behind me and so I somersaulted and kicked one of them in the side, biting deep into his neck.

As I was fighting two wolves, I saw from the corner of my eye, Logan was slowly getting away and running towards the shore. I quickly twisted the wolf’s neck and picked his body, throwing it at the other. I was about to follow Logan when ten wolves and vampires circled around me. “You will never reach him.” A black haired vampire girl hissed at me. “And who’s going to stop me? You?” I scoffed, studying them and coming up with a plan. They were too many to fight at once. I raised my arms and lifted myself off the ground. They gazed at me in wonder and confusion. I looked up and saw the full moon above me. I knew she was watching all this from up there and that thought sent a new confidence surging through my body. ”Mother, be with me." I prayed.

Closing my eyes, I commanded the wind to surround me. When I felt the whooshing sounds of the air, I imagined it to catch fire and swirl around, the raging fire blaring in triumph. I opened my eyes and saw a tornado of orange flames, about five feet tall form near me. With a flick of my finger I sent it shooting towards the vampires. It split in mid air and like blazing arrows hit them and incinerated them. The fire burnt their corpses to ashes and I grinned in victory. One wolf ran and jump towards me in mid air. Glaring at him in anger, I connected to the dense forest behind and soon felt the roots cut through the ground and wrap around his legs. As he struggled to free himself, a root snaked around his neck, and when I nodded it chocked him, shutting his air supply.

Fear was evident in their eyes. The wolves fighting around us stopped and stared at me, contemplating the risk of fighting further. My vision fell on Zach whose muzzle was facing me, eyes filled with pride. I searched him and saw he had no injuries. I sent him a smile and I saw him return it with a wolfish grin. Suddenly I heard a bang and raised my head to the shore. A group of witches came out from the forests and from the looks of them I knew they were his dark minions. Logan walked behind them with a satisfied smile. My blood boiled watching him stand there, enjoying the destruction around.

"Hailey. These witches are very strong and their magic is dark. Be careful, because no matter what we do, they can kill all of us.” Hena’s voice entered my mind. Worry filled me as I watched them kill many my pack members with one look and my heart squeezed in uncertainty. I looked at the surrounding forest and connected with every tree in there. I pushed my wolf out a little more and felt my fangs cut through my gums. After making sure I had connected with each one of them, I growled with all my strength and forced every branch and root, to trap them and stop them from advancing to my people. I saw the witches being strangled by the roots and I gritted my teeth, trying to squeeze the life out of them. I counted there were twelve witches, as they struggled to free themselves.

Suddenly one of them waved their hands and I watched in disbelief the branches turned to black dust in a second and fell down. I felt my power reduce but I needed to stop them. They had gravely injured around twenty five wolves. Hena was facing them alone. I watched as she lifted her arms, and a gush of black smoke, wrapped around her. Her eyes turned blood red as she pushed her palms towards the herd of witches and that’s when the black smoke flew to the first three witches. I watched the smoke enter them through their nostrils and skin, as they tried desperately to fight it. These three witches fell to the ground, their skin tuning grayish in color and wrinkles forming on their face. Within minutes their entire body tuned into this grayish color like a stone and then transformed into dust, floating away in the wind. I had never seen dark magic before so this was beyond shocking and scary.

I came down to the ground, running to aid her. There were still nine more to kill and they looked too strong to fight alone. I was nearing her but a stupid vampire blocked my way. My frustration rose and I growled at her. My claws extended and as she approached me I dug it in her neck, piercing the skin with ease and then pulled her close and bit into her, letting my venom poison her. She yelled in pain as I dropped her and left her their struggling to stay alive. Werewolf’s bite can cause them great amount of pain before killing them. And same goes for us. Vampire’s bite can kill us after a long time. The death was slow and painful.

I turned back to Hena but what I saw caused my eyes to blur with tears. Three witches had her suspended in mid air by some invisible power. A tall witch stood below her and was saying some sought of chant. From her finger tips I saw purplish black fumes come out and flowed to Hena. Her body shook as if it was in great pain and soundless screams escaped from her mouth. He face had become a sick pale white color. Just then a loud growl echoed and I saw Liam’s wolf race towards them. I watched in horror as he pounced on the tall witch and in a swift motion he bit her neck and separated it from her body. The witches that stood behind her lifted their arms towards him and he whimpered in pain as they tortured him. His cry for help filled the air as I saw the mental agony they put him through. His body shook as he brought his paws to his muzzle trying to shut out the pain. His eyes closed as he fell to the ground, blood slowly dripped from his mouth. I sprinted to him, and let out my wolf, changing mid way. My blue fur formed around me as my clothes tore to pieces.

Most of the enemy was dead. We had a lot of casualties but we were winning. I sent Zach a quick glance and saw he was standing over a vampire he had just killed. I looked up to the sky and let out loud howl, letting everyone there know that this was the end and I will not stop until Logan was dead. The witches saw me coming and lifted Liam’s limp body in the air, tossing him aside. Their focus on Hena shifted and I watched in fear as her body crashed to the ground beside Liam’s. Her eyes were shut and she was barely breathing. Even if I disliked she was important to my father and I couldn’t lose any more people who were close to my family. I watched in bewilderment as Liam stretched to hold her still body.

As I ran, I felt my paws dig into the soft mud, pushing myself faster. I slammed my body into the nearest witch, pushing her into a nearby tree. She hit her head and fell unconscious, blood trickled from a wound on her forehead. I turned and came face to face with seven angry faced women. They were beautiful with flowing blond hair. The black capes wrapped around their, body giving them a very cruel look. But it was their eyes that irked me; it was the color of death. Big pitch black orbs stared at me, with red veins popping out from behind, bloodshot and deadly. I looked at them as they slowly chanted something together in unison.

I felt the air around me become dense; I felt I was breathing in poison. My lungs burned as if they were torched with hot steam. I wheezed trying to fill it with fresh air but to no avail. They circled around me, chanting indistinctly. I fell on the ground coughing up blood. I didn’t know what they were doing but I could feel my energy leave my body. The familiar black smoke left their fingers and loomed near me. Fear engulfed me and I was terrified. I didn’t want to die, I wasn’t so brave. I couldn’t imagine not being with Zach, kissing him and sleeping with him. I had so little time with him. My fates were cruel and I knew it was inevitable. But I there was still a lot for me to do. I had to survive and give Logan and everyone behind this a taste of their own medicine. My eyes connected with his and a victorious smile spread on his face. That coward was just standing there letting them do his dirty work.

“Hailey.” I heard Zach yell. I saw him run towards me but two witches created an invisible wall around him, trapping him there, with no escape. Worry on his handsome face he looked at me and I tried to mange a smile. ”I love you Zach.” I said through my mind link. Dejected he fell to his knees, helplessly looking at me. He yelled to the rest to try and save me but the minute he did that, a witch turned and waved her hands around us and I watched in sadness when a thin translucent dome formed around us. A young wolf charged at us with the intention of breaking the wall but as soon as he touched it, purple and black smoke pulled him and turned him to dust. Everyone stepped back in fear. The war had ended leaving dead vampires and wolves decorating the blood covered ground. I forced my head up through the pain and I saw most of my pack was safe. Many were injured but they would live. That information made me a tad bit relived.

Through the pain I tried to focus on the only element I hadn’t used. The distant sounds of the ocean filled my ears and I knew we were very close to the shore. I tried to connect with the waters but the witch beside me understood my intention and kicked me in the gut. It hurt so much as a whimper escaped my mouth. A tear fell on the ground and I groaned, angry with myself for being so weak. I needed to fight back but the chanting and black smoke was eating me up from inside. I changed into my human form because my wolf was weak by the poison. The cold wind hit my bare skin and I shivered. My nakedness caused Logan to laugh. “Well I always wanted to see you naked, Hailey. And you are by far the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.” He said sitting on his toes. He brought his face in front of mine and touched my face, wiping my tears.

“Don’t touch her, you sick bastard.” Zach growled. He had shifted and was standing there, butt naked. But his face was covered with so much anger and rage. His fangs cut into his chin and claws scrapped the wall. Logan chuckled at him and purposely touched my body. His touched felt like a hot iron rod on my skin and I growled at him. Zach was getting wild and his growls filled the air. He had a murderous look on his face. I sent him a small smile, meeting his eyes. He stared at me and I saw his heart break into pieces. The helpless look in his eyes pinched my soul. I shook my head. ”It’s not your fault baby." I said and watched the tears fall on his cheek.

In that instant a huge ball of flames hit the dome from above. The flames spread over us, the transparent wall evaporated into nothing. Through my blurred vision, I saw Hayden standing there with a group of men and women around him. Some were old, some were young and they look frail and sick. They were all wearing dirty and soiled clothes but their faces exhibited resent and hate. I knew most of them were witches and some were werewolves. An old man stepped in front and pointed to Logan.

“You have played your part now it our turn.” He said and as soon he said that he looked up towards the sky. The rest of the witches and warlocks stood behind him and being mumbling something in a foreign language. In seconds huge balls of fire fell from the sky onto the witches. It didn’t fall anywhere else but on them. The sky lit up with a flashes of lighting. The lighting created various forms in the black sky and as the old man looked back at them, the lighting struck those seven witches. They yelled in pain and begged Logan for hep but all he did was slowly retreat. The fire and lighting burnt the witches, killing them in moments. The wolves pounced on Logan and trapped him under them. He struggled but no matter what he couldn’t free himself. The kicked him in the gut multiple times until he fell on the ground, clutching his gut in pain. He was a poor excuse for a wolf.

The wall around Zach disappeared and he ran to me. He skidded on his knees and knelt close to me. He wrapped his hands around my body, lifting my head towards his and placed a small kiss on my head.

“Are you ok, baby?” He said slowly. I nodded smiling at him. He bent down and captured my lips. I returned the favor by hungrily kissing him. I needed assurance and this was the only way he could give it to me and my wolf. She was still weak but she loved being in his arms again. We broke apart and I blushed at the spectators we had. “Umm Zach could u, umm cover me. I hate being naked in front of everyone.” I mumbled, shying away from their stares. He glared at the unmated wolves’ ogling my body. Growling at them he pulled a black cape lying on ground and threw it over my bare back. The cape was big so it covered me all the way. Hayden came up to us and handed a pair of shorts to Zach. He quickly got up and put them on, as the females watched his body shamelessly. Seriously they don’t understand he is taken? He chuckled at my expression and slowly pulled me to my feet.

Suddenly a manly scream filled the air. The wolf holding Logan down clutched his chest and fell to the ground, blood pouring from an open wound just above his heart. I followed the shocked stares and saw Lydia standing a little away, with her eyes trained on the dead wolf. She slowly faced me a guilty and sad look on her face. Colin stepped out from behind her with a huge gun in his hand. He aimed the gun at me and grinned.

“Thank you Lydia dear.” He said, his voice cut through the silence. He smiled when Logan got up and slowly limped towards them. “Did you miss me?” He asked him, as he reached them. Logan sent him an irritated glare that didn’t faze Colin. Logan met my eye and smiled. “I told you Hailey. This is way out of your hand.” He said and pulled the gun from Colin’s hand. “And for my plans to work you need to get out of the way.” He growled.

From then everything happened in slow motion. Logan pulled the trigger and the bang echoed around me. Screams and gasps followed it as I waited for the bullet to strike. But before I knew it, Zach pulled me into his arms and turned us around, his back facing Logan. I felt his body jerk with the impact and his hold slowly loosened around me. I held him as he fell to the ground, a small smile formed on his face. I opened my mouth but no sound came out. I knelt down beside him and lifted his head onto my lap. “Zach. Zach. Stay with me.” I whispered pushing his bangs away as he opened his eyes.

“Hailey. It’s ok. Don’t cry. I am glad I had you in my life.” He whispered. “Shhh Zach, don’t say anything. You’ll be just fine.” I cooed,my tears falling on his chest. “Hailey, I love you. I love so much. You know that right?” He asked through gasps. His breath was shallow and his voice hoarse. As my vision blurred, pain wrapped around my soul and felt it succumb to the agony. Everyone around me disappeared leaving just me and him there. The time in the diner entered my mind, his face shined as he sang. The love in his eyes was only for me. And just like that a black curtain fell over these memories leaving me empty and hollow.

“Hailey let go. We must take him home to the doctor.” Hayden’s voice filled my ear but I stayed still. I felt my hold on him loosen as they pulled him away and carried him towards the tunnel. I watched their blur forms slowly faded into the night. The pain in my soul intensified and the feeling burned my insides. I lifted my head and let out the scream that was caught in my throat. It pierced the silence around me, as I screamed the pain in my chest crushed my heart. The screams changed to low whimpers as the darkness settled behind my eyelids.

"Zach.” She whispered and then I felt nothing.
