Chapter 16 Get in the Car

Chapter 16 Get in the Car

"Oh isn't that Dr. Lang from Saint Mary Hospital?"

The driver, Toby, recognized Emma because he met her at the hospital. "Mr. Montgomery, do you want to give Dr. Lang a ride?"

In the back seat, William's thin lips tightened. After the green light lit up, he coldly withdrew his gaze and said, "No need."

Toby nodded and didn't dare say anything more. He immediately drove away.

The rain got heavier and the thunder cracked the dark gray sky. The rain was pouring down so hard that even the fastest rain wiper made it hard to see. William's brows furrowed more and more.

The car was too quiet. They could only hear the sound of heavy rain beating outside the window. When Toby was about to turn in another direction, another loud crack of thunder sounded. Suddenly William ordered, "Toby, turn back."

At the bus stop, Emma sighed when she saw that no uber or lyft were available within thirty minutes. She silently pulled out a handkerchief and wiped the rain on her neck.

Her clothes were soaked and they were cold on her body. In this damn weather, she might catch a cold by the time she arrives home.

As she was trembling from the cold, a black car arrived and stopped in front of her.

Emma was confused when the car window slowly rolled down, revealing a familiar face.

William Montgomery's cold eyes looked at her from the car window.

"Get in the car."

Emma was stunned. Maybe it was William's tone that was so authoritative, or maybe she was too cold, but she listened to William and got into the car.

As soon as she got into the car, William asked her, "Where do you live?"

"Ah?" Emma Lang finally realized this question.

There were two children at home. If William sees them...

"I live quite far away. I'd better get out of the car," Emma Lang said as she quickly pulled the door handle.

Unfortunately, the car got locked automatically the moment she got in. She couldn't open it.

Before she finished speaking, William had already ordered the driver, "Toby, to my penthouse."

After he gave the order, he looked at Emma Lang with a cold expression. "I don't mind bringing you back to my place."

Emma Lang's expression changed to a worried one. "No, let me get out of the car. I'll just get a cab home."

The car was already moving. Toby only listened to William, so nothing Emma said could make him change directions anyways.

Looking at William's cold face, Emma could only admit that she was unlucky.

Forget it. At worst, I'll get out of the car and get a taxi when I get to his residence, Emma Lang thought to herself.

She didn't notice that Toby was quietly examining her from the rearview mirror. For as long as he's been William's driver, he's never seen William bring back any woman to the penthouse. Not even Jennifer, his fiancee!

Half an hour later, the car arrived at the penthouse.

It was just as grand as she'd

imagined it would be. Floor to ceiling windows made the space look both modern and artistic. High ceilings with a huge chandelier that must've cost a fortune. The entire color scheme was cool, matching William's personality. Even Emma had to admit, William had good taste

in interior design.

Emma Lang stood at the door hesitantly, her eyes looking around the penthouse.

William Montgomery didn't even look at her and entered the house.

She couldn't leave even if she wanted to.

Once they entered the living area, a maid came over and poured tea for her. "Miss Lang, please have some hot tea."

"Thank you." Emma nodded.

William went upstairs, leaving Emma to sit alone in the living room.

The maid took out a set of clean clothes. "Miss Lang, here are some dry clothes."

"No need. I'll leave when the rain stops."

"The rain will not stop soon. I can dry your clothes for you quickly after you change. You will catch a cold when you wear wet clothes."

Emma hesitated a little when she saw the rain outside.

Wearing wet clothes was indeed making her feel very uncomfortable. In the end, she couldn't resist the maid's persuasion and went upstairs to change.

The maid only said that it was the

second-to-the-last room on the second floor and didn't say which end. Emma Lang thought it was no different. She knocked on the door and no one answered. She opened

the door and walked in with the clothes in her arms.

ית.

The bedroom was huge, but the decoration was concise. It was as if the room was still being staged for sale, and she couldn't see any personal items in the room. Even the bedsheets were pure white like those in a hotel.

Emma lowered her head and unbuttoned her shirt.

The door behind her suddenly opened.
