Chapter 3 The Duty a Wife Should Fulfill
Charlotte slept in the empty room alone the whole night.
It seemed that Kennedy had accepted her proposal-them being husband and wife on paper, but not getting involved with each other's life.
Then, Charlotte got dressed and went downstairs, where a group of servants was busy working.
She was just about to step forward to ask them where the kitchen was when a broom suddenly appeared under her feet. With that, Charlotte staggered, and she immediately fell forward uncontrollably.
"Ah!"
Just as she was about to fall down to the ground, a pair of strong hands helped her up in time.
Still in shock from the fall, Charlotte looked up, thereupon her eyes met a pair of gentle eyes.
"Are you alright, sister-in-law?"
"Sister-in-law?"
"I am Kennedy's elder brother. My name is Manfred," Manfred Moore said softly.
Before Charlotte could answer, a cold voice could be heard: "It seems like I've arrived at the wrong timing."
This voice...
Charlotte looked over to the source of the voice to see Nathan pushing Kennedy over; the latter was sitting in a wheelchair with a thin blanket covering his legs.
Although he was sitting in a wheelchair, he still looked like a proud king.
His eyes were cold, and his gaze fell sharply on Charlotte's face like a blade.
Meeting his icy stare, Charlotte couldn't help but shiver.
Only then did she realize that she was still in Manfred Moore's arms. Immediately, she quickly took two steps backward to keep a distance from him before lowering her head guiltily.
"Kennedy, it's rare to see you at home." Manfred Moore smiled at his younger brother.
However, Kennedy treated him with a different attitude; he merely nodded slightly without any expression on his face: "Manfred."
"Alright then, I'll be on my way for now."With that, Manfred Moore looked at Charlotte and said gently, "Sister-in-law, I have to go to the company now, so I'll be leaving first."
Hearing this, Charlotte nodded blankly and watched as Manfred Moore left. Just as she was about to withdraw her gaze, she heard Kennedy mocking her, "Are all divorced women this desperate? You just can't wait to seduce men, can you?"
Hearing this, Charlotte suddenly came back to her senses. "What did you say?"
Kennedy's eyes were pitch-black, and there were dark shadows under his eyes. Charlotte could feel his hostility toward her.
Charlotte bit her lower lips before saying, "I'm not as nasty as you think."
"Really?" Kennedy had a sarcastic smile on the corners of his lips. After all, he looked down on women like her the most, "How can you say that a woman who got remarried right after her divorce isn't nasty?" Charlotte clenched her fists, anger welling up in her.
Was she the one who wanted this? She was also forced to marry him.
Kennedy: "You better keep your promises and keep your distance from the Moore family. If I find out that you are doing despicable things outside under the name of the Moore family, or have any bad intentions toward my family, I'll make you suffer."
Kennedy: "Nathan."
With that, Nathan wheeled Kennedy away.
After they left, a maid came over and said to her, "Second Young Lady, the Old Master wants to see you."
Old Master? Is he Kennedy's grandfather Mr. Reynold? Charlotte suddenly became nervous.
Her mother said before that none of the Moore family had seen Christina before, which was why they married her off instead of Christina.
But now that I'm going to meet the Old Master, will I be exposed?
Thinking of this, Charlotte followed behind the maid nervously.
"Second Young Lady, please enter." The maid had a very reverent attitude. With that, Charlotte thanked her and walked into the study room cautiously.
The study room was adorned with classical decorations and bookshelves, just like what she had imagined. There were all kinds of pens, ink calligraphies, and paintings on the shelves, making the room look solemn.
Charlotte only took a brief look at her surroundings before immediately retracting her gaze to look at the person in the room. "H-Hello, Old Master."
Then, Charlotte's eyes met the shrewd gaze of the Old Master of the Moore family.
At this moment, he was giving her a once-over.
At the thought of her identity, Charlotte suddenly became nervous and lowered her eyes at a loss, for fear that Old Master Moore would see the guilty conscience in her eyes.
She had temporarily won over Kennedy, but what if Old Master Moore found out that she was not Christina?
"Christina."
"Huh?" Charlotte raised her head reflexively, and then quickly lowered her head after meeting the Old Master's gaze.
Mr. Reynold's eyes were sharp, and he spoke with a serious tone:"Kennedy has been in poor health since he was a child. Since you have married him, you should take good care of him in the future. I don't have to teach you your responsibilities as a wife, do I?"
"I understand."
"From tomorrow onward, you will work with Kennedy as his assistant."
Hearing that, Charlotte raised her eyes in surprise, "But-"
"It's been decided. You'll go with Kennedy when he goes to work tomorrow and stay by his side!"
Charlotte was not given a chance to refuse at all. Old Master Moore had directly made the decision and waved his hand, signaling her to leave.
Although Charlotte was reluctant, in order to avoid causing unnecessary disputes or exposing her true identity, she decided to quit her original job and followed the Old Master Moore's arrangement. The next day, Old Master Moore immediately asked Kennedy to bring her to the company.
"I know the reason why you're not willing to hire an assistant, but since Christina is already your wife, let her be by your side to take care of you."
Charlotte was curious because the tone Old Master Moore spoke to Kennedy was the same as when he was talking to her. What's going on?
She thought they should be close to each other since they're a family.
Just when she was deep in her thoughts, Charlotte felt an intense glare on her face, and she immediately knew who it was.
Kennedy looked at her sarcastically and said, "Sure."
Charlotte was a little surprised because she thought he would refuse.
"Well, go ahead." Reynold's facial expression had softened a little.
Kennedy sat on the wheelchair expressionless while Nathan nodded and said, "Old Master Moore, then we'll go to the company first."
Charlotte had no choice but to follow Kennedy from behind.
When they were in the garden, Kennedy sneered, "You've established such a good relationship with Old Master Moore so quickly! You want to keep an eye on me, don't you?"
Charlotte was stunned, and she frowned. "I don't understand what you are talking about."
"Hmph!" Kennedy sneered. "It's better for you not to understand what I meant. Otherwise..."
