Chapter 2995 Did You Make a Deal in Private
When Matthew informed everyone about the plan to relocate their base to Basha's Sacred Mount, everyone was surprised.
Basha's Sacred Mount? That's the Holy Land for martial arts practitioners! Moreover, rumor has it that the grandmasters atop the Sacred Mount could easily outnumber a small nation. Though not vast in size, their power was terrifying. It was just that they rarely involved themselves in worldly affairs. However, because of their unpleasant past experiences, Sasha and Leanna were displeased when they heard about this plan. Leanna managed to conceal her feelings, but Sasha's face darkened completely. The scene of the wedding was still vivid in her mind. Returning there now stirred some reluctance within her. After the forced wedding, who could guarantee it wouldn't happen again?
Needless to say, Matthew understood their thoughts. However, just as he was about to explain, the crown prince suddenly interjected, "Wow, our Martial League headquarters is actually built on Basha's Sacred Mount? That's seriously impressive! Matthew, do you really think they'd let us move into such a prestigious place? Did you perhaps strike some shady deal with the Lord of the Sacred Mount?" With a mischievous grin, he leaned in close to Matthew as he spoke, suspicion gleaming in his eyes.
His words were like throwing a match into gasoline, instantly dampening the mood in the entire hall.
Sasha's face darkened even further in an instant.
Internally cursing the crown prince as a liability, Matthew snapped, "Why, do you have nothing to do? Have you finished compiling the list of assassins like I asked?"
Naturally, the crown prince could sense the underlying anger in Matthew's words. He scratched his head in confusion. "Yeah, it's all sorted out!" Being an insensitive guy, he could never quite grasp these relationship matters.
"If it's all sorted out, then handwrite 50 copies of it!"
"Huh? Why?"
"Just do the copying yourself as I say!"
The crown prince wanted to get to the bottom of this, but seeing the anger on Matthew's face, he reluctantly left to start copying the list.
After he left, Matthew took a deep breath, plastering a smile back on his face. "There's no other way. Zedbar has already sent out mercenaries and assassin organizations. They may not dare to touch me, but they've shifted their focus to you guys. If you're not on board with this plan, for your safety, I'll have to send you back to Cathay."
Matthew wasn't threatening them; he was just stating the facts.
After a moment's contemplation, Leanna spoke up. "What if we tighten the security in the entire Concordia? Everyone entering Seraphis will undergo thorough scrutiny."
Matthew shook his head. "Nope. Let's not even talk about how big of a workload it is. These people make a living by killing people, so it's easy for them to slip past surveillance like they did yesterday."
Before this, Matthew had already
combed through Concordia once, yet they still managed to sneak up on Leanna Unlike the city of Raischester, Concordia wasn't fortified with walls all around, making it way too easy for anyone to sneak in. Furthermore, those desperados were capable of anything for the sake of a hefty bounty.
Evidently, the idea of surveillance was not going to work.
Finally, Leanna said, "Well, if that's the case, our only option is to head to Basha's Sacred Mount. Not only will it ensure our safety, but it'll also put a stop to the losses on the construction project at Thorneville. By then, Thorneville can serve as our smoke screen."
After she finished speaking, Matthew glanced at her with gratitude. It was obvious that she was speaking for the benefit of Sasha.
Sasha furrowed her brow, pondering for a while. She wasn't afraid that Matthew would fall for Ivy and abandon her, but the forced wedding back on the Sacred Mount had left a scar in her heart.
Under the gaze of the group, she eventually nodded. "Then let's go."
