Madilynne

Chapter Emotional Warfare

Madilynne’s P.O.V

“Okay see you guys later then? Bye!” Turning away from the guys I quickly shifted and ran back to the packhouse. What the hell just happened?

Stopping to put my clothes on that I shifted out of earlier, I checked my phone.

Message Received 1:27 P.M: Madi Call me please. I.. Just call me please. - Kade

Groaning I shut my phone off.

At least I had time to get a nap in before patrol tonight, on the bright side.

Walking to my room I could hear Kole and Mason come through the front door.

“What the hell was that Kole?” Mason whisper yelled. I rolled my eyes, He couldn’t whisper to save his life.

“Shut up Mason, I don’t need to hear it from you of all people okay. I don’t even know what that was.” Kole grumbled out. Glad we’re on the same page.

Shutting the door I put my phone on the charger. Fighting the urge to text Kade back I decided to shower instead.

Starting the shower, I stood in front of the mirror as it began to fog.

I hated not seeing his mark on me anymore.

I hated missing him.

Closing my eyes I took in a few breaths. The ache and emptiness still sat in the place of my heart.

Opening my eyes, I walked into the shower. Letting the warm water cascade down my body.

Shutting off the water, I could hear a knock at my bedroom door.

“Be there in a sec!” I yelled out.

Stepping out of the shower, I wrapped the towel around myself. Opening my bedroom door, Kole paced in front of it. “Uh, you good?” I asked.

“Look, Madi, I just want to apologize for earlier. I don’t know what came over me but I really didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.” Kole rambled.

“Yup, was definitely awkward. So, we good now?” I asked, rocking back and forth on my heels.

“Yeah.” Kole said as he looked at me.

“Great, I’m going to nap now before I run patrol tonight.” Both of us stood there for a moment, not knowing what to do I started to shut my door.

I could hear his footsteps grow quieter down the hall, Gods why are guys so weird.

Laying down I turned my Phone on again.

DING.

DING.

DING.

Message Received 1:56 P.M : Look Madi, I’m not sure what I did wrong. But honestly, I miss hearing your voice. Please, just call me. -Kade

Message Received 2:00 P.M : Hey girl, Long time no chat. Miss you. - Avi

Message Received 2:07 P.M : I’m coming to North Dakota. I’ll see you soon. - Kade

Closing the messages, I decided to finally call him. After patrol tonight, that is. After setting an alarm for patrol I set my phone on the nightstand.

Rolling over, I shifted in the bed trying to find a comfortable position to lay in. God’s I can’t fall asleep. Guess it’ll be another all-nighter.

Rolling my eyes with a huff, I got up from the bed and walked over to my window. Opening the window, the warm breeze danced across my skin. This time of year was perfect.

A gasp was pulled from me, when I was suddenly pulled into the field I was in earlier. God’s another vision. This time it was dark out, the sky still lit up in some parts so the sun must have just set.

I could hear faint howls in the distance signaling a breach on one of the borders. Shifting, I ran in that direction. As I ran, I picked up a light scent, But this one was different.

Chasing after the scent, I could hear the familiar footfalls of my pack behind me. They must have caught the scent as well. Reaching the border I waited.

With the sounds of my pack growing closer behind me, and the wolf nearing my spot I sat and waited. Any moment now.

A wolf, smaller than I was, came through the brush.

Her fur was a deep auburn color, like a fire that burned through the night on a cold winter’s night. Her eyes, an emerald green, held knowledge of pain and suffering.

And then I was back in my room, gasping for air. Growling I cursed out for the vision not being of any use. When was this wolf coming? Why? Who is she? Lately, my visions were no longer whole, Just glimpses of what might come.

The alarm on my phone dinged, time for patrol.

Going to the kitchen I ignored Kole and Mason as I passed through, Grabbing a drink to go on my way out.

Shifting into my white wolf, I ran to meet with the other wolves patrolling this evening.

‘Madi, glad to have ya tonight. You’ll be running The South with Wes tonight. You know the drill.’ The lead enforcer spoke, Zak was a hard ass. But he did the job well. Nodding my head in agreement, Wes and I took off for the South border.

Arriving, Wes and I broke off in opposite directions. Both of us taking one end of the Border we were assigned. Running the length of the border, I couldn’t help but shiver. I could feel someone watching me.

Stopping, I peered past the border into the growing darkness. Spotting nothing, I continued my run.

Shaking out my fur, I linked with Wes. ‘Clear on my end, you?’

‘All good over here.’ Wes spoke back.

As my nerves started to settle a branch broke not too far from me. Weird, Wes didn’t mention he was on his way.

‘Wes, you’re supposed to remain on that side. Zak’s going to kill us if you break his orders.’ I chided through the link.

‘Uh, I’m right where I’m supposed to be. Is everything okay?’ I could hear the concern in his voice growing. Snarling I replied.

‘Get your ass over here, I’ve got something.’

With my back turned, facing the border as I snarled arms wrapped around me, throwing me to the ground knocking the air from my lungs.

‘Damnit Wes! Now isn’t the time for games.’ I snarled out as I got up, My eyes traveled up the person who assaulted me. Now knowing it wasn’t Wes or a threat, I shifted back.

“What the hell was that for. Seriously, I’m running patrol, I don’t have time for games right now.” Already annoyed, I wasn’t in the mood for this.
