Chapter Chapter Five
Terrence dropped the clothes on the porch of the lodge, that we had found after a hike of five or six hours. We couldn’t have travelled fast, as the girl would slide of my back otherwise.
He shook the fresh snow of his back and shifted back into his human form. His naked body didn’t bother me at all anymore, we had seen each other naked for plenty of times, and shame flew out the door a long time ago.
I waited for him to put his clothes back on, so he could carry the girl inside the lodge. He gently put her on the old bed, and wrapped the tattered blankets that were laying around, around her body.
And once I was shifted back, I had put some clothes on as well, and had grabbed some logs that were piled up next to the fireplace, to start a fire.
Terrence came sitting behind me, to warm me up quicker. I hadn’t asked him to do that and we weren’t lovers, but it was comfortable, so I let him. He threw the warm, winter-coats around us, and we watched the fire together.
We had fallen asleep on the pelts that were on the floor beneath us, and we got woken up by a wild female scream.
I quickly jumped up, and looked around to see if we were in danger. But all I saw was the girl, sweating like pig, squirming in her own thoughts, while having the worst nightmare. I touched her shoulders, and instantly she woke up with a feral look in her eyes. Her blackened irises were letting me know that her wolf had taken control, and when she swiped her nails over my face I cursed.
“Oh! I’m so sorry! I’m, I-I don’t know what came over me!” She stuttered once she realised who she hit in a reflex.
“Well if that is your way of thanking me, to get out of that hell hole, than sure, no problem at all!” I yelled to her, while holding my hand against my face.
I’ve had fought dozens of men, which I had never let me hit my face before, and yet here I sit, on the edge of an old bed, getting scratched by a little girl! Shit!
“What? Where are we?” She asked softly, while bending her knees in between her arms.
“Somewhere in the forest, to the north. I don’t know, exactly.” I said honestly.
“So, we aren’t close to that man who… you know?”
“No, and he can’t ever get to you anymore, I killed him.” I said plain.
She lunged forward, and instantly I thought that she was going to hit me again, but instead of reaching me with her fingernails, she hugged me tightly. This girl is going to be the death of me one day. If only that was possible.
I pushed her back and told her that it was enough. Hugs from strangers are not going easy on me. In fact, what Terrence did last night, sitting behind me and all, was strange for me. Terrence is the only one that can get so close to me. Baby steps please, I require, tiny, baby steps.
Somehow she understood me, and with a small smile she grabbed her knees back up again, and sat against the wall.
“We need to hunt, care to join me in finding a deer, or some hares?” I asked Terrence.
He just simply nodded and followed me outside. We took off our clothes, again, and shifted into our wolves. For the first time in forever, I could hunt on my own. I remembered the training my father had given me, and soon found a large hare.
Dakota took over and ate the hare, right there on the spot. She couldn’t control herself, as she had never eaten something so fresh and juicy before. Red fluid splattered the pristine white snow, leaving behind evidence of a small carnage. Soon, Terrence had found one himself as well, and when we had found three more, we took them back to the lodge.
The girl, whose name turned out to be Amy, shifted into her wolf, and ate a hare as well. The other two hares, were skinned and cooked above the fireplace. We also had taken a bunch of fresh snow inside, to melt and drink. And when we were sated, of our first ever, fresh meal, we started talking about everything and nothing.
I mainly listened, as Terrence and Amy did most of the talking. Amy got a bit frightened from hearing that Terrence killed his own mate, but didn’t dare to ask about it any further. Then Terrence told my little story, because I didn’t care to elaborate about my past.
“So how about you, how come you aren’t home with your family?” Terrence asked Amy.
“Family, right. I don’t have a family anymore, as my father killed my sister from having sex, before finding her true mate. So, I can’t go back, now that I’m no longer a virgin anymore either.” She said, while leaning her chin on her knees.
So, here we are, a bunch of misfits. Three rogues, not suitable to have a mate, all of us abused, raped and tortured. What a joy.
“Why don’t we start our own pack?” Amy suddenly asked with a smile on her face.
“And what? Call it, Fluffy Bunny Power?” I said scoffing.
Amy looked at me with a perplexed expression but then burst out in laughs. She asked me how I came up with that name, and couldn’t control herself. Even Terrence had put up a smile on his face.
“No, maybe not that name, but all we need is an Alpha, to drink a drop of blood from.” Amy said.
“Oh, don’t look at me, she is the Alpha here.” Terrence said, while pointing to me.
“Yes I know she is the Alpha, I can smell that from miles away, I was just wondering if you wanted to pledge yourself to her too. Because you are clearly going to be her Beta.” Amy stated.
Terrence switched his gaze to me, and back to Amy again. Were they really thinking about starting a pack, with just the three of us? And me as their Alpha? Where has this world gone off to?!
Terrence is strong, and he is the only one that will ever understand me. We have been together for seven years now, and I have trained him to become stronger than the status in his old pack allowed him to be. I began to trust him with my life, he could be my Beta.
“Just accept it, yesterday we made another Alpha pee all over his legs, we are stronger than you give yourself credit for. We can do this.” Dakota said.
“Yes, what about that? How come we don’t know that we are an Alpha?”
“Maybe because we were never trained to be one, that it only came forward when you used your Alpha command on Milos. Besides that, our father is a Beta, so I never thought of it either.” Dakota replied.
Yes, she is probably right, it doesn’t explain though were we did get the Alpha genes from. But that was something to find out later.
“Right, so how do we do this?” I asked them.
Amy took a crude knife that was laying around in one of the cabinets, and without thinking, she cut the palm of my hand, squeezed my fist, and let the blood drop in a small bowl. I didn’t care about the pain, but still I was stunned by the action she just did, without even asking me.
Then she handed the bowl to Terrence, and for a second he hesitated, but took a sip of my blood nonetheless. Then Amy took the bowl from him and drank a bit of the blood as well.
My head started tingling, and I could feel new connections being made, as if new strings were being tied together, forming a network in my mind.
“Alpha, trespassers spotted at the south borders!” Amy shouted in my head.
“Goddess sake Amy! Do that again and I make you instantly a rogue once more!” I shouted at her, while holding my head in my hands.
“Sorry, I just always wanted to do that once, Alpha… What is your name actually?” Amy asked me.
I haven’t said my name in quite some time, I’m not even sure that Terrence knows it. Even I had to think for a second, before it popped up again.
“Emerson.” I said.
“Hmm. Okay, Alpha Emerson, Beta Terrence. Nice to meet you.” Amy said gloating.
And so, a new nameless pack has been formed.
