Chapter 25: She Is Here

Chapter twenty-five: She Is Here

Bernard

“That won’t be necessary, Helen. Liam can take care of me and I am already getting better, you don’t

need to trouble yourself by coming to see me.” She tucked a piece of her blonde hair behind her ears in

an attempt to flirt but all it did was just make me cringe.

Looking at Helen, I didn’t understand how I could feel conflicted between her and Elena. The two were

nothing alike which was a good thing. Everything about Helen made sense on paper only but in my heart, there was no fiery attraction like the way it was with Elena. There was no need to reach out and touch her face because there is no pull.

Elena ruined other women for me completely. There could be no one else but her for me and it only took my almost dying and her escaping for me to realize it. But now, with Helen sitting beside me, I knew by now she must have known about Elena and the thought of this terrified me. If she found out about Helen before I had a chance to tell her my side of the story, I couldn lose her again.

“I need to go and take care of things.” I said as I attempted to get out of the bed but she pushed me

back.

“Are you crazy?” Her purple eyes stared into mine.

“You are in no condition to walk, whatever you need to be handled, I am sure that Nicholas can take care of it. You need to rest.” She said to me, although I hated to admit it, she was right. I was in no condition to go and find Elena but I needed to know that she is still within my territory. I couldn’t risk her leaving again while I was in this condition.

Liam, I need you to make sure that Elena doesn’t leave the Pack. I need her not too far from the hospital while I am stuck here.’ I sent a link message to Liam.

I got it and I promise she won’t leave the Pack.’ He linked me back and I was a bit relieved.

My wolf needed to hurry up and heal me. I needed to talk to my mate before it was too late.

Elena Pov.

I was staring at the direction of the hospital from my room. He was in there and I was out here. Liam told me to go back to Bernard’s mansion but I didn’t want to go anywhere. I wanted to be as close to him as possible. I knew my closeness would help him heal but I couldn’t explain that to Liam without revealing the truth about him and I. After much back and forth, I conceded and did as I was told. I

needed Bernard more and I hadn’t even been allowed to see him as I was leaving the hospital.

I was going stir crazy in this room. I felt helpless and useless. Not to mention that, only a few short hours ago, I told Alisha everything.

Did I regret telling her? No, I didn’t regret it. In fact, it felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders after I spoke the words out loud. Now, at least one person other than Bernard would understand my behavior.

“I should be there by his side, his wolf needs me. I can literally feel him calling out to me.” I muttered to myself

“It will do you no good worrying, what you need to do right now is just hope and pray to the moon goddess unless you plan on walking into the hospital and telling Liam that you are his mate, you know he won’t let you see him otherwise. It is a protocol, when an Alpha is in the hospital, only his family and high ranking personnel are allowed to see him.” I ran a frustrated hand through my hair. I was caught between a rock and a hard place.

Technically, I am a high ranking of this Pack because I am his mate and that means I am technically the Luna of this Pack. I basically outranked every other member of this Pack apart from Bernard himself but I couldn’t tell anyone that because then I would risk being exposed and he would be put in an awkward position. But he still had Helen, the daughter of an Alpha from the neighborhood Pack. I was only thankful that she wasn’t here right now because she would only complicate the situation even more. I knew she was coming over in a few days so had only a few days to have Bernard to myself.

If I had only that little time then, I needed to spend them as close to him as possible not stuck in this room away from him. The rain had stopped and now it was just a gentle drizzle and the night had not gone far yet. Had everything worked out, I would have been far out of the territory and on my way to finding and starting a new life. I would have been miles away from him which at the moment seemed like the worst thing imaginable. I denied our bond for so long, I fought against it hoping that I was making the right decision for both of us. But now, I felt like I couldn’t have been more wrong.

My place was by his side where the moon goddess destined it to be. I thought logic would win out over fate but I was wrong. There were still so many things up in the air for me and one of them is Alpha Richard. He is out there somewhere looking for me and hunting me for some unknown reason. But, if

what happened this night has taught me anything, it was that I am safe in Bernard’s lands. If those wolves were working for Richard which I am sure they were then, they would be waiting for me. Alpha

Richard was not a man who gave up easily. When he set his sight on something, he followed through

with whatever he had to dб.

I am going to stay in Bernard’s Pack, then maybe it was worth seeing how far the bond would go. I knew Helen was still very much a factor but I had a few days before her arrival to sort through everything with Bernard. Maybe our future didn’t seem so bleak. I knew he cared for me because for him to come

looking for me tonight was proof of that. I just didn’t know if he was as willing as I was to see where our

connection could take us or not

Mates had rejected each other before, although it was rare but it did happen and when it did, it was one of the most excruciating experiences that the rejected mate could go through.

“Elena!” Alisha’s voice brought me back to reality and snapped my neck in her direction. Her eyes held concern as he stared at me.

“What?” I asked.

“I called you about six times, where is your head?” She muttered and I shook my head.

“Somewhere far, far away from here.” I responded.

All I could think about at the moment is Bernard, nothing else mattered but him.

“I want to tell you something a while ago but you were not in a good condition and it didn’t seem like the right time and now that I think about it, it also doesn’t seem like the right time either.” She babbled.

“Alisha, just tell me what you wanted to say.” I said to her.

“I don’t think you are going to like what I have to say.” I felt my heart thub in my chest.

“What?”

“Helen is here.” She responded and her voice came out so meek, I almost didn’t hear her but then her words registered.

Helen is here, for all intents and purposes, she is Bernard’s chosen mate.
