Lucky Me I’m Divorced by Modesty Brook Chapter 3
Chapter 3 Things She Has To Do Herself
On the way home, Tom didn’t say anything, just silently wiped his tears.
He didn’t dare to ask how Aurora had been these past three years.
Aurora saw the expression on Tom’s face but thought that since she had left home on a whim, she had no right to complain to her family.
She thought even if she did, it would only worry those who cared about her.
It wasn’t until she saw the familiar iron gate that she took a deep breath and then exhaled heavily.
Tom knew Aurora was suffering. He got out of the car silently. Aurora, with complex emotions, finally got out of the car after struggling for a long time.
Aurora shouted, “Grandpa, Jaxon, Caleb, Joey, I’m back!”
She walked into the house, trying to maintain a smile. She hoped everything was still the same as it was three years ago.
Patrick Hansen, Aurora’s grandfather, and Joey Hansen, Jaxon Hansen, Caleb Hansen, Aurora’s three brothers, who had been anxiously waiting at home, were overwhelmed with excitement.
“Rara!”
“Rara!”
“It’s really you!
“Cynthia said you just called her, but we didn’t believe it. Unexpectedly, you…” Patrick said.
Patrick, seeing Aurora, couldn’t wait any longer and excitedly walked towards her with his cane.
However, her three brothers, Jaxon, Caleb, and Joey, had already gathered around her before she could act.
“Aurora, you’re too impulsive,” her eldest brother, Jaxon Hansen, complained first. “How could you just leave like that without even telling us?”
Though her second brother, Caleb Hansen, was usually quiet, he doted on her the most. Seeing her now, Caleb directly said, “Aurora, I’ll definitely make Roland pay for what he did.”
Her third brother, Joey Hansen, laughed heartily, tears brimming in his eyes as he hugged Aurora tightly, reluctant to let go. “I’m glad you’re back. Caleb, can you not talk about that now? Isn’t it great she’s back?”
Among her three brothers, Joey was the most thoughtful and gentle.
Jaxon and Caleb often teased Joey for his mild nature.
But now, it was the considerate Joey who touched Aurora the most.
Aurora said, “I’m sorry, Jaxon, Caleb, Joey, I…”
Aurora also shed tears, overwhelmed with excitement at reuniting with her family.
“Humph, still remember to come back!”
Patrick, unable to join them, silently wiped away his tears and sat back on the sofa, waiting for Aurora to coax him.
Aurora said, “Grandpa. I rushed back just because I missed you!”
Aurora winked at her brothers and sat next to Patrick, clinging to his arm.
Then, Patrick’s stern face softened. He pressed his lips and tenderly stroked Aurora’s cheek with his wrinkled hand.
Patrick said, “My dear, listen to your brothers from now on. Don’t get involved in things that aren’t worth it for people who don’t deserve it. I’ll let it slide this time, but I am worrying about what will happen if you act like this next time. I might not get another chance to see you…”
Patrick was visibly upset, keeping sighing with reddened eyes.
Aurora, who was usually strong, felt a surge of sadness upon seeing Patrick, a man who had commanded respect in the business world for decades, shedding tears because of her. She silently vowed never to leave her family again.
“Now that Aurora’s back, why not let her take over some of our overseas businesses?” Jaxon suddenly suggested. “She’s done well these years.”
Caleb nodded in agreement.
“That’s right,” Joey said with a smile. “The overseas company we’re talking about has a fixed profit. She can manage it without any pressure.”
Aurora knew their real intention wasn’t for her to take over the overseas company. They just wanted her to stay away from Roland.
But she wasn’t someone without skills or capabilities. There were things she had to do herself.
Before Patrick could give his final approval, Aurora’s gaze became resolute, showing no sign of weakness.
She said, “Grandpa, Jaxon, Caleb, Joey, now that I’m back, I don’t plan on living under your protection. I’m a member of this family too, and I won’t shy away from my responsibilities and duties.”
After pondering, Aurora added, “I remember the Hansen Group acquired a company a few years ago. This subsidiary is now on the verge of bankruptcy due to poor management. How about letting me handle that company?”
Jaxon, Caleb, Joey, and Patrick exchanged looks.
They could see the determination in Aurora’s eyes and, as her family, naturally wouldn’t oppose her decision.
Meanwhile, the news of Aurora, the Hansen family’s youngest lady, returning after a three-year disappearance was quickly spread by those ill-disposed people.
Given the Hansen family’s stature in Venterra, the financial news outlets were soon to report the event.
“Recently, the youngest lady of the Hansen family, one of Venterra’s top three wealthiest families, has suddenly returned after being missing for three years. This startling news, confirmed by eyewitnesses, has stirred the whole of Venterra…”
At Duncan Villa, Ruby was watching TV, peeling an orange, and teasingly said, “Roland, if you could marry a noblewoman like the Hansen family’s youngest lady, your career and life would really be smooth with her help.
“Aurora is nothing compared to this lady of Venterra’s richest family!”
Roland spent the last night on a stressful prenatal examination with Jessica who kept kicking up a fuss from start to finish. He got very bad-tempered now.
Hearing Aurora’s name only fueled his irritation, and he couldn’t help but snap.
“Enough, Mom. Can’t you just be quiet for a bit? I have nothing to do with Aurora anymore. Can’t you stop talking about her?” his expression souring as he headed upstairs after he said.
However, he soon found himself walking into Aurora’s bedroom, where her belongings were still there, making him remember their time together…
“Someone, come here!” Roland suddenly felt very angry, shouting to summon a maid. He yelled furiously, “What are these? Aurora has left. Why keep these things? Are you waiting for me to clean them up?”
Roland raised his hand, about to slap the maid.
Just then, Stacy Duncan, Roland’s sister, walked out of her room. When she saw Roland lose his temper in Aurora’s room, she was overjoyed. “Roland, have you finally thought that through and decided to take Jessica over here?”
Roland hesitated. “I…”
For some reason, he felt torn, particularly unwilling to bring Jessica to his house.
It seemed like Aurora’s scent still lingered in the room, further souring Roland’s mood.
He said, “We’ll talk about it later!”
Before leaving, he made it clear that he no longer wanted to see anything belonging to Aurora there.
Ruby, hearing Roland’s words, popped an orange segment into her mouth, pleased, saying, “Jessica’s the impressive one, able to get pregnant! Aurora is just a useless woman who can’t have children. Kicking her out is the best decision in three years.”
They never considered that without Aurora’s initial support, Roland wouldn’t have his status today.
Moreover, the Duncan family never respected Aurora.
Hearing Ruby’s words, Roland suddenly thought of that night with Jessica, but he couldn’t recall how he made love with her.
Meanwhile, at Hansen Villa…
