Chapter CHAPTER 43
It has been two months since her wedding, and she was now eight months pregnant. Chloe wanted her relationship with Lucius to go smoother. Since then, they have only argued, and it was driving her a wedge. She thought marrying Lucius would be her answer, and she was wrong.
Lucius only worked and ignored her the entire since their last argument. Chloe took the time to finish her book and sent it for publishing. She hopes the process will make her write a sequential to her first book. Another thing Chloe knows she wants out of her marriage and does not want to be unhappy either. She made a plan to leave Lucius before the twins were born.
"Mum, can I stay with you and Papa for a bit?" Chloe whispered into the phone while in the bedroom.
"Why? What's wrong, darling?" Mrs. Swartz replies.
"I will explain when I get there," Chloe said before hanging up.
Chloe grabbed a duffel bag from the closet and started packing clothes. Lucius heard the doors slamming shut in the bedroom and went to investigate.
"What are you doing?" Lucius questioned.
"I can't stay here like this. You and I are always at either throat. I decided to stay with my parents until the twins were born. I feel we need a break from either for a while." Chloe informed Lucius of her plans.
"I am sorry. I just wish we could work out our problems. If you feel this way and accept taking a break from either, it will be best. You will call once in a while to see if you are okay, at least." Lucius comments and feels rejected by Chloe leaving him for a while.
"I will think about it," Chloe replies before leaving the apartment.
Chloe deposited her things in her car and drove to her parents' house. She has been back home in three years. Also, she did not feel like she was not making a big mistake either. What she needed was to her head in order before she decided to contact Lucius again. He was her husband, after all. Driving to her parents' house was uneventful and quite easy to deal with. When she got her parent's house, her mother was waiting for her on the porch.
"Come here," Mrs. Swartz said, embracing her daughter.
"Hi, mom. I'm sorry for hanging up on you earlier. Just could not pack talking on the phone. Lucius accepted that I needed to be away from him for a while. Should I contact him in a week to see how I am feel talking to him. He has understood my decision to leave. " Chloe explained some of her situation to her mother.
Mrs. Swartz led her daughter inside for them to talk some more about what had happened. Her father was not home as usual to help deal with things concerning his daughter. It made Chloe feel empty every time she came home. Chloe knew her father did a lot for the family. She was sure her father had already heard about it from Miles.
"Are you and Lucius planning a dirovce?" Mrs. Swartz questioned Chloe
"No, mum. We are not getting a divorce. We decided to take time apart from either. We were arguing too much to be in the same room with either." Chloe explained.
Her mother accepted that explanation for her daughter showing up. She still was not convinced that she was happy with Lucius. It still made her doubt that her daughter was not going to divorce her husband. Mrs. Swartz kept her comments to herself.
"Your room is the same as how you left three years ago. I will let you get settled first. Then we will talk about how long it will be that you will stay." Mrs. Swartz told her daughter.
Chloe only nodded and settled into her old room. She felt the past coming in by looking at the old decorations hanging on the walls and on the dresser. Quickly, she put away all her clothes from the duffel bag and put her bag under the bed. She wanted to sleep but instead needed to talk to her mother about her lengthy stay would be.
"You wanted to talk to me about staying here a lengthy time?" Chloe asked.
"Yes. It will help so your father will not expect you to stay for long after the twins are born." Mrs. Swartz told Chloe.
"I will leave before the twins will get here. I will stay for a month if that will be okay?" Chloe questioned.
"Okay. That is an acceptable option. But what will happen with your relationship with Lucius?" Mrs. Swartz replies.
"I will stay with him due to having the twins with him. Otherwise, it takes time for me to get used to being around again without arguing. You and Dad did not have an easy marriage in the beginning. So, I am learning about what it means to be married. I just need time dealing with everything going on in my head and recent events. So, I will stay a couple of weeks if it's not a problem," Chloe told her mother.
"That is understandable. Okay, I will agree to it. Will it help if I stay with you and Lucius after the twins are born to help both if you have a break when needed. Your father will also help both of you. The twins you are having are going to be great things." Mrs. Swartz acknowledged.
Chloe lended over to hug her mother and sat back down across from her. She still felt afraid of giving birth, and with her mother, there would be helpful. The two women talked a couple of hours and went to be soon after.
A couple of days go by, and the phone rings. Chloe looks to see it to be Lucius calling to check up on her. She does not feel like talking to him so soon. Her mother screens the calls for her. Lucius continues to call for the rest of the week.
The next week comes without any stress. Chloe gets a call from Lucius, and then Margo calls her. She answers Margo’s call. During that time, Chloe gave her friend an update on her situation with Lucius. Her father finally comes home from a business trip with the council. He mentions something about Miles. Chloe gives it another mind.
"Chloe, call back your husband. I can't keep screening his calls for you." Mrs. Swartz tells her daughter.
"I just don't feel ready to," Chloe sighs and sits down at the kitchen table.
"You do need to talk to him sometime before he comes here in person to check on you," Mrs. Swartz replies as she did so. There was a knock at the door. "Speaking of Lucius. He is at the door doing a welfare check on you."
Mrs. Swartz opens the door to let Lucius in. She moved aside to let him through into the kitchen. He looks over at Chloe.
"You look well," Lucius comments.
"I have felt better," Chloe replies, "But what are you doing here?"
"You have ignored my calls the last week. I felt I needed to make sure my wife and twins were doing okay. Chloe, I need you to come back to the apartment. Please come home. I miss you," Lucius begged.
Mrs. Swartz left the room to give the couple some privacy.
"If I come back home, you better promise me that we won't argue over stupid stuff anymore. You have to keep your word that you will not ignore me either. It will personally help if we are on the same page. When the twins are born, communication will be key to survive the madness. Am I clear on my requests?" Chloe asked.
"Yes, ma'am," Lucius replies and saluted Chloe like a general.
"Thank you. It is late in the day. So, I will come home tomorrow or the next," Chloe told Lucius.
Lucius agreed with Chloe. He hugs her and leaves soon after.
Chloe felt some relief but still thinks of taking her time to come back to her apartment. She did not want to go back just yet. Then again, she could not stay at her parents' place forever. Maybe in due time, she will forgive Lucius, but not yet.
Another week passed by, Chloe was still at her parents'house. Lucius tried to convince to come home. Chloe told him she needed more time. She wanted the month away from her husband to decompress before going into labor and having babies to take care of.
It was the last week of the month. Chloe woke one night in pain. Her back started hurting, and the pain increased throughout the morning. She made sure to let her mother know what was going on. The pain got worse as time flew by. She was not sure if she was in labor and went to the hospital. They only sent her home. In the early morning, Chloe's water broke. Everyone was in frenzy. Her parents called everyone. Lucius was the last to show up to the hospital.
"I'm here," Lucius replied to Chloe.
