Chapter 28
Caroline’s ferocious yelling shocked everyone.
“Lime? What do you mean?” asked Harry in perplexity.
Caroline picked up the urn from the table and showed it to him. “Look at this. Look closely! Are these my mom’s ashes? No! It’s all lime! How could you be so heartless? Can’t you even leave her remains alone? Some nerve you have to call yourself human.”
Flying off the handle, Caroline flung the lime toward Harry.
Harry covered his face with his hand in the nick of time, but his body was all white.
It was really the smell of lime.
“What happened? Why would it all turn to lime? Caroline, I’d never tamper with your mom’s ashes. That time, I got it from the funeral home and sent her to the columbarium right away. During the whole time, I haven’t once opened the urn!”
As Harry spoke, Caroline was still staring at them. Afraid that she wouldn’t believe him, Harry could only make a vow in front of everybody.
“Caroline, if you don’t believe me, I’ll swear to God that I’ve never touched her ashes. If I did, I shall be struck by lightning. ran over by a truck, and then die a terrible death!”
As she witnessed her father swear such a vicious oath, Caroline could tell he wasn’t lying.
With that, her cold gaze swept across the room and finally landed on Melissa’s face again. Melissa shook her head frantically in fear, almost forgetting that she had made a fool of herself before.
“We don’t know anything about this, Caroline. If you didn’t tell us, we’d never know. You should investigate this carefully. Is there someone who made a mistake? This isn’t trivial!”
“Of course, I’ll look into it!”
She had made up her mind to run an investigation on the matter. Never would she want to miss out on even the tiniest leads.
Caroline pressed on with yet another query. “Which funeral home did you send my mom to cremate after she passed on? Did you all show up, too?”
“Of course, we were all there at her funeral. She was cremated at Valley Funeral Home in Jipsdale.”
“Yes.”
Harry nodded.
“Did you all see with your own eyes that her body was pushed into the cremator?” asked Caroline.
“Yes, we all saw the staff push her in. How could we be wrong? After the cremation, your dad received the ashes, and we sent them to the columbarium.”
“After she passed on, you didn’t even buy her a decent tomb, and you threw her to the columbarium? Don’t you feel guilty for staying in a big mansion yourself?” interrogated Caroline with wrath.
With a guilty conscience, they all lowered their heads. Caroline, in turn, grabbed the urn and continued in a cold manner, “I’ll look into this no matter what. Once I’ve found who the mastermind was. I’d tear that person into pieces!”
There was dead silence in the house. They all felt that Caroline was like a devil who came back from the dead.
“She’s so horrifying they remarked mentally.
On her way back, Caroline was lost in thought.
If Harry didn’t replace her mother’s ashes on purpose, it then must have something to do with Valley Funeral Home.
The next step was to investigate the Valley Funeral Home, but she didn’t have time that day.
It was almost time to pick up her son from school.
Caroline instructed Riley, “Go to Eureka Kindergarten.
Eureka Kindergarten was the best noble kindergarten in Jipsdale.
Those who enrolled their kids there were basically from rich families who could easily afford the expensive tuition fee.
The Ziegler family had arranged for the best kindergarten for Leon, hoping that he could receive the best education from an early age

Nevertheless, they didn’t take into account Leon’s medical condition. As a child who had lost the ability to speak, it was difficult for him to blend in with other kids.
In particular, Leon was an eccentric and reclusive person. Every single day, he didn’t eat or take a nap at school. All he did was be alone in the corner, giving all his teachers and classmates the cold shoulder.
As time went by, the teacher gave up on him. With that, he became an exception in the school.
On that fateful day, Leon gave his teacher a terrible headache. From the second he set foot into the school in the morning. he stood in front of the window as he gawked outside without even putting down his school bag.
The teachers all thought that there must be something wrong with the child of the Ziegler family. If it weren’t for the fact that the Ziegler family was the leader of the five formidable families, they would have persuaded them to have the child. drop out of school.
They deemed that it was a waste of their time, even if the Ziegler family had fully paid the tuition fee.
In actuality, the teachers didn’t know that Leon was smarter than the rest. He felt disdained to learn childish things at school and loathed being together with the other children, for it only made him feel even lonelier.
Because of that, he missed his mother. He was merely waiting for her to pick him up from school.
Since that very morning, he had been a nervous wreck. He was worried that his mother would ditch him and never show up to pick him up. “What should I do by then?” he wondered.
Eventually, it was time for school to be over. Leon stood in front of the line, hoping to see his mother the second he stepped out.
Yet, when the teacher saw them out, it was Savannah who came to get him.
“Leo! I’m here to pick you up. Let’s go home together!”
The instance Leon caught sight of Savannah’s face outside the school, his tiny face darkened.
He felt a tingle in his nose as a super uncomfortable feeling arose in his heart. He was on the verge of tears.
“Mommy really didn’t come! I’m sure she would never come again!” he thought.
Witnessing the sullen look on Leon’s face, Savannah coaxed, “Let’s go, Leo! I’ll treat you to something delicious, okay?”
She wanted to hold Leon’s hand, but the latter shook off her hand and stood rooted at the school gate, unwilling to leave.
“Huh? What’s wrong with you? Don’t you want to go home? School is dismissed for today, you know!”
Savannah had already picked up the other two children, except for him.
No matter how hard Savannah tried to persuade Leon, he held on to the guardrail and refused to let go.
Just then, an elegant lady held a bulky little boy’s hand and passed by them.
When the boy noticed Leon, he said to his mother, “Look, Mommy! He’s that dummy in our class!”
The lady also knew Leon. “Don’t mix around with him. Something’s off with him!”
Savannah recognized the lady. The latter was Yasmin Fuller, the wife of Samuel Queen, who was Jipsdale’s official and went by the title Chief Queen. Just like Yasmin, Savannah was also a member of the Victorious Club.
Yasmin’s son had made such a blunt remark about Leon, yet as a mother, she didn’t teach her son a lesson. Even Savannah couldn’t stand the sight of that.
“Mrs. Queen, isn’t it a little too much to speak like that of another person?”
Yasmin chuckled and replied, “Oh, Ms. Xydias! This son of the Ziegler family really has a problem. I’m already so worried. that he’ll be a bad influence on my son now that they’re classmates, you know!”
Savannah didn’t dare to offend Yasmin, thus keeping her own mouth buttoned. Just when the mother–and–son duo was about to leave, the little boy made an odd face at Leon and shouted, “Leon’s a loner; a poor boy without a mother; he should go home and take a breather.”
Leon was often made a laughing stock by his classmates, but he couldn’t tolerate being mocked for not having a mother.
At that juncture, Leon was as angry as a bear. Without a second thought, he put on a fierce mien and bolted toward the kid before he smacked him.
Amid the tussling, Leon clawed at the other party’s face.
“Hey! What are you doing? How dare you hit my son!”
Seeing Leon bullying her son, Yasmin pulled him away and shoved him to the side. “What the heck! What a lawless kid!
Chapter 28
How dare you lay a finger on my precious one! Come here, you little bastard. I’ll teach you a lesson right now!”
Raising her hand, Yasmin was all so ready to land a tight slap across Leon’s cheek, but at that very moment, a gust of cold wind wafted toward her as someone firmly clasped her wrist.
