Chapter 1374 Extra Story 129 Of Edgar True Colors
"Cain, it's been reported that William is going to ensure Edgar's safety..." the man explained in an urgent tone over the phone. "No decisions have been made by the senior military officer yet." Casting a glimpse at Maggie, who was ordering food with an innocent smile, and kept asking, "Who's in charge of this?"
Being distracted by the light voice and the noisy background, the man on the other end of the call paused for a few seconds and then revealed the answer. "It's the vice president of Military Commissions, Richard Lu."
"Oh?" Cain seemed not to have expected this name, but there was also a brief flicker of delight in his expression. "Well, I see." Noticing that Maggie had taken the trays of food and was moving towards him, Cain immediately ended the conversation. "Wait until I'm done with this business." He hung up the phone without affording the man an opportunity to reply.
"Who are you talking to so early?" While raising this question, Maggie put the bean curd in front of Cain and introduced the other dishes. "Here you are. This is my favorite. It is the specialty here: buns stuffed with braised pork." While introducing the food, she moved two of the buns onto the plate for Cain to have a taste.
Being aware of her earlier doubts, Cain smiled casually and explained, "It's early here, but it's already late in M Country."
Hearing this, Maggie was at first shocked, and then frowned. "There won't be any accident, right?"
"No..." Cain shook his head. "I was just making sure of it. Alright, help yourself! When you have finished eating, I will take you back home to get some rest. I should return to my hotel room, too. It's a shame for us to have ended up like this. When we return, I still need to take a shower."
Maggie nodded with a smile, and then began to eat. As a matter of fact, after spending time with Cain these past few days, Maggie had come to accept him. She had found that he was not as unwelcoming as others believed. So, in other words, everyone had a different point of view, and people might surprise us when we gave them the chance.
After the breakfast, Cain drove Maggie and they returned to the military region. He left again once he made sure that she entered the yard.
Cain dialed the phone number as soon as he entered his room. After a while, the phone was answered by a slow and unfamiliar voice. "Long time no see, Uncle Richard," Cain said coldly.
"Excuse me? Who is this speaking now?" Richard frowned and his angular face was full of confusion. Only his personal acquaintances had his phone number, and until now there had seldom been a strange number calling him.
"I happened to hear that you are staying in S City right now. If you are available, I would like to meet with you in person." Cain walked to the closet and selected the clothes that he was going to wear later.
It was unlikely for someone who knew Richard's number to be a person who didn't know him personally, especially considering that he was an influential person in both military and political circles. In addition, it was unlikely that this person could get the hang of him so quickly, so Richard asked, "Where would you meet me?"
Cain slowed his animated gestures, and continued with a smile, "I'll wait for you at the western border of the S Army's security fence. See you in two hours!"
Richard was caught in deep thought, since this guy was not only familiar with his personal business, but also with everything concerning his personal affairs. This man clearly knew everything concerning the S Army. As for the two-hour driving distance... If he was correct, the man must then stay somewhere in the center of S City.
"Okay." Richard's curiosity was piqued about the mysterious man, and his lips took on a firm set under his bright eyes.
Having taken a shower, Cain called the hospital, and assigned someone to oversee the formalities there. Then he drove the mother and son to the airport. After settling all of those affairs, he drove at an incredibly high speed to S Army. He arrived half an hour earlier than the agreed upon time. So he parked the car in an inconspicuous spot, and then moved on foot towards the destination.
An approaching military car caught Cain's eyes while it was still a distance away. In such a quiet environment, the rumbling car was like a monster that had swallowed everything and it dominated the snow-clad world.
Cain stayed where he was crouched and didn't stand up. His face had turned red due to the chilly weather, and the tips of his ears seemed white, like transparent ice. The military car finally dimmed it's lights, and watching this, he finally allowed himself a smile. Meanwhile, Cain took out his cell phone, and dialed Richard's number. The call was connected within a few seconds. Hearing the low and serious voice over the phone, Cain began to say slowly, "Uncle Richard, did you come alone?"
Richard glanced in the rear-view mirror at the back of the car, and then he replied in an indifferent tone once he had made sure that there were no other people around. "I'm alone in the car. You may come out now."
With a smile, Cain hung up the phone and walked right through the snow-clad leaves which decorated the ground.

Maggie was stopped by the staff after entering the airport, as she had wanted to see off the mother and son. She looked around, but Cain was nowhere to be found, so she couldn't help biting her lips in annoyance. 'He's a liar! Hmm!' she thought flippantly. Being understandably upset, Maggie turned around to leave the airport, but a sense of frustration was still lingering in her mind for some unfathomable reason. Looking down, she put her hands in the pockets of her cotton-padded jacket, kicked slightly at the snow and then moved along. Suddenly she was blocked by a dark and unexpected shadow, and she stopped and looked up at the same time.
What she saw was a smiling face, or rather an amusing face to be more specific. "Am I mistaken?" Maggie couldn't believe her eyes. She looked around instinctively and then focused on the view in front of her again before exclaiming, "Tompson, is that you?" She could not believe who she was seeing.
Tompson grinned at Maggie. "You're right! It's me, my sweet girl."
Maggie was entertained by his humorous greeting. Perhaps because of what had happened last time, she had changed a lot. So she had become more open-minded towards Tompson and was actually interested in his personal life. "When did you get back?" "I've just stepped off the plane." Tompson smiled, looked around and continued, "I'm back to look in on Edgar and to discuss something. Why are you here alone? Are you seeing someone off? Where's Edgar?" He was aware that Maggie had been receiving some temporary training during the holidays, and Edgar was her instructor. It didn't take a genius to see that Maggie was greatly annoyed by that guy! Even the blind could see their closeness. But clearly Edgar also infuriated her.
Maggie nodded and shrugged, trying to hide the signs of her being upset. "Yeah, I'm here to see somebody off. Edgar was summoned by the army. It looks like that there's something happening."
Hearing this, Tompson revealed a glimmer of concern, but it just flashed in his eyes for a brief moment, and Maggie paid no attention to it at all. "Let's go, and talk about it." He turned around and at the same time asked Maggie curiously, "Do you know anything about the summons? Tomorrow is New Year's Eve."
