Love An Eagle

Chapter 11

When they reached Wamblee’s house, he carried her suitcases inside and put them by the door. Glancing at her watch, Cara saw it was a little after eight p.m.

“It’s been a long day,” she told him as he led the way to his sitting room.

Sitting down, he pulled her into his lap and kissed her. “It has been, but we probably still need to talk.”

Cara turned her head. “About what?”

He pulled his fingers gently through her hair before he cupped her cheek. “I love you and I want nothing more than to mark you and bed you, but I want you to be ready for that too. I won’t do something you aren’t ready for. I saw the look on your face when Monica mentioned you staying with me and us being unmarried.”

“We went over this Wamblee, and I am sure. I want you, I love you and I plan to love you for the rest of my life. I’m ready for this, and besides, you said it’s basically like marriage anyway. So, when it happens, in your world we will be married,” she said, before yawning. Her face then turned red. “Just maybe not tonight because the emotional upheaval has tired me beyond tired.”

“Alright,” he softly agreed. “Well, I have a guest room and it won’t take me but a moment…”

Cara began shaking her head and Wamblee stopped talking.

“No, just because I don’t feel like…um…doing anything doesn’t mean I don’t want to sleep in the same bed as you. I want to be held close by you Wamblee,” she informed him.

“Alright,” he agreed, looking relieved. “Let’s get you something washed for tomorrow, then bed. Or would you rather get up in the morning and do it?”

She yawned again, leaning her head sleepily on his shoulder. “Morning. I’m too tired tonight to care if I have clean clothing to wear tomorrow or not.”

“Just going to find your cleanest dirty clothes to wear?”

“I might,” she told him with a cheeky look before laying her head back on his shoulder.

“You’re something else Cara,” he told her as he chuckled.

He then helped her up and led the way to his room. Once there, he helped her into one of his tee shirts and put her to bed.

“I’m going to go lock up and turn off lights. It won’t take but a minute and then I’ll be back,” he told her.

She gave a slight nod, and even as he watched, she began drifting off to sleep.

Wamblee wasn’t as tired as Cara was. He had grown use to staying up late, so he could slip into her bed late into the night.

So, returning to the front hall, he picked up her suitcases. The small one he took to his room and left it. The large one he took with him to his laundry room. Laying it on his folding table, he opened it up. He then sorted through what she’d placed in it. Finding mostly colored clothing, he tossed them into the wash, along with a few of his own things, and started them washing.

Then he headed for the kitchen to take stock of what he had in his pantry. Realizing how empty it was, he began to make a list of things he needed to buy. By the time he was finished, the wash was finished, so he threw everything in the dryer.

Seeing it was after nine, he stifled a yawn.

“Hopefully, the drying won’t take long,” he muttered as he sat down with a book to read.

Finally, he heard the dryer go off and he made his way to the laundry room. Once there, he found the clothing dry. So, he quickly folded most of them, hanging up the few hanging items on the rod he had installed for his dress shirts to hang on.

When he was finished, he tiredly headed to his room and his bed. There, he stripped down and crawled under the covers.

Cara rolled to him and wrapped her body around his, sighing in her sleep.

He closed his eyes, a big smile on his face at having his winyan in his arms, and slept.

Cara awakened with a yawn and a stretch, then she grimaced. Yuck! Her teeth had a fine coating of crude on them!

Feeling a warmth behind her, she had to smile. Wamblee. Turning her head, she saw he was still sleeping, his head almost buried under his pillow where he lay on his stomach. Looking at his bedside clock she saw it was only five-thirty. They didn’t have to be to work until eight, so she had time to wash her clothes before they’d have to go.

Slipping from the bed carefully, she made her way to the bathroom and found her personal things already there. So, she quickly brushed her teeth and washed her face.

Stepping back into the bedroom, she spotted her small suitcase on the floor by the door and wondered where the large one was. Leaving the bedroom, she rambled through his house until she found his laundry room and a happy sound left her when she spotted her already washed clothes. He’d even folded and hung a few of them up.

“Such a sweet man,” she murmured. “I should fix him breakfast…sadly, I don’t know much about doing that.”

Turning to walk back into the kitchen, she found Wamblee leaning on the door jam. “Good morning.”

She smiled and walked into his arms, wrapping hers around him as he did the same. “Good morning. Thank you for washing and drying my clothes.”

“You’re welcome. Now, how about something to eat? I found a bit of bacon, some eggs, and bread.”

“I was just thinking I should fix you breakfast, but I don’t know much,” she told him a bit embarrassed.

Leaning in, he kissed her cheek. “It’s alright my sweet winyan. I’ll teach you the basics if you’d like to learn.”

“I would,” she told him.

“Alright, we’ll start tonight. For now, I’ll fix breakfast,” he told her.

“I know how to fix eggs, scrambled ones anyway,” she informed him.

“Yes, but there isn’t room at the stove for both of us.”

She pouted. “But you did my laundry. I wanted to do something for you.”

“And you will, tonight,” he said, with a double-entendre.

“Okay, tonight,” she agreed, and they headed for the kitchen and breakfast.

Arriving at work, they walked in together after Wamblee unlocked the door.

“I’ll start some coffee. I know everyone will want some and its one of the few things I know how to do,” Cara said.

Wamblee nodded as he headed for his office. “I have a few things to do before we open, so I’ll be in my office. Could you bring me a cup when it finishes?”

Cara smiled. “I can.”

He gave her a wink as he entered his office.

Roughly ten minutes later, Cara carried a cup of hot coffee into Wamblee’s office. “Here you go,” she said as she sat it down.

Wamblee looked up from his computer. “Thank you. Anyone else here yet?”

Cara smirked. “Like you wouldn’t have heard them.”

He shrugged. “Just thought…ah, and there is someone now.”

“Hello? Where is everyone?” a female voice called.

“Peggy,” Wamblee murmured. Then louder, he said, “My office.”

“What are the two of you doing in here?” Peggy asked as she poked her head in.

“I’m doing paperwork and Cara is delivering coffee,” Wamblee answered.

Peggy crossed her arms and leaned on the door jam. “You know, I feel like you two have a secret. The two of you couldn’t keep your eyes off each other last night at dinner.”

“You know our secret Peggy, she is my soulmate and you are the only one who knows,” Wamblee said, disagreeing with her statement.

“No, no, it’s something more I think,” Peggy said, her eyes narrowing. “Did you mark her? Is that what it is?”

“No,” Wamblee said with a shake of his head.

“Fine, don’t…wait, you took her home with you last night! Didn’t you?”

“Yes, Peggy, he did. What is the big deal about it?” Cara asked.

Peggy gave a slight laugh. “Because no one has seen his new house, not even his unci and he’s closer to her then anyone else in his family.”

Cara turned to look at Wamblee. “Is that true?”

Wamblee looked at his computer screen, a blank look on his face. “When I bought the place, I made up my mind that the first person who would see it was you. When I wasn’t here, getting this place ready, I was at home getting it ready for you. I wanted it to be more than a house to move you into. I wanted it to be a home.”

“You knew I was your soulmate before you bought the house?” Cara asked.

“I did. The day I came into the dentist office to pick up my unci, I felt the call as soon as our eyes met. Not dragging you out with me that day was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” he told her.

Just then, they heard the outer door once more.

“We’d better get to work,” Peggy stated. “If you aren’t ready for anyone to know yet, you shouldn’t be in here.”

Cara looked at Wamblee, and he nodded. “Go. Now is not the time to make it public.”

Cara nodded and followed Peggy out.

Peggy stopped and leaning in, she whispered, “I totally ship the two of you.”

Then they laughed together at the almost juvenile saying and went to clock in and start their work day.

Cara had worked hard all morning, she’d then gone and enjoyed having lunch, and a few kisses with Wamblee.

“To tide us over until we go home,” he’d murmured before going back to work.

Glancing at the clock she saw it was now almost three and they had a slight lull. So, standing up, she stretched, thinking she might go to the bathroom and grab a bottle of water. Moving quickly, she did just that as she heard the bell jingle on the door.

As she left the room she heard someone say, “Hello everyone, Ramona, can you tell me if my grandson is busy?”

After getting her water, she returned to the front and walked toward the window. Ms. Dolly stood there, laughing at something Ramona had said.

“Ms Dolly, it’s so good to see you,” Cara told her with a smile.

“Cara! How is my grandson treating you? I told him you were perfect for this job,” Ms. Dolly said.

Cara laughed. “He told me you had, and he pays well.”

Ms. Dolly laughed. “Good for you. I’m guessing that means this is you only job?”

“Yes ma’am,” Cara answered.

“Found a place to live yet?” Ms. Dolly asked her then.

Cara wasn’t sure how to answer that question. She’d practically moved in with Wamblee last night when she’d brought most all her clothes with her. Although it wasn’t official yet, she hoped he’d mark her and she would be staying with him permanently.

“Unci, are you keeping my girls from working?” Wamblee asked as he appeared next to Ms. Dolly at the window.

Ms. Dolly harrumphed at his words. “No, I am not. I just came to…” she stopped as she looked past Cara at something. She then spoke low, “Why is she still here?”

Cara somehow knew Ms. Dolly was referring to Becky.

“Not now unci,” Wamblee cautioned as he too looked behind Ramona and Cara. “Monday Greg will be here, until then she is needed.”

Ms. Dolly gave a sharp nod before saying. “Do you have my pills? I hate them, but I suppose they do make me feel better.”

He gave a nod. “Walk back with me and I’ll show you what I’ve done with my office. I took your suggestions and I think you’ll like it.”

Cara saw him glance her way as he started to follow his grandmother. He winked.

Ramona turned to look at her with a knowing look and she went back to her desk quickly!

Cara grunted as she slipped her shoes back on and stood up.

Ramona had left a few minutes earlier, locking the front door.

Peggy would be finishing the exam room clean up.

Becky would be…well, who knew what she would be doing!

Wamblee would be doing his last-minute paperwork.

As for her, she was so tired and so ready to head out!

“Bet you’re ready to go home for some lovin’ aren’t you?” Peggy whispered close to her ear.

Cara jumped and turned with a startled squeal. “Peggy, don’t sneak up on a person like that!”

“Sorry, forgot your hearing isn’t as good as mine,” Peggy apologized. “I wanted to say though, did you see Lee call Becky in to his office earlier?”

Cara shook her head. “No, what happened?”

“I think he fired her, she left after anyway. She looked mad as a hornet, red faced and looking as if she could kill someone,” Peggy told her softly.

Cara frowned. “I thought he was waiting for…um…Doctor…oh, what is his name?”

“Greg Childers, he’s the OBGYN. He must be coming early or sending his nurse ahead because I know what I heard,” Peggy said.

“Hm…well, can’t say as I’ll miss her,” Cara replied.

“Ready to go winyan?” Wamblee said, appearing in the doorway.

Cara looked over at him and couldn’t help but stare as he unbraided his hair and ran his fingers through it. Oh, how she wished it was her fingers doing that.

Wamblee caught her looking and winked.

Peggy laughed. Then she headed for the door as she said, “I’ll see you two tomorrow.”

Cara moved closer to Wamblee only to have him back up slightly. She frowned. “What’s wrong?”

“If I touch you now, I’ll be tossing you over a desk. I need…” he stopped and shook his head. “Let’s go home, I just need you to myself.”

Cara nodded, noticing the strained look on his face. She quickly followed him out the door and they made there way to their vehicles.

“Follow me home?” He asked.

“Yeah, sounds good,” she agreed.

She was still puzzled about why he wouldn’t let her touch him, but perhaps he would explain when they got to his home. She hoped so anyway, because she really wanted to touch him.
