Chapter Billionaire My Husband 263
HOT WATER
JESS
The early light of dawn spilled softly into the room, painting everything in muted greys and blues. Luke's arm was draped across me, his steady breaths tickling the crook of my neck, his chest rising and falling with a rhythm that somehow matched my own.
I let my fingers trace the faint scars and tattoos etched into his back, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath my touch. Every line and mark told a story, even if he hadn't shared them with me yet.
Last night had been about him. I hadn't wanted anything else. When he'd tried to return the favor, I'd pressed my lips to his and whispered, "Soon. But for now, let me take care of you." And I had.
My phone buzzed on the nightstand, the sudden sound jarring in the stillness. Carefully, I reached for it without disturbing him, glancing at the screen.
Laura: "How did the night go?"
Balancing the phone awkwardly with one hand, I typed back.
"He wanted to shower a few times and managed to fall asleep after midnight. You?"
Her reply came almost instantly, the brightness of the screen making my eyes squint.
Laura: "Josh had a nightmare. It was bad, but he's sleeping now. He

hasn't told me anything about the island, though.".
I frowned, my thumb hovering over the keys as I glanced at Luke. His features were relaxed in sleep, but even now, shadows lingered under his eyes, hints of a weight he carried even in dreams. I typed back, my fingers hesitating before sending.
"Luke hasn't spoken about it either."
As I hit send, Luke shifted beside me, his arm tightening around my waist as he buried his face against my shoulder. I froze, holding my breath until his grip loosened, his breathing evening out again.
I stared at the screen, re-reading Laura's messages. A pang of worry gnawed at me. Whatever had happened on that island had left its mark on both of them, and while I wanted to ask and ease the burden they carried, I couldn't bring myself to do it. Not yet.
Instead, I set the phone back down and turned toward Luke, letting my fingers brush through his damp curls, which still smelled faintly of
soap.
"I'll wait," I whispered to him, even though he couldn't hear me. "When you're ready, I'll be here."
The sun started filtering in, its warm rays chasing away the greys of night. Luke was warm, like a space heater warm. I needed a shower, so I wiggled out from underneath him and tip-toed to the shower.
The hot water cascaded over my shoulders, soothing and warm, as steam curled around me. My hands worked through my hair, the familiar floral scent of my shampoo filling the air. It was one of the few indulgences I'd kept for myself, a small comfort amidst everything. 25.69%

The sound of the door opening pulled me from my thoughts. I froze for a moment, the water drumming against my back before I heard the quiet shuffle of feet on the tile.
"Luke?" I called out, though I already knew the answer.
He didn't respond immediately. Instead, I felt him-his hands skimming along my arms, his touch sending a shiver through me despite the warmth of the water. His arms snaked around me, pulling me gently against his chest.
"I missed the scent of your shampoo... so much," he murmured, his voice low and rough, lips brushing against the curve of my neck.
I leaned back into his embrace, feeling the solid warmth of him.
Turning toward him, I tried to wrap my arms around his neck, but my growing belly made the motion awkward. I let out a laugh, the sound bouncing off the tiled walls. Luke chuckled softly, his hands steadying me as his smile met mine. "You okay?" he asked, his thumb brushing over my cheek.
"Yeah," I managed, still laughing a little. "Just... getting used to this."
Luke's eyes softened as they roamed over me, his smile fading into something deeper. "You-pregnant-I mean, you were always beautiful. But seeing you like this, growing what we created out of love... it's... I don't have words." His lips found my hair as he spoke, his voice muffled but filled with emotion. The water ran in rivulets down my back, pooling between us as I leaned into his chest.
I closed my eyes, letting his words settle in my heart. "I don't think I have words either," I whispered, tilting my face up to him.

He leaned down, capturing my lips in a slow kiss that was full of everything he couldn't say. His hands cradled my face like I was something precious, his touch reverent. For a moment, the rest of the world melted away. There was only us- wrapped in steam, water, and love.
