Chapter 11: A Plea to Nemesis
The early morning light greeted Nemesis when he paid a visit on the Harem. Most of the women lay asleep. Only Myra was lying awake, pondering Selina’s fate as Sakura, Jasmine, and Hitomi lay asleep where Selina had once lain. Selina’s unknown fate troubled Myra’s heart deeply. As she lay there in the dimness of the early morning light, she heard the panel slide open and propped herself up to see who it was. Nemesis stepped out into the room and looked around to see if everything was all right. First, he saw Myra propped up on her arm looking in his direction, and then he noticed that Selina missing. His countenance dropped as he stepped forward quietly. Myra rose and ran to him with her arms outstretched, tears in her eyes. She threw her arms around the great bear and sobbed softly. This move surprised Nemesis, so he hesitated, and then put his arms around her. “What’s wrong, my dear Myra? Where’s Selina?” he asked.
Myra looked up in his face and sobbed, “They came and spirited her away in the middle of the night two days ago. We have no idea what has become of her!”
Nemesis growled, asking, “Gone?”
Myra nodded as he wiped her tears away with his organic hand. “You have to find her quickly,” Myra whimpered, “She’s in great danger. The Emperor means to make her his queen.”
Nemesis’ attitude changed dramatically, becoming visibly angered. “How do you know this?” he asked tartly.
“Selina had a dream just before she disappeared where the Emperor and the Cadre came for her. The Emperor didn’t take her but the Cadre tried to,” Myra whimpered. “They violated her and the Emperor told her that she was to be his queen. When she woke from it, I thought it was just the Emperor simply trying to violate her as he has to us so many times until she told us the dream. She was hysterical when she woke. You have to find her, Nemesis. If the Cadre turns her, she’ll be lost forever.”
Nemesis swore under his breath. “They did it without me knowing, the lousy sons of bitches,” he snarled. “If they were able to do it without me knowing, then Ahriaman is directly involved.” He growled deeply, cursing the Cadre and the Emperor. Looking down into Myra’s face, he said resolutely, “I will find her, Myra. I promise. I made a covenant with Hanna to watch out for Selina until she returned. But never fear, my little Harem flower. I think I know where to start looking.”
Hope began to fill Myra’s heart and it showed on her face. She clenched his hand to her cheek for a moment, saying, “Thank you, my friend.” Nemesis took his hand back and disappeared like a ghost into the secret passage, leaving Myra standing alone in the dim light. She stood there for nearly five minutes before returning to her bed.
