Chapter 13
Chapter 13
Someone who didn’t expect anything in return.
Max pulls his hand back and moves over to the bathroom. I hear the water running, and when he comes back into the room, he’s carrying a glass of water. He hands it to me and watches me while I take the pills.
I finish off the water, all the while feeling his eyes on me. He’s unable to look away from my face, and I reach my hand up to touch my lip before tracing my fingers over to my eye. The skin is warm and tender and makes me wince. I must be black and blue, and I hate that he’s seeing me like this.
Ethan probably told him all about what happened at the warehouse.
“You don’t smell right.” He says, his voice soft.
I don’t bother to answer. No way am I telling them I haven’t shifted. If they find out, they may force my shift and with being on suppressants for years, that could kill
me.
“It’s descenter.” I lean over and set the glass down on the bed-side table.
“Why are you wearing descenter?”
“You would wear it too if you were Omega.” I thread my fingers together and drag my pointer finger over my thumbnail. Max stares at me like he just remembered I am an Omega and not an alpha like them. It used to be so easy for them to forget and treat me like an equal. The rest of the world doesn’t do that. To them, I’m. weak. It’s better to be nothing than an omega without a pack, or an Omega who would willingly beg them at their feet to knot me when my heat starts over. I couldn’t imagine living with that humiliation.
I don’t know what to say to him. There is nothing that will make this better. So I don’t say anything at all.
-Max POV-
Her reluctance to speak with me annoys me slightly. I had wanted things to be easy with her, like they were before. She feels different. She is not the same Rose I knew

1 283 Vouchers I grab the antiseptic and cotton gauze and clean her wounds, taking care of them. She hisses and tries to squirm away, but I grab her ankle. Holding her in place. It shouldn’t feel so good to touch her, but it does. Sparks dance over my skin and I close my eyes, breathing in.
It would be so much different if she would just stop pretending, then we could claim her. She would be ours, as she was always meant to be. I finish taking care of her before tossing the used gauze into the wastebasket beside the nightstand.
After tending to Rose’s wounds, I reach into the bag of medical supplies and retrieve the ankle monitor Ethan insists she wears. The look of horror on her face tells me she knows how f ucked she is. She knows there will be no escaping us this time.
“Wait, what are you doing?” she blurts, trying to escape me by crawling backward across the bed. I glare at her and grip her ankle.
“Rose.” I warn.
“Max, please. You don’t need to do this,” she panics as I drag her closer. She kicks and thrashes, making me growl. She doesn’t realize how much her panic makes my beast rise to the surface. I want her.
I try to ignore the fear permeating from her pores. Even her fear is addictively sweet, making my coc k twitch in my pants. It would be so easy for me to pin her and sink myself deep into her, but I hold myself back, knowing Ethan would kill me. Yet, I must admit, the temptation is there. She’s mine, and it would be so easy to
claim her.
