Chapter A Start to a new Beginning
Adele was so happy to see Chris alive and healthy that she instantly kissed him on his lips. For a moment, Chris was stunned and still as a stone, fearing the blissful moment would end. He then responded to the kiss with equal enthusiasm grabbing her hair to deepen the kiss. They parted only when they were out of breath, and Adele said in between her pants, ” I...I love you.”
" What?” Chris asked, even more, shocked.
" I love you, Chris. I really do.”
Chris was so overwhelmed by Adele’s confession he pulled her for another kiss which lasted for a few seconds, and said with a smile, ” I love you too. Does that mean I am forgiven?”
" I had forgiven you a long time ago, and I am so happy and relieved to see you are alright.”
" What about Alexa?” Chris asked, looking concerned.
" Al...?” Adele called for her wolf.
" Don’t disturb me when I am having a romantic conversation with my mates," Alexa said irritatedly.
" She’s busy,” Adele said, smiling at Chris, who gave her a knowing smile.
" You scared us, buddy,” Liam added, patting Chris on the shoulder.
" Yeah...Liam was crying like a baby thinking you were dead,” Adele teased.
" You didn’t cry for me?” Chris asked Adele.
" Alexa was confident that you weren’t dead.” Adele then looked at his bare chest, which held no wound whatsoever. ” How did you heal so soon?”
" Oh yeah, about that. This river should not be called the holy river; it should be the healing river.”
" Did the river heal you?”
" Of course!! Chris exclaimed excitedly. ” Why else did I pull you into the water?”
Adele and Liam checked their bodies, and their wounds were miraculously healed.
" Wow!! This is incredible.” Liam said excitedly.
“True,” Adele agreed, and then she suddenly realized something. ” Hey... the beasts we were fighting...”
Everyone turned around to see the animals who had been acting aggressively just a while ago were now looking around, confused and lost.
" What’s up with them? Liam asked. ” They aren’t trying to attack us anymore.”
" Adele... your locket,” Chris said, pointing at the moonstone locket, which was now immersed in the water and was glowing red.
Adele held the locket in her hands, taking it out of the water, when she heard Samara shrieking, " Get out of the river right now.”
" I think I know what happened,” Adele remarked. ” The evil witch couldn’t handle the pureness of this holy river. The animals are out of her control now.”
" You insolent mutts!!” the witch screamed again. " Get out right now, or I will kill you.”
“Why should I?” Adele was in the mood to play with the witch.
" It’s too painful in the water. My body feels like it’s on fire.”
" Does it pain when I do this?” Adele asked and immersed the moonstone locket in the water again.
The witch screamed bloody murder. Adele took it out and immersed it again, repeating the process and enjoying the witch getting tortured.
" You are wicked. I wouldn’t make an enemy of you,” Chris said, looking impressed.
" The witch deserves it,” Adele said with a disgusted look. ” It’s nothing compared to the pain she caused to us.”
" She’s right,” Liam agreed. ” Let her suffer until the moon is up and we destroy her completely.”
Adele took off her chain and tied it around her ankle so that it would be immersed in the water. ” All done, now what?”
" Now we wait,” Liam said.
" You know... This reminds me of the time when we mated,” Chris said, looking at Adele and Liam with lust.
Adele blushed, recalling the first and only time she had gotten intimate with her mates.
" Should we have a repeat?” Liam asked in anticipation.
" Ewww!! Not while the witch is here,” Adele said, scrunching her face.
Chris abruptly pulled Adele towards himself. ” At least we can make out,” he said in a husky voice. ” I can’t control it anymore.”
" Don’t start without me,” Liam pouted and joined in.
They kissed and cuddled for the next few hours, talking about things they missed and always wanted to know about each other. The animals were long gone, and the place was deserted except for the three and the witch still squealing and cursing in the stone.
Soon, the moon was up, and the sight of the moonlight falling on the calm river was mesmerizing.
" It’s beautiful,” Adele said, looking at the scene in front of her.
" Not as much as you,” Liam commented.
" That was cheesy,” Adele chuckled.
" I know.”
Samara had resorted to almost begging. " Please give me a chance. I regret what I have done. I want to renounce myself.”
" That’s the joke of the century,” Liam commented. ” Or maybe a millennium considering her life span.”
" Your acts are not redeemable,” Chris spat. ” I don’t think you can do anything to pay for the evil things you have done to countless people in your quest for power.”
" I swear I will do anything you say. I need one chance.”
" There’s no point in begging,” Adele said.
" You are the most powerful woman I have seen.” Samara tried a different tactic. " Once you release me, I will serve you your whole life. Imagine the things we could achieve together.”
Adele burst into laughter. ” Flattery would lead you nowhere, witch. ”
" Forget about her blabbering and do what you have to do,” Chris said.
Adele nodded and prayed to the Moon Goddess, holding the moonstone in between her palms.
They waited for a few minutes, but the Goddess didn’t appear. Adele tried again with Alexa’s help but still no progress.
" What’s wrong?” Liam asked.
" The Goddess is not showing up.”
" You were calling for the Moon Goddess?” Chris asked, surprised. ” Will she come so easily?”
" She showed herself to Alexa when she was trapped in the moonstone. She was the one who suggested we destroy the moonstone, and for that, we need her powers. ”
" Maybe there’s a catch,” Liam said. ” It’s the Moon Goddess, after all.”
They were all racking their brains about how to proceed further when Liam suddenly saw a strange little creature swimming in the water. ” Look... what’s that?”
Chris and Adele looked in the direction of the creature who was continuously circling around them.
Adele noticed something glowing on its back which looked like a circular symbol with three lines. ” I have seen that symbol somewhere... the one glowing on its back.”
" Yeah... I think it was in one of the paintings? Or was it in the cave?” Liam said.
" Both,” Adele confirmed. ” There should be a meaning to it.”
“Let’s catch the creature,” Chris suggested and leaped forward to grab hold, but the tiny thing escaped. Even Liam and Adele tried, but whatever they did, they couldn’t grab hold of it.
" This isn’t working,” Adele said, exhausted. She stared at the fast-moving creature whose symbol seemed to glow more bright now as if it was giving them a signal. That symbol definitely meant something. ” I think we should try catching it together,” Adele suggested.
They took their positions, pounced on the cute little beast at once from 3 different directions, and successfully grabbed hold of it.
" Finally,” Adele signed in relief. The three lines in the symbol, which were a glowing golden yellow color, slowly changed to silvery-white, and it was so bright; that it lightened the whole forest.
The three of them closed their eyes at the sudden burst of light. The creature flew off from their hands, and the next moment, the Moon Goddess was in front of them, levitating in the air.
" So... you called for me,” the Moon Goddess said, brushing her hair.
" Didn’t you expect me to?”
" Of course I did,” the Goddess said confidently. ” But not so fast. I am impressed.”
Chris and Liam were staring at the gorgeous woman with their mouths open.
" Keep your mouths closed. Your mate is right here,” the Goddess chuckled, looking at Liam and Chris.
Adele snorted while the two men looked embarrassed. ” W-We are sorry,” Chris stuttered. ” It’s just that we can’t believe it’s you.”
" I get to hear that often.”
The three of them walked out of the river, and Adele said to the Goddess, ” So, let’s get rid of this witch. I don’t want to take any more chances. ”
" Yeah... I am fed up with hearing her pleas,” the Moon Goddess said with a sour face.
" What are we supposed to do?”
" You have done enough. Let me do the rest.” The Goddess snapped her fingers, and the moonstone flew off from Adele’s hands to hers. Samara was now screaming so loud, constantly changing from pleading to threatening every few seconds.
The Goddess closed her eyes and chanted a few words. Her hands glowed brightly as a moon, and she crushed the moonstone to pieces and threw it in the river.
" Is that all?” Liam asked, appalled.
" Yes, ” the Goddess replied in a casual tone.
" Did she die? Is the witch gone for good?” Chris asked.
" Yes.”
" If it was so easy, why didn’t you just kill her thousands of years ago?” Chris asked.
The Goddess gave Adele a knowing look as Alexa had asked the same question a few days back. ” You humans always want the easy way out.”
“No, no,” Chris said hurriedly. ” I didn’t mean that.”
" Anyways, I gave Samara a chance to improve, but she did not. So, now I had to end her.”
" Finally, ” Adele said, brightening up. ” There’s no way she can be resurrected or any of that shit, right?”
" No ways,” the Goddess said, flicking her hand. ” I am a Goddess, have some faith in my power.”
" That’s a relief,” Adele said and smiled at her mates.
" We are grateful to you, Goddess,” Liam said, bowing his head.
" You don’t have to be. I will always be there for my children. Also, I am glad you three are together.”
The Goddess smiled at Adele, staring lovingly at her mates, making her blush. ” You all can live in peace now.”
The three nodded, and Adele suddenly remembered something. ” The river... Does it have healing qualities?”
" You must have already experienced that.”
" Then why can’t we use it to heal the others...” Liam started.
" Again, with that,” the Goddess interrupted him. ” Life is not so easy. If you are born, you have to die one day; else, it will stir up the balance. Look at the harm the witch caused by trying to go against the law of nature.”
" Forgive me for my insolence.” Liam looked embarrassed.
" You don’t have to apologize, child. Your intention was not bad. I healed you all because your time is still not up. You have many more great things to do. And anyway, after you leave, you won’t find the river here again.”
" What do you mean?” Adele asked.
" There is no specific location for this enchanted forest. You were able to come here because I allowed it. My work here is done, so I will be leaving now. My blessings are always with you.”
Before the others could ask anything else, the Goddess was gone.
Adele held Chris and Liam’s hand and asked, ” So, let’s go home?”
" Yes, our home, ” Chris said, smiling at Adele.
" The kids would be coming to the Blackwood pack for the first time,” Liam remarked excitedly.
" That’s a cause for a celebration,” Chris added.
" So, is this the end?” Liam asked?
" No, it’s a Start to a new Beginning.”
