Chapter Prologue
Montreal, October 25, 2017, 8:37 p.m.
It was another late night in the office and I was the one employee here... Well... There was another worker and that was my boss. The office was silent but peaceful, the only lights that were on were the desk lamp in my office and the light in the boss' office. He's always been strict and short-tempered, especially without his coffee, if Mr. Morales didn't have his coffee he was a ticking time bomb ready to explode at any moment. He harped on an employee once for paperclipping a file the "wrong way." I didn't even know there was one.
But the last little while has been quite a challenge for me. My mother recently passed away due to cancer and I had a fairly nasty divorce, she took the kid and half of my life savings and nearly took the house. It was either she took it or I'd lose it and by the looks of it, I may just be unlucky enough to lose that too because my boss is on the fence about firing me and tonight would be the night that determines whether I stay or not. I've been working ridiculously hard, harder than I've ever worked before, just to make a living. When the night was over at about 9:30, I was called into his office.
"Blanchet, come on over here," Mr. Morales said in a typical stern voice. This was it, this was what decides if I stay or not. I thought, I followed him into his office and I had to admit... It was nice. He had a large window looking out into downtown Montreal, nice carpeted flooring and even a fish tank in the corner of his room. His desk and chair looked like a villain's which was pretty intense. Mr. Morales pulled a chair up to his desk before he sat in his. He leaned on his desk and had his hands on his chin like he was thinking. He made a gesture toward the chair he pulled up and told me to sit and when I did, I was surprised by what he had to say. "Alright, You did well Blanchet, I have to admit I am impressed for the first time in years," He said.
"That's good news... right?" I responded. Mr. Morales nodded his head in approval and had a small grin tugging at the side of his lips. It was rare to see a man known for being pretty harsh genuinely impressed by my work. "If you keep doing as well as you did tonight every following night in the future, we'll keep you. The work you did tonight was fast, effortless and promotion-worthy. Keep doing that well, you can someday be the head of the office," Mr. Morales said. He gave me that same nod of approval, with the same tiny grin. I breathed a sigh of relief and I was allowed to leave so I did. I often walked home because I only lived a few blocks away. The walk was always peaceful, especially late at night. It was silent and tranquil.
Tonight was one of those rainy nights which were always my favourite. Although I was walking home in the rain without an umbrella, it wasn't too bad. I began heading home and the rain had stopped temporarily instead it was replaced by a cool fall breeze through the atmosphere. Everything was going well and normal until I began hearing a strange sound. It almost sounded like the wind but it had a bit more of a delay and reverb, like if you were in a cave and your voice bounced off the walls. The sound only kept getting louder the closer I got to a building that was a part of the skyline, nearly as tall as the office with 23 floors but not quite. In an alleyway next to the building there was a mysterious purple glow emanating from it.
Curiosity got the best of me and I went in to see what it was and this was where that strange sound was coming from. But what I saw was nowhere near what I had initially thought. There was a massive frame about six stories tall. At first, when I saw what looked like a massive portal frame the weird noise stopped and the purple light disappeared. I began approaching it cautiously and when I did there was a strange purple glow all around the frame that illuminated the night, and the portal reopened nearly blinding me. There was something carved into the frame that didn't make sense but below the long note, there was also a shorter one that could maybe explain what is happening currently.
If you see the frame you are the chosen one, It read, then it continued You have been chosen by Queen Galaxia herself to fulfil the Ending of War prophecy. You were trusted by royalty to end ages of torment but not any royalty, the queen of the Stella Alis. Don't let her down and enter the portal to begin newfound destiny.
