Imperium: Volume 2

Chapter 5.

June's P.O.V.

A few days ago we liberated Prisoner Camp Foxtrott. Today we were doing Delta. It was a few hours the opposite direction of a base camp, and the team and I had taken off at 2 am in the morning minus Raeve. He was asked to go see Harry and give him updates about our efforts, and to see some new recruits that would eventually be making their way to us at Lingham.

My plan to talk to Jay didn't work out as planned, but with a few days of rest I seemed to be feeling much better.

As long as I didn't exert to much energy I should be ok. The tremor was out of the question this time, but as long as I was able to keep a field up, I figured we would be ok. And from what I understood this compound was to be smaller then Foxtrott.

Kipsky, Johansson and their team was with me. Aswell as another Imperium by the name Grayson. Our team was making a name for itself amongst all the resistance. The Liberation team, is what they were calling us. Thats when Grayson joined us. He wanted in on the action.

His ability allowed him to have perfect hearing. It was so good he was able to detect the sound of a thunderstorm from miles away. I first met him on the hanger floor when I watched him assembling a truck, and since then he's joined us at Lingham. He's an excellent shot and certainly came in handy when it came to resistance fighting.

We were looking to hit the camp while it was dark out. This plan was a little different from the last ones, as we normally executed them in the mornings. But our intel was telling us the refugees were mainly kids. We didn't want to surprise them, and have what happened last time, so this was a rescue mission, where we would go in and out, with no casualties. Aside from the few soldiers who watched the perimeter.

We stopped the truck about a click away from camp and trecked through the bush till we came near their fence line. They had 4 watch towers on each corner of the compound. The plan was to get one of our guys up to one of the towers to take care of the soldier and take over the watch light. Then we would break through the fencing by said tower, and they would beam the light away from us, as we made our way in.

We had a layout of the compound and knew which bunkie the kids were held up in and which the soldiers were in. If everything went as planned we would guide them out and be back to the truck well before the next shift change.

I looked at my watch and it was 4:30 am by the time we reached the fence line.

"Bogie! Your up." Whispered Kipsky.

We stayed crouched to the ground, and during that time, I took in a deep breath and conjured up a field around Bogie.

He was one of our most agile fighters, and had excellent skills with a blade. He and I liked to occasionally show one up from time to time.

He quickly jumped the fence and threw himself directly onto the watch tower, where he quickly made his way up. I watched as he waited for the right time to make his move. Then as the gaurd was facing the other direction, he quickly placed his hand on the front of the man's face before pulling him back into him and slitting his throat. It was quick and over within 2 seconds. He then grabbed the spotlight and took over, cascading the light across the open compound.

We then made our move. Johansson clipped the fence and we made our way in. Intel told us that the bunkie to the right of us, was housing the children, so that's where we went. I could feel my field around my self and the others, and once we got to the children, I would have to incapsule them in one aswell.

We approached the door to the side after the one light beamed off into another direction.

I would be taking the lead. Just as I was about to head in Grayson grabbed my arm.

"Wait!" He whispered.

I looked at him. "What is it?"

"Somethings not right." I watched as he put his ear to the side of the bunkie.

I signalled the men to crouch back down. We only had a few seconds till the light beamed on us again.

Grayson looked focused, then all of a sudden he yelled "Brace!!!!!"

There was no reaction time, all of a sudden the bunkie that we stood next to exploded into a massive fireball, which ingulfed us to the fullest. Thankfully the field was up so, all we would feel was a little bit of heat radiating from the blast. I looked over as the debris hit our fields and the fire roared all around us. I watched as the team were still in a bracing position, but came to quickly realize that they weren't blown up to bits.

I went over to Kipsky.

"You ok!?" I yelled.

He looked terrified but once he heard me talking to him he quickly came back to his alert self.

"Everybody get ready! You know the plan!" I shouted to everyone.

It took a few minutes before the smoke started to decipitate, and the compound what getting slightly easier to see.

We had all laid down, into position. It took a few minutes but I looked up to see foot soldiers making their way into the compound. We would let them think we were dead, and when opportunity showed itself....we would strike.

I could hear several of them approaching. I laid on my back with my one arm tucked underneath me, holding my knife. I felt my field on every single one of my men.

"Over here!" I heard one yell.

"Make sure their dead!" I heard another say.

I watched as one of the men walked over to Kipsky, and pulled the trigger to his semi automatic weapon.

"What the fuck! Sir! There not d-" He was cut off as Kipsky sent a bullet to his head.

We all got up and started firing.

There had to have been a few dozen men. We were shooting them as they were shooting us. All of a sudden, they started retreating back to the fence line.

"RPG!!" I heard Kipksy yell.

I watched as a rocket propelled grenade came from one of the soldiers, and took off towards the tower Bogie was in. I quickly placed a force field in between the two and watched the grenade crash into the invisible wall.

Bogie was a little surprised but quickly came too and continued suppressing fire. I looked back to the remaining soldiers, and saw more trucks quickly pulling up with reinforcements.

"Fuck!"

They were lining up with more RPG's.

"Aim for the RPG's!! Bogie get down from there!" I yelled.

We fired everything we had. We were able to take a few of them out, but a majority of them took cover behind the trucks. It was like an endless barage of bullets hitting our fields, and as I looked over to the team, I could see that they ran out of ammunition.

We were all out and now in the open. The lineman came out and got ready to fire all their RPG's on us.

"Bunker down!!" They braced for impact.

I could feel small impacts of the grenades hitting my field. I felt one after the other, as the flames obstructed my view from them. I quickly looked behind, as they started to surround us. They too started firing on us.

The longer we bunkered down, the risk of my fields weakening jumped through my mind. I wasn't fully 100 percent when we got here, and obviously this was not how this was supposed to go down. I looked over at the men, and I could see one of them on his knees with his hands wrapped up around his ears. It was Grayson. I couldn't imagine what he was hearing right now, but from the look on his face he was screaming in pain. I surveyed the others, and the look of worry and fear filled their faces.

I had to do something! I looked around us one last time, and concluded that I had to release a surge that would wipe out everything.

I looked over at Kipsky and he was yelling at me, but the continuous barrage of bullets and grenades made it impossible to make out what he was saying. I looked at him and saw his reaction as the glow in my eyes began to dance with colour. Something he hasn't seen before.

I strengthened the fields around my men, and I built up the energy surge.

Kipsky's POV

"June! June!" I yelled tirelessly. "June, we need to get out of here!!!"

It was useless, she couldn't hear me. I looked at Johansson, who gave me the nod. As if this was the end and he was giving me his final good bye.

June!!! She finally looked over to me. I kept yelling for her, and I could see she was panting hard.

I kept yelling, then all of a sudden her eyes....lit up. What was happening? Was she going to do a tremor? All of a sudden a different array of colours started dancing around her. The sound of the impacts against the fields started to silence more as they hit.

"June!!!" I yelled again.

The look I saw on her face was one I hadn't seen before. Not like this. She looked fierce, but drained at the same time. June ......what the fuck are you doing.

All of a sudden, all the firing was aimed towards her. I watched as I felt the tremor hit from underneath us, and watched as the soldiers fell to the ground. Then without a warning her body lit up, and let out an enormous wave of energy that quickly exploded all around us.

Even with our fields up, the noise it made as it impacted our shells, was like hearing a nuclear bomb go off in the distance. It happened so fast, but the men that surrounded us vanished within an instant and, I watched as the earth around us leveled to the ground.

It was a matter of seconds, till the noise of the grenades, automatic weapons, and her power surge brought a quiet calm over the compound.

I waited till it was clear before I moved from my spot. I saw as the earth was singed, and not a soldier nor truck or tower was in sight. It was all wiped out.

Then the sound of coughing and panting brought me back to the present. It was June. I ran over to her as she tried to catch her breathe. She was on her knees hunched over, with her hand to her chest.

"June! June." I ran over to her and grabbed her as she fell back wards. Her eyes still had a bit of a glow to them.

"You did it June! Their gone. Whatever you just did......it worked." She laid back into my arms and I watched as the soft glow dimmed down to nothing. Her breathing was still eratic, but seemed to calm down a bit.

I scooped her up, and she just laid limp in my arms as her eyes began to slowly shut.

"I got you June." I told her.

She felt hot to the touch, and her body began to sweat. Whatever she just did, certainly impacted her physically.

"What happened?" Johansson asked as we started trecking back to the vehicle.

"What the fuck does it look like?.........someone tipped them off!" I said angrily.

"I'm sorry!" Grayson came up from the back. I could see blood oozing out his ears.

"They didn't make a sound, so I couldn't detect them. I.....Im sorry Kipsky. I.."

"Don't worry about that now. We just need to get June back." I looked at her once more. Some colour was slowly starting to come back to her face.

Her eyes opened.

"It's ok June. You rest now."
