Chapter 3.
"Wakey wakey." A voice in front of me said.
Then a swift kick to the chair had me jolt up.
"Maaathers." He said tauntingly.
He sat behind the lamp so I couldn't necessarily see his face. The only thing I could make out was some old military dog tags that hung down his chest. I looked around the rest of the room, and saw movement to my right. I couldn't turn all the way around but there was someone sitting behind me. All I could see was their boots.
"Mathers." Again the voice in front of me said. I slowly looked over, as the room was still spinning.
"We're just going to cut to the chase Mathers. We want to know why an Imperium such as yourself is fighting for The Dominion?" He asked.
I couldn't even register what he said. I saw the room growing darker, and felt my body feeling heavy.
"No....no..no we can't have that." He said as he re adjusted me back in the chair.
The light was moved slightly so I wasnt blinded as much anymore.
"Let's try that again." He said. "Why was someone like you in The Dominion?"
What does he mean someone like me? I could see him glancing to the person behind me. I peered over and I was sort of able to make out a face this time. It was a woman. With shoulder length blonde hair. She didn't look at me, but looked at him.
"She's pretty isn't she?" He said.
I looked back to him. This prick is just dicking around.
He sighed. "Again, why would an Imperium like yourself be fighting for General Elias?"
An Imperium?
"Do you know where General Elias is?" He asked again.
What the fuck is this guy talking about?
"So what happens..you get killed and come back to life? Is that how it works?"
What is he talking about? "W.....what?" I said.
"My god! He speaks." The man chuckled. "Okay let's do this one more time."
"Do you know where General Elias is?"
The fuck would I know. That asshole could die for all I care. "N....no." I told him.
"Why did you join, if your an Imperium?"
He keeps calling me that...why? He kept glancing to the woman behind me then back to me.
"Well?" He said.
"You......you keeping calling me an Imperium.....Why?" I asked.
"Cus that's what you are." He said. "So what happens, you die and then come back to life? I mean you took a shot to the leg and throat, no way anyone survives that and lives to talk about it. Not in your condition anyway."
Shot?..........Wait!........then it hit me. Remmy! I quickly looked up to him, after realizing.
"There he is!" He said.
"Remmy! where is he...is he ok?" I said panicked. Again he looked to the woman behind me.
"Who was he to you?" He asked.
"was"
"So I didn't get to him in time." I muttered.
"I'm sorry......but no." He said. I looked to him, I still couldn't make out his face but he sounded....sincere.
"The man you shot. Who was he?"
Someone who deserved it 10 times over I thought. At this point the image of Remmy was playing over in my head and I couldn't hold back the tears that were starting to fall down my cheeks.
"So why did you join?" He asked
"I didn't." I huffed. I was forced into this shitty position. Who the fuck would ever want to do what these people did. Anyone who liked it, deserved death at their door. Again he looked at the woman then back to me.
"Did they know you were an Imperium?"
"You keep calling me that. I'm not an Imperium."
"Well you are....so..." He said.
"If I was an Imperium don't you think I would know that!!" I was getting pissed.
"Well.....should we test it out?"
"Wh-" I didnt even have time to react. I barely even made the gun until I heard the shot go off. I felt a sudden burst of pain hit me in the chest. I looked down, and saw the stain of blood getting bigger and bigger, as it changed my undershirt from a white to scarlet. Then I felt cold and my vision went dark.
............
Raeve looked at his watch then back to Sarah.
"Shit! did we get it wrong?" He looked at the slumped over body. "Sarah what's his first name?"
"It's Rowen." She replied.
"K. Thank you." He looked at him further until he finally saw movement in his chest. Followed by him gasping for air.
Sarah could see the relief that overcame Raeve's hard exterior.
"Rowen! Relax, relax buddy."
He fucking shot me? I looked down to my chest where the blood stained my shirt. I was in full panic.
"The fuck!" I yelled.
"You didn't know?" He asked curiously.
"You fucking shot me!"
"Ya....but your alive....so we're all good." He said.
Was this a fucking joke to him. Did I just fucking die?
"Hmm..you really didn't know." He looked back to the woman behind me again.
"Okay...I believe you." He got got from the chair and took the restraints off my wrists.
"I'm just going to step outside with my lady friend here, and I'll be right back." He told me.
I watched as the two made their way out of the room. I quickly lifted up the blood soaked shirt to see where he shot me, and all that remained was a scar. It was weird. There was no pain, and even my head wasn't hurting anymore. My vision was back to normal, and the nauseating feeling had totally subsided. It was like I was.......reset.
Is this really happening?
Wait......did he call me Rowen?
................
"Okay Sarah....what did you get?" I asked.
"His name is Rowen Mathers. 30 years old, and came from Bolton. It looks like he was forced under the mandate to join, so he had no choice in the matter. He doesnt have any idea where General Elias is, and from what I could hear, he hates the guy and everything he stands for. He was also looking after the boy Remmy, and got real close to him. I sense he has more of a nurturing personality, as he was also studying to becoming a medical practioner. In terms of his ability, he truley didn't know. I believe his first death was at the compound, and from the look of it.. He doesn't heal rapidly like Jefferson does. Once he dies, he comes back fully healed. He didn't feel the same like he did before you shot him. Also..." She paused..
"What?" I asked.
"He called you a prick." She said.
"Hmmm I see.......so he thinks I'm a prick eh?" I looked over and gave her a smile.
"Thank you Sarah for all your help. It is of most value. I'm glad you came along." I told her.
She had a small smile creep on her face, which is the first I've seen since she showed up. Her and Cam weren't doing so well since a couple months ago, and she thought it be best to take a break from that and get more involved with the movement. Which was wonderful because her ability came in most handy, especially in situations like this.
"How about you head on back to base, we'll be right behind you." She nodded and started heading back.
I went back into the shed that we converted into an interrogation room, and saw Rowen lost in thought. The guy just learned he was an Imperium, and everything leading up to this point came crashing down in a matter of minutes. I kind of felt bad for him.
"Rowen." I said. He looked up to me. "Let's go for a walk."
