Immortals Of Byolla Bay

Chapter 25 – Rikki

I was back home. I recognized the stone hallway that led out to mother’s garden immediately. I followed it to find Magnhild at the blue orchids, trimming the leaves and humming to herself. She had not seen me approach yet.

On the other side, I seen someone watching her, Trygve. What’s he doing here? I called out to Magnhild, but there was no sound when I yelled. “Relax, Prince Eerikki, I’m just making sure she is safe.” Trygve laughed evilly.

“You cannot have her. She is not going anywhere. I’ll not let you take her.” I finally found my voice and strode forward, drawing my sword. That’s when I heard my angel’s voice, “But Rikki, what if I want to go with him? He said I belong to him and I need to come home. I came to tell you goodbye.” I turned to look at Mag, but it was no longer her standing there, it was Kinsley.

Suddenly I remembered everything. I shouldn’t be here, what’s going on? This isn’t right. Trygve’s helmet covered his eyes and nose, but his mouth was uncovered, and I seen it twist into a sneer, “She’s coming with me, Eerikki. Drakkar has major plans for her.”

Kinsley pushed past me and took Trygve’s outstretched hand. She waved goodbye to me as she turned to face him. Before I could do anything, they vanished leaving me screaming Kinsley’s name.

I was shaken awake by Kinsley. “Rikki I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere, I’m not leaving you. I could never leave you alone. Not now, not ever.”

Her words warmed my heart and I reached for her, pulling her to my chest. “I’m sorry, my love. It was a dream, or a nightmare rather. So you’d never leave me?”

I felt her move her head below my chin, “Never. I woke up this morning and everything seemed right, it’s like my life had purpose and I was ready to start my day because I would be with you. What was your dream about?”

Sighing, I answered her, “You left me, to make a long story short. You went with Trygve to Drakkar.” She made a sound of disgust, “Yeah like that would ever happen.” I wrapped my arms around her perfectly content when I heard Mag knock on the door, then march right in. “Good morning, you two! So just letting you know, Meshella just pulled in the driveway.”

Kinsley ran down the stairs to open the front door and hug her friend, who looked like she’d seen better days. I knew she was going to feel like hell today. Mag and I walked outside and joined them.

“Thank you guys so much for taking care of me last night and taking care of Kinsley. I woke up and freaked out because she wasn’t at my house so I was hoping she’d be here. I just didn’t want some guy taking advantage of her or something while I’m too plastered to notice. You guys are great! Well dear, since I know you are okay, I’m going back to my bed and sleeping for 6 years. Man I had way too much last night. Oh, and hey Maggie can we get together sometime next week and discuss what we are going to do about Kinsley’s birthday? It’s in two weeks on the 5th of next month.”

Maggie squealed a yes in excitement which caused Meshella to groan and grab her head, “Not so loud girl, my head feels like it’s been hit with a 2 X 4, but I’m glad you are on board. I’ll see you Monday.” She gave Kinsley a hug and walked to her car.

We waved as she drove off and Maggie darted to Kinsley with her hands on her hips, “So just when were you going to tell me, hmm? We have to plan you a proper party! You weren’t even going to let us know your birthday was coming up, were you?” Kinsley looked like a child that has been scolded, “Well it slipped my mind with everything that had went on. I just didn’t think it was important.”

Maggie softened, “Honey, no matter if it’s the end of the world, your birthday is still important. You are my friend and I want to celebrate your special day in the most dramatic, eye catching, extravagant way possible.” Kinsley burst out laughing, “I don’t suppose I could talk you into a small get together at home could I?” Maggie smiled and hugged her, “Not a chance, especially with Meshella helping me. I’m going to go get started now.” Maggie then skipped away leaving Kinsley shaking her head exasperated at the whirlwind that is my sister.

We walked in the kitchen to the smell of bacon and pancakes. Mother was cooking for Kinsley again it seemed. Gene came through the back sliding glass door, “Your mother just left for her job at the grocery store I believe.” Kinsley nodded, “Yeah she picked up an early shift today. That’s good. I need to text her and see if she needs me to make dinner tonight or not.”

I know she hasn’t seen her mother in two days and needs to go home, but my chest started feeling heavy at the thought of her not being with me tonight. I knew she had to go back, but I didn’t expect it to be today I guess. Mother put Kinsley’s plate in front of her along with blueberry syrup and orange juice. Kinsley immediately dug in and I felt a little guilty for not thinking of her needs before my own.

She’s human, and she’s seventeen. Therefore her body needs food and she’s a girl who also needs her mother. It would have been selfish of me to ask her to stay with me and make her mother worry about her and vice versa. Father, mother and Gene had been taking turns watching her house and making sure Drakkar didn’t show his face again. Tonight I’ll just take the shift to watch her house, that way I can still be with her, and she with me because she may be human, but the binding fire that links our souls affects her, too and she may not be able to sleep if I’m away.

Kinsley finished her plate and thanked my mother. She smiled, “No dear, thank you for giving me an excuse to use my kitchen yet again. It’s been a pleasure.” Kinsley then turned to me, “Rikki, do you want to come to dinner tonight and meet my mom?” My mother beamed with joy behind her and before I could answer she said, “Yes! Yes he does. You go see your mother and he will come over when you call him. Maggie! Will you go with

Kinsley to the store to make sure she gets there without any...setbacks.”

Kinsley giggled at my mother’s response. Maggie bounded down the stairs and grabbed the keys to mother’s car. “I’ll be in the car, girl.” Mother smiled and skipped out of the kitchen.

Smiling, I wrapped Kinsley in my arms and kissed her gently, “I would love to come eat dinner with you and your mother. Please be safe. I’ll be with you again soon, though I will miss you terribly in the mean time.” I kissed her again and walked her to the car, watching as Maggie pulled away with my whole world in the passenger seat.
