Chapter 73: The two pests have been wiped out.
I mean, he was able to convince Aoi and his mother that he wasn't some evil spirit that had possesed her son's body with some tale that he had come up on the spot.
Now that he thought about the story he had told, it sounded absolutely ridiculous. But well, I guess it did tally out with his sudden powers and change of behavior.
But still, their sudden interrogation built up apprehension towards his mother and Aoi within him. His power was still in it's budding stage within Lyria, and if his mother out of doubt ordered the army to kill him or imprison him, all his plans would come crashing down.
Sure, he could probably escape Lyria with the help of his system, Rae, but then what?
Where would he go? What would he do?
He would have to start from scratch in another kingdom, which would make all his plans go to waste. The difficulty in conquering another kingdom where he has no base is also much harder than just establishing his power in a kingdom where he atleast has some recognition and power.
But he had to approach his 'mom'. Or else he might face some resistance and backlash from the knights if he just put Ethan or Arnold as the commander on his own volition. First, as much as he did not want to admit it, their backlash would have good reasons.
After all, both Ethan and Arnold looked very young. I mean all the knights were burly uncles, and to them both Ethan and Arnold would look like young kids. They would have a very valid question to ask.
'Venerable King, are you really telling me that these young ones who look like they just started growing hair down there are eligible to lead all of us knights? Do they even have the experience required to lead a godd*mn troop of knights? You sure that they won't just piss their pants and faint when they see the brutality that happens on the battlefield?'
I mean, he couldn't just say that they were cannibals and that they love blood, could he? Cannibalism was not a concept that existed in this world. He was sure that the knights would be absolutely disgusted and revolted and just pure shocked that someone would eat humans.
Then they would probably accuse the two brothers to be demons and then accuse me to be the incarnation of evil to actually let those two brothers live and even suggest them as their new commander.
No thank you, he would not prefer that happening.
The knights would probably just try to kill him on the spot. And yeah, any sane person would rather want that such a thing did not happen.
Suddenly, the sound of doors opening entered Harry's ears. He opened his eyes and looked at the people who entered.
"Is it done?", he asked.
Ethan said while bowing down, "Yes, Your Majesty, the two pests have been wiped out."
Harry nodded and mumbled to himself, "Now, after their body is discovered, it would be time for me to go to my mom, huh?"
--------------
Erllin could be considered as a pretty prominent hunter in Lyria. He was talking with a few more prominent hunters, all bragging about their achievements.
An argument was going on amongst two hunters about how many monsters they had hunted, while the other hunters were watching their argument attentively. If popcorn existed in that world, the hunters who were spectating the argument would definitely be eating it while watching their argument.
"Oh, you could only hunt one monster yesterday? I hunted three!"contemporary romance
"You work in a team with other hunters for godd*amn's sake! I'm sure that that is the tally of your team's collective kills!"
"That's still more than you, isn't it?!"
"What part do you not get?! You work in a team while I work solo!"
"We are talking about kills aren't we? How does it matter if I work in a team and you work solo?!"
The spectating hunters had glints of excitement in their eyes, like aunties who were gossiping, as their argument had just reached a crucial juncture. Both of them looked like they would start fighting any second now.
The atmosphere became tense as the two hunters glared at each other, and just when they were going to punch each other, a panicky voice shouted, "Hunters, we need your help!"
All the hunters turned around and looked at the villagers who had come to them. The man in the lead said with panic and anxiety, "Hunters, two robbers attacked the house of the apprentice healer! Two knights went to apprehend the robbers, but have not returned even though it has been a considerable amount of time since when they went!"
Erlinn would have normally teased the people who had come to them for help by saying things like, 'What's in it for us?', or, 'How much will you pay if we help you?', but he did not say anything now as he knew that this wasn't a matter about which he could joke around.
He nodded and said with a solemn and grave tone, "Don't worry, I'm sure that the knights would have kept things in control. We too will come and provide some backup to the knights in case something may have gone wrong."
If it was in any other city or town, the people would have probably approached the knights that were stationed there, but in Lyria, a place where there were absolutely no knights till recently, the people instinctively approached the group of people with the greatest fighting prowess - the hunters.
