Chapter 73
Mason sat in the car, taking a moment to relax with his eyes closed. Suddenly, he remembered what Aiden had mentioned about that student who married her Romeo.
Mason thought of Zoe again and their long-time acquaintance.
'Did she feel the same way when she married me? That she married her Romeo with a lifetime of companionship?"
Although Mason had a steady temperament, he felt a bit restless about Zoe's situation lately.
He dialed his assistant's number, asking, "How's the task I assigned you?"
The reply came promptly, “Mr. Mason, I've already contacted Mr. Liam. In the next 12 hours, Mr. Liam's flight will land at the Brookesville International Airport. He will immediately join the legal team to handle Noah's case.”
Mason inquired in a calm tone, "How certain is he?"
There was a brief silence on the other end before the response. "Mr. Liam quoted a sky-high fee of 300 thousand. He said that he is hundred percent confident.”
Mason trusted Liam's capabilities. After hanging up, he intended to rest his eyes, as there was an important engagement at noon. However, he found himself opening the photo album and selecting a picture.
It was a photo of Zoe.
It was taken a long time ago while she slept, not long after their marriage. He often teased Zoe until she cried and eventually fell asleep from exhaustion. Her porcelain-like face and lustrous black hair lay against the snowy white pillow, radiating a pure and tempting beauty. Back then, Mason didn't particularly like her, but for some inexplicable reason, he had taken this photo. Even during business trips lasting ten days or more, he would occasionally take it out and reminisce. Once, he couldn't resist the temptation, and that sensation still lingered in his memory.
Mason added a passcode to the photo, thinking perhaps this was the dark side of men.
No man was exempted from being lustful.
At nine o'clock in the evening, Zoe sat on the couch, quietly watching the news about the return of the chief lawyer, Liam Worshem. The TV screen displayed Liam's high-profile appearance, declaring his return to the legal field.
The handsome yet stern face of Liam faced the microphone as he declared, "Fame and fortune are not the most important to me. For me, the justice of the law is a lifelong pursuit.”
Zoe listened absentmindedly, understanding that this was what Mason wanted her to see. He wanted her to know that only he could bring Liam back, and only he could ensure her brother's case had hope. Of course, if she didn't go back with him, all of this would be revoked.
The next time Liam appeared on television, he would have a different script.
This was the truth.
Her phone rang. It was a call from Mia.
After answering, Mia couldn't contain her joy. “Zoe, did you see the news? Mr. Liam is back! There's hope for your brother's case."
Her voice softened. "Regardless, we'll do our best! Zoe, I know you're going through a tough time... Your dad and I can live frugally, and once your dad's health improves, I can find a job to support the family. As long as your brother comes out, everything will be okay."
Mia spoke, tears streaming down her face.
She felt sorry for Zoe.
After all, she had watched the child grow up.
Zoe remained expressionless.
She didn't reveal the truth to Mia. She simply comforted her in a hoarse voice, "Mia, don't worry. Tell Dad to rest assured too. I will definitely get Mr. Liam to help my brother with the lawsuit."
Mia cried tears of joy.
