Chapter 125
Mason's eyes grew darker. So, it turned out she knew he was coming here all along. Taking a step forward, he grabbed her arm and was about to say something when she cut him off.
"Don’t touch me!”
She shook him off fiercely and took a step back before looking at him, “You said you weren't going to meet her again, Mason. You told me you had a shareholders’ meeting to attend tonight! It turns out, however, that you've been with her all this time!
“What am I to you, Mason? What is our marriage to you? Do your promises even mean anything?”
He grabbed her arm again. Frowning, he muttered, “Cut it out, now!” She sneered in response. She hadn't even done anything too outrageous and yet he asked her to cut it out.
What was the point of all this? What right did she have to make a scene?
Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at her own husband.
“I wouldn't have cared how you cheated on me or acted lovey-dovey in public with her if you hadn't told me all those things. You said you loved me. You said you wanted to start over.
“You probably don't know this, but you gross me out every time you come near to me ever since I found out you were still mingling with her. You're so filthy I can’t stand you any longer, Mason!”
His face grew grim at that. Pulling her close, he whispered in her ear, "You said I'm filthy and yet you moaned with pleasure every time we did it. Are you forgetting that?"
He lifted her chin and forced her to look at him.
Underneath the crystal chandelier, her skin glowed, and yet her eyes were teary. Her light green eyeliner shone as she blinked. He touched it and snorted lightly, “I know I lied to you, Zoe, but it'd seem you haven't been completely honest with me either! That makes us even.”
Pushing him away, she straightened herself out. It wasn't worth it to waste more breath on them. She had an important private party to attend, after all. What's more, she needed to perform before the prestigious figures in the music industry.
At that moment, David came out to welcome them. He saw Zoe and greeted her warmly, “Why haven't you come inside, Zoe? Aiden has been expecting you. He was just talking about you to the other guests. Everyone wants to meet you!”
She smiled faintly in response. “Hi, David. I'll be over in a minute.”
At the next moment, David acted as if he had just seen Mason and Lilith. He asked, as though puzzled, “Aren't you married to Zoe, Mason? Why are you Lilith's plus one? Aren't you concerned about gossip?”
Mason responded coldly, “So you knew Zoe all along!”
The two men squared up against each other and looked ready to launch into a fierce discussion.
Meanwhile, Lilith was sitting in her wheelchair, looking pale. She had given up so much for the private party tonight. She had even put on a diaper just so she could wear the dress she had on right now.
She assumed she'd be the star of the show tonight. Little did she know that Zoe would steal the limelight from her. The moment she saw Zoe, she knew. There was no point in her trying to become Aiden’s mentee now.
It turned out that Zoe was the mentee he had been searching for!
All of a sudden, Lilith gripped the hem of her dress and struggled to speak.
“It hurts. It hurts so much, Mason! Please, send me back to the hospital!”
Lowering his head, he looked at her.
Beads of sweat dotted her forehead and her face was devoid of color. He bent down and picked her up without any hesitation before making a beeline to the elevator.
The elevator door opened and closed and he didn't bother looking at Zoe once.
Zoe watched as her husband carried another lady in his arms. There was love and care in his eyes when he looked at Lilith. He had all but forgotten that he had a wife and that he was a married man.
How did she ever think that Mason actually loved her?
She had been such a fool.
David couldn't help but sigh when he saw the whole thing. Looking at Zoe, he asked, “Do you need some time to yourself? Should we do this another day? Aiden can tell everybody that you ran into some unforeseen circumstances on your way here.”
