Chapter 19
JENNIFER'S POV
The ride to the chief minister's residence was a 30 minute silent affair. Except of some questions thrown to me from my soon-to-
be-father-in-law Sumit Prakash. They were all my job oriented questions, so I was quite at ease. All the way though, I found
myself avoiding the lustfull bulgy eyes of Mr. Prakash Jr. Soon, we entered the Rajpath Marg, the colony were all the
administrative, political delegates resided.
It was posh, each succeeding house better than the previous one. The houses... no, the mansions were all present in an
organized honeycomb structure. Each mansion, having a fountain at the entrance and a big patch of garden. Soon, we reached
the end of the lane. The car stopped there. I shifted my gaze from my left side to the right, to view the other side through the
window. And what I saw was a sight to behold.
This, was not at all a mansion, it was a palace! All of it decorated with golden and silver lights. The gates itself were
great, grand, gigantic and...... Well, the sight was something out of the world.
I could literally feel my jaw touching the ground. What the hell was happening in my life!? I was a commoner till yesterday! But
today, seeing my current position, I highly doubted that now. If a few monthes ago, someone would have said me that one day, I
would be eating in the house of the chief minister on his expense, I would have given that person Dr. Patel's number, our
psychiatrist in HOPE.
But look at me, my fate! I was feeling like that poor goat which is fed a lot, taken care of, pampered before actually getting
slaughtered.
Ignoring my dumbstruck expression, Mayank took my hand and tugged me out of the Audi. I couldn't fight his hand now in front
of his father so I didn't appear reluctant. We stood there at the gate, while the valet took the keys of the car. Once done, the
security guards scanned us for any possible weapons hid in the folds. On finding none, they let us in.
I was gaping my surroundings like an idiot. I was mesmerized by the variety of roses growing in the garden. I made a mental
note of slipping away from the party and come there after some time to get some fresh air. The house was like the Victoria
Memorial of Calcutta. Spendid! There was a grand fountain located at the centre of the path meeting the palace. Having, four
fountains combining together and splashing the water in the shape of a swan. At their base were beautiful pink lotuses floating. I
really wanted to stop, turn, move to the lotuses and kiss them, feel their soft petals against my lips. But ofcourse, I didn't want to
look like a douchebag, so quietly I followed Sumit Prakash, with my hand still in Mayank's grip. We reached the wooden doors of
the palace. I quickly wiggled my hand out of his grip and further swat his hand away when he tried to place it on my lower back.
The doors were well polished, with carvings of royal elephants on it and flowers at the borders, giving the entrance it's majestic
look.
If the entrance itself is so alluring, what expectations should I keep with the interior design?
I thought mentally
Then, as Sumit Prakash knocked on the door, I noticed the marble carving at the side of the door.
"THE DHOOPARS"
It read.
I was really looking forward on how this evening of mine was going to pass....
