Historical Holograms From A Runaway Punk

Chapter Hologram Recording Transcript: September 5, 2098

It has been a few days, and the city is bustling with repair work, trying to recover from all the earthquake damage. Mayor Sye was nowhere to be found. Zi-Yen brought Nami back to her city, so she could see that the wall was gone.

Earlier today, Ivan visited us, and he had a little rider hanging onto his back; it was a little girl with big brown eyes, curly brown hair, and caramel-colored skin.

Ivan noticed the crumbled wall and nodded in agreement, “That didn’t last very long, did it?”

“Now you can stay,” I told him.

He shook his head “no” and said, “Can’t.” He motioned to the little girl sitting behind him for her to get down.

“Why not?” I asked.

“Well…gotta get the children; that’s my new mission.” He waved to Nami to get the little girl.

“This little one, I call her Latina Rey, came from old Mexico. Doesn’t talk,” said Ivan.

Nami asked the little girl, “Tu Habla Espanol?”

She nodded her head yes.

“Now you and Zi-Yen gotta promise me one thing when running this city, if ever you see anybody hitting a child, you rescue that child. You understand me?”

I noticed the bruises covering the little girl’s arms and legs while Nami gave Ivan a horrified look. He nodded to her as if he knew what was in her mind and didn’t want to say anything more.

“I’ll be back for sure; you can count on it,” said Ivan.

I ran to him and gave him a big hug. He said, “Yup, you gotta big job as the Matriarch now.”

“I know,” I said, smiling at him, happy to be following in a great woman’s footsteps.

When Ivan drove away, I didn’t see the little girl known as Latina Rey walk up behind me. She surprised me by gently nudging my hand with her small one, grabbing ahold of it as she waved goodbye to Ivan. Then we both waved goodbye to Ivan.
