His Unwanted Wife Again

Chapter Chapter Seven

Unedited.

Present.

Later, after the school day was over, she arrived home to find the mail on the table with her name written on it in Clarissa's handwriting.

Clarissa nor anyone else in his family has spoken to Sabrina since Nathan left. She thought about Alyssa, Dylan, Emmie, and Matthew very often. She gently opens the letter and begins reading.

Dear Sabrina.

I know that you and Nathan aren't on good terms. I wish it were different. That being said, You've never done anything negative to me or my children. They still love you very much....so I'm inviting you to Matthews's third birthday party. Don't worry Nathan won't be there. It's at our home Saturday the 18th. It starts at 11 am sharp. Don't be late, Matthew, Dylan, Alyssa, and Emmie are excited to see you. Clarissa.

She wanted to see those kids a lot but didn't want to cause any problems at Matthews's party. Clarissa had a tendency of having bad ideas, but she wanted to see them desperately. They must have grown so much. Maybe she'll just go drop off a gift and visit Auden's grave.

Past

"Please give him a message for me." Sabrina says to Anthony leaving yet another message.

It was mostly please call me back, or let me explain. She was going to try something different today, hoping he calls back.

"Of course," He says sweetly.

"Tell him it's not true."

"No problem." Says Anthony. "I'll give him the message."

She hangs up the phone feeling disappointed.

Mariel, Gracie, and Sabrina were sitting around the kitchen counter, still in their pajamas, and eating too much sugar. They had three spoons in a container of strawberry ice cream in the center, and cookies, cakes, candy, and bags of chips scattered around.

"I don't know what I'm going to do. If I get divorce papers I might faint." She stuffs a big scoop of ice cream in her mouth.

Mariel and Gracie both give sympathetic looks. They've exhausted every piece of hopeful advice they could offer.

"Maybe you should give him some time?" Gracie spoons ice cream in her mouth. She was away at school when she heard about her sister's troubles and rushed to be there for her.

"I would if I did something wrong. I need to at least get to plead my case. He needs to know that I would never do that to him. He must be so hurt."

Mariel was quiet. She didn't know what to tell her daughter to do. "I have to get ready for my night shift." She gets up and leaves the table.

"She's really stressed out over this," Gracie whispers so her mother couldn't hear them. Mariel hated it when her children were unhappy.

"I know, I have to somehow overcome this. I need to be strong for her. I just can't give up on Nathan, Gracie. Especially not when I know I'm innocent." Her voice became softer. "I don't know if he will ever give me the time of day." "What about Judd? Did you ask him to clear things up with Nathan?"

"No." She says firmly. No way. The best way I can prove to Nathan that there's nothing between us is to never see, or speak to him again."

"Yeah, you might be right. Then there will be another picture of the two of you on the front page this time."

Just then Sabrina's phone rings. For the just one millisecond that it took to shift her eyes to her phone laying on the table, she thought it might have been Nathan calling her back. It wasn't, it was their lawyer. Well, he wasn't her lawyer anymore.

She drops her spoon. "Hello." She shouldn't have been so excited but she hoped maybe it was some positive news.

"Sabrina."Says frank. A grey-haired man in his mid-50s.

"Yes."

"I'm very sorry to hear about you Nathan's spilt."

Her heart drops. Good news definitely wasn't coming after that statement.

"Thank you." She didn't know what else to say.

"So, moving forward you know that it is a conflict of interest to represent both of you."

"I know."

"I'm glad you understand."

She looks at Gracie and rolls her eyes. She wished she didn't answer.

"Everything okay?" Gracie's mouths.

She nods her head.

"100% of Alden enterprises will revert back to Nathan. Are you aware of that?"

"Yes." She wasn't but, who cares?

"And you're aware that it's because of a breach of contract? Illicit affairs."

"I had no affairs." She wanted to scream.

"We can settle this the easy way, or the hard way. The proof is in the paper. Let's not do this through the courts. We both know the media will have fun with this one, and not only that, you will lose."

"Don't worry, I don't want not evens the smallest piece of Alden enterprises" She knew exactly what he was getting at. He was a complete shark when it came to money. "But I will not admit to something that I didn't do." "The divorce papers Nathan has me drawing up will say illicit affairs."

"I won't sign it then."

"Mrs. Alden. Or should I say Reed now."

Ouch! that burn. She cuts him off. "Please just tell Nathan that I'm innocent. The picture was horrible but it wasn't what it looked like."

"You were in the arms of his cousin. What explanation could there be?"

Both Gracie and Sabrina raise an eyebrow at the same time.

"Just give him the message." She ends the call. Present.

She never did sign the papers. She refuses to admit illicit affairs, and he refuses to change the divorce documents. If he'd just change it she would sign it. She knew there was no way they could be together again. She just felt like if she signed it, it would be like admitting guilt, and she's not guilty. Pretty much stuck in limbo again.

The Day Of Matthews Party Present.

A warm breeze blew across the cemetery. Sabrina had been standing in the same spot for the past 30 minutes staring at Auden's headstone. She and Nathan had a marble statue of an angel with wings that expanded three feet specially made for him.

As they were driving to the headstone place to pick out one, Sabrina had told Nathan that Auden was always going to be her angel. She knew that he was going to watch over her, and that's how he came up with the idea for the headstone. "Mommy loves you, baby boy."

She rubs her hand over the lettering over his name. It had been a couple of months since she visited his grave, seeing as how it was a plane ride away. When she arrived in Brentwood she visited the house Nathan and her shared. He wanted nothing to do with it. He signed it over in her name and mailed the deed to her mother's house. She had no idea what to do with it and didn't have the slightest clue how to maintain it, or how much it would cost. She defiantly couldn't afford it. She thought about just selling it. It would be close to 9 million dollars in her bank account. She couldn't even make the first step to call a realtor. It was money she felt didn't belong to her, and if she did sell it, it would be like truly giving up on Nathan.

The sun was beginning to set so Sabrina hops into the cab she had waiting and gives him Clarissa's address. She was going to drop off presents for the children and let them know how much she misses them. She purposely waited until the party was soon to be over. She knew that her being there was going to create a scene, and she was trying to make it as small as possible. She just badly wanted to see the kids.

As the taxi pulled into the driveway she noticed a few cars still parked in the driveway. She began feeling like coming there might have been a bad idea. So much so that she almost told the driver to turn around, but decided she would at least drop off the gifts. She gives the driver his money and was about to make her way to the front door when she hears children's laughter coming from the back yard. The house was huge and had a connecting path from the front yard to the back yard. She follows the path to the back.

She squints her eyes trying to find Alyssa, Dylan, Emmie, or Matthew. It was decorated in an Elmo theme. Balloons and streamers. It looked like mostly everyone had already gone home.

Her eyes stop and reverse to a group of children sitting at a table. She sees Dylan and Alyssa. They have gotten so big. She wanted to run towards, put her arms around them, and squeeze until their eyes popped out.

She grips on to her gifts bags and slowly walks toward the table. She would just talk to them for a bit, drop off the presents, and leave.

"Alyssa...Dylan." She opens her arms, gift bags, and all.

Without a word, they get up from their chairs and run into her arms.

Both children began shaking in her arms. Sabrina squeezes them. "Please don't cry."

"We missed you so much." Dylan's voice was a horse with tears.

"I know, I miss you too."

Dylan lets up and finally lets Sabrina see that cute face. He was wearing a white dress suit with a bow tie. She wipes his tear with her free hand. "Don't you look handsome." He smiles and rubs his eyes.

She looks over at Alyssa still crying in her shoulder. She wore an orange-flowered dress and had her hair curled. "Oh honey...I'm here now, there's no sense crying."

Alyssa nods her head and wipes her eyes. "Are you staying long?" She sniffles.

Sabrina gives the girl an, I'm sorry look but could hardly let a word come out of her mouth.

"Auntie Sabrina?"

She turns to see Emmie standing behind her. They hug as soon as their eyes meet. She no longer looked like a baby anymore. She looked like a little girl. "I've missed you." She says in her hair. "Why are you so bad?"

Sabrina froze. "What?"

"Sabrina."

She looks up to see Clarissa standing before her. She was wearing a dark green and white sundress.

"Clarissa." She stands up and puts her hand out. "Thank you for inviting me."

Clarissa reaches out and gives Sabrina a hug. "We thought you weren't coming."

"I had to see them."

When they pull apart Sabrina looks around the yard and realizes that everyone was watching her. All of Nathan's family. Of course, they all hated her, and think she's a cheating slut.

"Don't worry about them." Clarissa puts her hand around her shoulder and guides her to a nearby bench.

As they sit, Emmie jumps on Sabrina's lap and Alyssa and Dylan sit at her sides.

"Where's the birthday boy?"

"Sleeping. He's had way too much fun."

"I wish I could have been there." She looks down at the kids.

All three children held onto her as if their lives depended on it. They had spent a lot of weekends at her and Nathan's place.

Once everything happened she just stopped seeing them cold turkey. She wondered often if they missed her, or what they must have heard about her, if they would listen to it, and begin to hate her. But they didn't seem to hate her at all.

"I really do appreciate you letting me spend some time with them." She glances up at some family members who refused to stop glaring at her.

Clarissa follows her eyes and then looks back at Sabrina. "Maybe you'd like to come inside, have something to eat, and have some one on one time with them.

"I'd love that."

"Yah!" All three of the kids scream and begin running toward the house.

Sabrina was about to stand until Clarissa grabs her arms. "I should probably let you know... Nathan is here."
