Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Charlie still didn't find Lauren!
He had been looking for Lauren in the subway but couldn't find her. His handsome face showed exhaustion and irritation. He wiped the sweat off his forehead, looked at the patterns on the walls, and laughed.
How could it be her? Charlie asked himself.
She was smart so as long as she wanted to hide from him, he couldn't find her. Thinking of her, Charlie was depressed, and his black eyes were full of desolation.
It had been four years! Where the hell was she? Didn't she miss him at all? Charlie thought. Even if she didn't miss him, she
should miss Leo, her son!
It was seven o'clock and the banquet held by the Bennett family was about to begin. There were also some media.
Usually, the banquet held by the wealthy was all about business, so they rarely invited the media, but this time, it was different. The Bennett family wanted to officially introduce Lauren, who had just returned to this family, so they needed the reporters to
publicize the news.
A group of reporters toured around, but they didn't see Lauren so they started discussing in private. "How do you think of Lauren Bennett? Will she be better than Sally Bennett?" one of the reporters asked. "She could not be compared with Sally at all! Sally is one of the best young ladies in the city. She often does charity. I don't think
Lauren would be as good as Sally."
"I agree. Even if Lauren Bennett graduated from the best college in the city, she has a humble background. In terms of insight and vision, she must not be comparable to Sally," another said.
"She is just a joke of the Bennett family! Ha ha~" The reporters couldn't wait to see Lauren.
The banquet was about to begin.
But Lauren still didn't arrive and Mrs. Bennett was so anxious that her face even turned red. She called Wendy many times. She
must find Lauren because today's banquet was a very important event for her.
The banquet would start at eight o'clock, and Mr. Bennett senior would lead Lauren downstairs.
Now it was 7:45pm, but Lauren was still not here.
On the other side, Wendy looked at her phone in her hands, daring not to pick up the phone called from Mrs. Bennett. She bit her lips hard. She didn't know how to explain Lauren's disappearance. Mrs. Bennett would kill her if she told Mrs. Bennett that she told Lauren to take the subway to attend the dinner party.
As long as Mrs. Bennett heard this, she must know that Wendy was lying to her. No matter what happened, she should not let Lauren take the subway to go to the banquet. This was a grave dereliction of duty for Wendy.
Wendy looked at the constantly vibrating phone and finally broke down, squatting on the ground and crying. She picked up the phone with trembling hands. "Wendy, why didn't you answer the phone?" Mrs. Bennett's question came from the other side of the phone. This was the first time that Wendy saw her so angry.
"Ma'am," Wendy wiped her tears and said, "I'm sorry. I can't find Lauren."
"What?" Mrs. Bennett was shocked, and she even wanted to question Wendy in person about why would Lauren disappear. But it was not the time to hold Wendy accountable. They should find Lauren as soon as possible.
Mrs. Bennett suppressed her anger and tried to calm herself, saying, "Tell me, what is going on?"
