Chapter 30
Kyle ran around searching for Jaden until he entered the gymnasium seeing Sarah tied up with ropes at the pull up bar and a firemen’s ax floating closely in front of her.
“Sarah!” he said starting to run to her.
“Make one more move to her or your girlfriend dies!”
Kyle turned his head seeing Jaden sitting comfortably on the bleachers rows above the floor.
“Kyle!” Sarah cried seeing the ax close to her.
Kyle quickly turned his for a second and said, “Everything will be okay, Sarah.”
“Wow what a touching moment. And yet you are still failing to see the bigger picture. Coming here was our birthright. We are superior in every way to humans, you know it and I know it, instead we are made to feel like we don’t belong. We have all this power and we aren’t allowed to use it. Doesn’t seem fair does it?”
“But I would have been able to tell right away you were Terran. How did you manage?”
Jaden held up his finger showing off his ring. “It’s an inhibitor. Helped me pass off as just another regular human. Little gift from my father.”
“So this whole time. Changing your name. The pep rally. Becoming my friend. Getting your band of buddies to recruit Dan into your group,” Kyle questioned. “That was all you?”
“Yeah,” he replied. “Your father took away my uncle. Ruined his vision of a new Terran order. He was like a second father to me. Ever since then we made it our goal to restore what was lost to us.”
“Nobody should have that much power!” Kyle bellowed. “You have no right!”
“I have every right!” Jaden exclaimed. “We were here first!”
“Leave her out of this! She hasn’t done anything to you!” he exclaimed, waving to Sarah.” She’s not a part of this!”
“I don’t think so.”
The ax moved closer mere inches away from Sarah’s head as Kyle struggled creasing his forehead pulling the ax away from her making it drop to the floor.
“You’re stronger than I took you for,” Jaden said letting out a deep breath. “Let’s take this to the field. Time for the end game.”
Jaden quickly jumped down the rest of the bleachers running out as Kyle quickly ran over to Sarah untying her.
“Are you alright?” Kyle asked concerned.
“I’m sorry. He grabbed me outside.”
“Let’s get you out of here.”
From the front doors opened everyone looked to see Kyle walking out cradling Sarah by his side until he spotted Jason amongst the crowd.
“Jason!”
Jason ran forward seeing how Kyle held Sarah by his side in his arms.
“What happened to her?” he said his brow furrowing.
“Did everyone get out safely?” Kyle asked.
“Yeah, everyone is gone. What’s going on?”
“No time to explain right now. Can you look after Sarah?”
Kyle handed her off to Jason wrapping his arm around her back.
“Yeah, sure thing but where you going?”
“The football field. And hopefully putting an end to all of this.”
“I don’t want to lose you Kyle,” she said hugging him quickly.
“I’ll be alright. Just stay with Jason for me. I can’t risk you getting hurt because of me.”
By the time Kyle had reached the football field, he could see Jaden standing at the other end in front of the goal post.
“You can’t stop us Kyle,” he bellowed. “You might as well give up now.”
“I’m not going to let you hurt anyone.”
From the front of the school, Michael’s car came to a screeching halt where Michael and Jennifer stopped in front of the crowd of students just as Dan and Alan walked into the crowd finding Sarah but not Kyle.
“Where’s Kyle?” Dan asked her.
“He went to the football field,” Sarah said teary eyed, standing close to Jason and Grace. “Jaden took me and used me to bait Kyle.”
“Where are the others?” Michael asked turning his attention to Dan and Alan.
“They’ve been taken care of,” Dan said reassuringly.
“We have to help our son, Michael,” Jennifer said pleadingly.
“Right,” he said looking at everyone. “Let’s all get over there.”
They all ran to the field seeing Kyle at one end and Jaden at the other staring each other down.
“Kyle!” Michael shouted.
“Dad, Mom, keep everyone back,” Kyle exclaimed loudly glancing sideways.
“I am not going to settle for his crap,” Dan said defiantly running out on to the field towards Jaden.
“Dan!! No!!” Kyle shouted.
Jaden stared at Dan and used a wave of his hand throwing him up into the bleachers. He soared up into the air forcing Kyle to do the same with both of them locking arms struggling against each other.
“Think about the power! We could be gods among men.”
“Not today,” Kyle exclaimed releasing and kicking him backwards
One by one Jaden floated and threw javelins in the air careening towards Kyle quickly deflecting all three of them.
“I don’t want to have to kill you, Jaden.”
“Isn’t there anything we can do to help?” Jason said.
“No, this is something Kyle has to do on his own,” Dan said, stumbling back hugging Grace.
Jaden floated a battering ram used during football practice and flung it down the field directly at Kyle like a comet that Kyle rose up in time avoiding it.
“You leave me no choice.”
Jaden reached inside of his jacket pocket pulling out the obelisk that started to glow that Michael could see from the ground.
“Kyle he has the obelisk,” Michael shouted. “Be careful! He has no idea what he stole. The obelisk had been used as a weapon that enhances a Terran’s powers exponentially.”
Kyle stared down the field with his eyes growing wide in astonishment. “Jaden, you don’t know the amount of power you have. Stop this now before it’s too late.”
“Focus on all your strength and energy,” Michael said telepathically. “Make what you want in your mind and release it.”
In his left hand, Jaden held it up and the obelisk began to glow bright shooting out a strong beam of energy that hit Kyle squarely. Kyle struggled being pushed back cupping his hand in front of the beam making his forehead crease hard. The beads of sweat fell down his face using all of his mental energy as Jaden struggled creating white sparks flying out everywhere from Kyle’s hands.
“You can do it, son,” Michael said. “Just believe in your own power.”
Kyle pushed his hands in front of him causing the beam to deflect and feedback to Jaden’s hand.“Noooooo!!!” he screamed.
The beam exploded in a bright burst of light knocking Jaden to the ground. Kyle floated down sighing and rested his hands on his legs peering up seeing Jaden’s body lying down on the field. Sarah ran out to him holding him in his arms as Kyle looked on at the rest of the group.
“Thanks for the vote of confidence,” he said. “Whatever happened to Nicholas, Tyler and Morgan?”
“Don’t worry,” Dan said smiling. “They’re all sleeping it off.”
Kyle leaned in giving Sarah a deep kiss and held her again in his arms. He saw Jason looked awed and dumbfounded.
“Jason, how are you doing?”
“.......Uh, I’m fine,” Jason said wide eyed. “Yeah, I’m okay.”
“Good,” he said nodding and smiling.
Flanked side by side with Sarah and Dan walking out on either side of him to help him along they all saw an ambulance, a dark van, and a few official looking four door cars all pulling up outside the fences in the parking lot. Mrs. Turner stood watch standing off to one side on the sidewalk. The ambulance doors opened where EMT’s greeted and ushered Kyle to sit down on the back seat.
As Kyle was beginning to be treated, from the dark van a group of men filed out walking inside to the football field where one of them could be seen holding a pair of powered up handcuffs. The driver of the dark van walked up to the ambulance.
“We’ll take it from here,” the Terran task force member said.
“Is he.....?” Kyle asked.
“Dead? No, his mind is just dormant now for the time being.”
“There are also three others you’ll want to check on inside.”
“We know,” he said. “You did a good thing today, Kyle. You all did,” the Terran officer said looking at everyone.
“But how did you.....?”
“I can answer that for you,” Mrs. Turner said walking forward. “I’ve been actually working for the Terrans for months now.”
“We suspected that they would try another takeover here on Earth and would possibly try to infiltrate into the high school. Mrs. Turner has acted as our human liaison.”
“They also placed safeguards just in case anyone decided to read my mind,” she said smiling. “I remember it all now.”
Everyone looked seeing Jaden’s body being rolled out on a gurney.
“So what will happen to him?”
“He’ll be taken to a secured facility where he won’t be hurting anyone. The others will all be going through rehabilitation. His uncle as well as Peter Wright, caught in front of the hospital, and all of the other members have already been taken into custody.”
“So Tieran wasn’t Jaden’s father?”
“That’s right,” Michael said. “Once Thomas got sent away to prison Tieran raised Jaden letting him think he was with his real father this whole time.”
“I actually feel kind of sorry for him now.”
“You did what you had to do, Kyle,” Michael said.
“We’re very proud of you,” Jennifer said.
Jaden was loaded into the back of the van and pulled out with a cop car following as the other team members walked inside to retrieve Morgan, Nicholas, and Tyler. Kyle sat getting treated for any bumps or bruises with Sarah by his side. There was nothing else that anyone could do but relax and watch the scene unfold the rest of the way.
It had been two weeks since that night and among the students that night some knew very little or none at all of what exactly happened, but soon the story spread out passing from person to person and although not everybody was completely accepting of the Terrans just yet, it did make them a bit more tolerant and less fearful and that was enough for Kyle.
Kyle stood at his locker picking out his books for his first class when he saw Jason approaching him.
“Hi,” he said grudgingly.
“Hello.”
Jason paused for a moment knowing how hard it was to get the words out where Kyle stood and just listened.
“I am not good when I’ve been proven wrong....I mean you saved Sarah’s life and probably a lot of other people in the process. I know that Sarah wants you more than she will ever want me. So I yield to the better man,” Jason said sticking out his hand.
“Thanks Jason,” Kyle replied sticking out his hand to Jason’s and shaking it.
“Yeah, see you around.....rookie,” Jason said smirking.
Kyle wore a smile of satisfaction knowing the difference he made where not only for himself but for all Terrans that their future of fitting in would start to look bright from now on.
