Chapter 28
The field house had been turned into one large dance floor for all the students in attendance with all of the balloons and streamers hanging high and strobe lights everywhere. The music came to an end where everyone saw Principal Roberts at the microphone.
“Now is the time all of you have been waiting for,” he announced. “The crowning of our Winter Formal King and Queen. All of your votes have been counted.”
Mrs. Turner walked up on stage and handed him a gold envelope. He opened it and pulled out a white card.
“Jason Webber and Jessica Harris!”
Everyone cheered and applauded as Jason and Jessica walked towards the stage and the stairs as Jaden, Morgan, Nicholas, and Tyler floated up above the crowd. The field doors all slammed shut loudly creating a loud boom that made everyone gasp and turn their heads.
“Look up people!” Jaden bellowed.
Everyone stared up in awe seeing the four of them hovering above the ground floating in mid air. ” What are you doing?” Principal Roberts exclaimed. “You all come down here right now!”
“Oh, why don’t you all cool off?” Instantly the emergency sprinklers turned on spraying everyone with water.
Outside Sarah, Kyle, Dan, and Alan ran up to the field house doors. Kyle tried to open it but wouldn’t budge.
“They’re already inside,” he said pounding the door with his fist.
“Kyle, you’d be walking into a trap,” Sarah said. “You know they’re going to be waiting for you to show up. What about the police?”
“Police wouldn’t be able to handle them. This has to be our job.”
Kyle reached out gently holding her hand and gave her a kiss.
“Wait by the car,” he said.
“Please be careful.”
“I will.”
She embraced him and walked away. Standing side by side together Kyle, Dan, and Alan stood in front of the doors and concentrated all of their mental energies, and let the double doors fly open. They walked inside finding everyone attempting to run for cover from the sprinklers. Jaden looked down to see Kyle, Dan, and Alan walking inside.
“Looks like the gang is all here.”
“Jaden!” Kyle yelled.
“Kyle! Buddy, so glad you can join us!” he shouted, throwing his arms up. “Guess the cat’s finally out of the bag as they say!”
The sprinklers instantly turned on leaving everyone wet and soaked.
“Why don’t you let these people go and deal with me?”
“You rather protect the pathetic humans. The same group that has treated you and all of our kind with disdain. We are superior to them and you know it.”
“They’re not so bad once you get to know them if you gave them a chance.”
“It doesn’t matter,” Jaden said. “You are a fool and if you are not with us you are against us.”
Jaden looked up to the ceiling making a row of strobe lights suddenly give way and fall making everyone scream in fright. Dan and Alan quickly slow their descent gently letting it land on the floor.
“Scatter!” Jaden said turning his head to the others.
Kyle ran to the front of the stage looking up to Mrs. Turner and said, “Get everyone safely out of the gym!”
“But what about yourselves?”
“We’ll be fine.”
“Try to stop the other three,” he said turning back to Dan and Alan. “I am going to go after Jaden.”
Dan and Alan both nodded in agreement and took off running out of the field house into the school.
Sarah waited patiently worried outside for Kyle and the others sitting on the hood of her car. She turned her head immediately seeing Jaden standing in front of her.
“Hello, Sarah, you are going to be my bait,” he said quickly holding on to her and lifting her off the ground into the air.
