Chapter 25
Kyle sat in his bedroom accessing the Terran library archive looking to find if there was any possible connection to Christian and Thomas Blackwell. He kept up his search until he came across a colored photo of a family celebrating Colonization Day, the anniversary of when the Ancient Ones first came to their planet forming the Terran civilization. He looked down below reading a small caption that said “Blackwell Family”.
From the photo, he could see Thomas and his wife standing next to another man and below them a young boy. He went to the next entry seeing it was some kind of memorial notice for Diana Blackwell survived by her husband Thomas, brother-in-law, Tieran, and nephew Jaden. He looked back at the little boy in the previous photo taking a hard look at his features.
“Kyle, you alright?” his father knocked on the door. “I heard you running upstairs.”
“Yeah, I think I just confirmed what I have felt ever since the pier,” he said. “Dan and I slipped inside to the school because I wanted to look at Christian’s school records but before last year there was nothing to show where else he went to school before coming here.”
“You shouldn’t have broken into the school but that is unusual because I’m aware that Earth schools like to keep track of stuff like that.”
“But that was just half of it because after we got back to my car me and Dan saw and heard Peter and a student together.”
“Did Peter see either of you?” Michael asked apprehensively.
“No, but the student I saw was Christian but,” he said, showing him the photo, “you notice the young boy in the photo.”
Michael took a closer examination of the photo. “So Thomas Blackwell had a brother? I thought he did but wasn’t sure and there is his son.”
“I also saw the death notice for Thomas’ partner.”
“Yeah, she accidentally died during a riot and Thomas blamed the council.”
“Except now when we were at the school I could hear him not Peter talk about it being his father’s plan.”
Michael sighed rubbing his forehead. “I was really hoping that it didn’t come to this.”
“So does this about proves it?”
“Yeah, looks that way.”
“He’s Jaden Blackwell, Thomas’ nephew.”
“It’s all starting to sense now,” Michael said. “He came after you because I put away his uncle. I’ve put you in harm’s way, Kyle. This means that I am going to have to tell your Mom about this.”
“I understand,” Kyle said, nodding. “She should know.”
Michael turned back to the photo taking a second look intently where Kyle could see his mind was working.
“What do you see in the photo?”
“Could be nothing,” Michael said, shaking his head. “Nothing for you to be concerned about.”
“What do you want me to do?”
“Nothing, it’s time for the Terran authorities to take over. There is enough evidence that we can hold them based on suspicion not unlike the way the Earth police hold people for various crimes.”
“What?!” Kyle said, scrunching his face.
“I know what I said before and you have done a great job but you and your brother were so young when the coup happened on Terra,” he said. “You don’t know bad it was at the height. The demonstrations and fights alone caused so much damage.”
“That means they could be having them here given the chance!”
“Kyle, you will have to trust me and besides isn’t there a dance tomorrow night at the school for their homecoming. You can ask and take Sarah. I’m sure you two will enjoy the break.”
As much as he wanted to disagree with his father, Kyle knew he was right but he still wanted to be prepared for anything. He could see all of the puzzle pieces had fit together where everything was connected.
