Heroes Without A Plan

Chapter Chapter Six: Devilish Goblins

With two months of training under their belts, the heroes quickly got the hang of their weapons. Even Eliot mastered the art of levitation. Proud of her teaching skills, Agatha decided it was time to take on the vile goblins.

“A-Are you sure you want to do this? What if they hurt us, or worse, kill us?” Eliot’s worry continued as they approached the supposed location.

“Oh, don’t worry! You’ve trained. You’ll make it!”

Goblins were evil, destructive creatures. Over the years, they had ravaged many planets. There seemed to be no end in sight, for they were more powerful than the people of Solia.

“We’re supposed to fight bee-riding, corn-shooting goblins with little to no preparation?” Eliot was dumbfounded. So were the others, knowing they would never succeed.

“Pretty much!”

From above, the heroes heard a loud laugh. They looked up, and there was a goblin! A goblin? High in the air, riding a giant bee!

“QUICK! WATCH OUT!” Alyssa yelled as she pushed Mike out of the way of the flying ear of corn.

“Ahh, what do we do?” Eliot cried.

“Fight!” Agatha limped as fast as she could, cane in hand, to a nearby boulder and ducked behind it for cover.

Alyssa was first to act. She rapidly shot arrow after arrow into the bee. Eliot quickly learned how to control the corn as well. He swiftly swung his scepter, grabbed a flying corncob coming at Mike, and moved it out of the way.

The sixth arrow flew straight into the bee’s side. Blood gushed out and it quickly collapsed, causing the goblin to grunt in pain. Before it had a chance to get up, Mike slashed his sword across the monster’s neck, splitting it in half. Blood soared through the air, covering Mike and his sword in dark red.

“T-That... Are you okay?” Eliot squealed and ran to Mike’s side. He gave a reassuring yes, and once they were sure that the monster was dead, they came together.

“We d-did it!” Alyssa huffed, panting with adrenaline.

“Yes! I knew you could! And look at you, not a bruise!” Agatha applauded from behind the rock.

“Yes, we did it!” Eliot cheered. Alyssa rolled her eyes, tore the arrows from the bee, and put them back in her quiver.

Proud that their first encounter with the goblins had gone so well, the four returned to the witch’s hut.

Eliot and Alyssa were ready for a nap by the time they made it back to their room.

“Already tired? Why, you only fought one beast! Don’t tell me you’re that weak!” Agatha teased, laughing as she watched them sink into their beds.

“Yep, that was more goblin than I’ve ever killed!” Eliot replied, curled up in the blankets.

“All right, all right. Have a nice nap, Proudflame!”

Soon Eliot was dozing off. Alyssa, not tired enough to sleep, just lay there with closed eyelids. And after years of hard and fast firefighting, this was nothing for Mike. However, he had no idea how difficult the fight against the rest of them would be.
