Chapter 41 – Oakley
Chapter 41 – Oakley
I wake up in the middle of the night still feeling Ray’s arms around me. Goddess, he feels amazing. The sparks that slide up
and down my skin everywhere he touches me make me want to forget the doctor’s orders. And the smell of him is f ucking – divine.
And now I get why this choice is going to be so hard. I can already feel the strong pull to him, the need to tell him how I feel about him, the love that is growing inside of me. But if I give in, my journey here is done. And this is the one place, the one thing that I’ve done that I’ve actually been accepted and good at. I feel valued, respected, and, most of all, needed.
It’s so hard.
Speaking of hard, how the hell do you get out of a glant werewolf male’s arms in the middle of the night to pee without waking him up? Because I’m not having much luck of it. And I’ve really gotta go.
Ray’s arms are like sparky amazing smelling, masculine iron bars, wrapped around my waist. I’ve tried the hug and roll from Friends, prying his fingers off, brute force, and heavy sighs. Nothing is working.
“Babe, why are you so squirmy?” Ray says in my ear. He sounds groggy until my squirms cause my as s to rub against his front and I feel him start to grow against me. “Oh, is that what you wanted? All you had to do was tell me.” Ray’s hands start to roam my b*dy and I can’t help the moan that pours from my mouth.
“Ray, we can’t. The doctor said no. I’ve just been trying to get up to pee,” I say huskily as his hand finds my n*pple under my shirt and twists.
“Mmmm,” Ray moans, not really seeming to hear me. “You just lay there, baby. I’ll do all the work. I’ll make you feel so da mn good.”
“Ray!” I have moan, half protest. “Thave to pee.”
He seems to finally wake up and hear what I’m saying. “Oh, sorry, Oakley.” He finally lets me go and I reluctantly pull away from him. I look back at him and see him rubbing his eyes. “Hey, wait. Why were you trying to seduce me? You know we can’t have S** until you see the doc.” A smirk crosses his face. “Naughty. Пl pay you back for that later”
I stare at him dumbfounded as he reaches into his boxers and adjusts himself so that his erection is held by his waistband. Might make sleeping a bit easier, I guess. Doesn’t help me that a good portion of his c ock is still sticking out of the top of his boxers, the fat head of his co ck nearly touching his belly button. Ray gives me a lascivious smile and yawns before his eyes flutter closed.
Whatever. Not like I won’t enjoy his payback. And I’ve gotta pee.
I hurry to the bathroom, seeing my phone screen lighting up with an incoming message as I make my way past the coffee table. I swipe it into my hand and then hurry to the bathroom before I answer. Priorities. I can look at the message while I pee.
Once inside the bathroom and taking care of business, I open my phone and see that I have a message from Mary. It was sent just a few minutes ago and when I open it up, I see that it’s a group chat between me, Mary, and Harry.
Mary: Meet me at the garden entrance in 20 minutes,
As I’m sitting there, another message comes through.
Harry: Mary? What the f uck? Do you know what time it is? We can talk in the morning,
Than3y
By then it’ll be too late. 15 minutes. Come alone. Don’t tell anyone.

Chapter 41 – Oakley
Too late? Too late for what? What is Mary talking about?
But she’s refusing to answer any questions, not responding to either Harry or my texts. Well, looks like I’m taking a moonlight stroll in the garden.
1 finish up in the bathroom and then hurry to the bedroom, pulling my leggings and one of Ray’s sweatshirts on. It falls down to my knees, but it’s better than nothing and it’s warm, which my tank top definitely won’t be. I check to make sure that Ray is lightly snoring before I quietly open the door. I shut it just as quietly and hurriedly make my way to the garden entrance.
Mary’s already there, a huge pack beside her. I see Harry hurrying over to us from the barracks. He’s all healed from his fight earlier today and I can see a healing hi ckey on his n*eck. Looks like he and Lisa have made up as well. Guess that doesn’t bode too well for Bard. Poor guy.
“Mary? What’s going on?” I ask.
What was so important that we had to come out here at 2
“I was going to ask the same thing. Why are we out here so late? What w am? Harry asks. Sooo, Harry doesn’t like to lose out on sleep. Noted.
“I’m leaving camp. I needed to tell you guys so that when Cassie and Je rry ask in the morning, you guys know that I’m ok,” Mary says, looking at the ground.
“WHAT?!” I nearly scream.
Harry hurries and covers my mouth so that it doesn’t echo and wake someone up, but his face shows the same amount of alarm that I’m feeling. “What the f uck do you mean you’re leaving? You did so good today. Better than I did. I mean, you made it to the top f ucking four. Why would you leave?”
Ma ry scrubs her hand over her face. Tve been thinking about it all week when I kept moving up in the ranks on pra ctice day, only to fall after they deliberated about it. I just…I can’t keep this yo-yo up. My me ntal health won’t let me keep going.”
“Mary, we’re working on it. And with how well you did today in the tournament, we’ll have even more leeway to get you on the right path with the trainers. We can fix this. You can’t leave yet!” My voice is firm and determined. I refuse to lose my friend this way. Because if I do decide to take on my position as part of the Elite 10 that Ray and my mom seem to think is just hanging there for me to grab, I won’t ever see her again. Not if she leaves. Because my identity will need to be safe.
“It won’t matter. I already know that this isn’t going to work. I don’t..I don’t want it bad enough,” Mary says, shaking her head at me. There’s a sad smile on her face, a wistful expression that I don’t really understand.
“Is it is it because of your mate?” Harry asks.
My eyes cut to his face. “What the hell are you talking about? You know who her mate is? And they’re here?” I feel really out of my depth here. And I’m also a bit pis sed that he knows something about one of my best friends that I don’t, but not the
time to dwell on that.
“You’ve gotta tell her, Mary. You can’t just up and leave without an explanation. And the one that you’re giving is complete and utter bu l ls hit. We all know it,” Harry says to Mary.
She nods and turns to me. “Harry found me on the ground right after I found out who my mate was. After I felt them with
someone else.”
“Sh it. That sucks, Mary. I’m really sorry. Do you mind telling me who it is? Maybe when can fix it. It sounds like he doesn’t know that his mate is here yet.” I know the pain that Mary is feeling right know and I’d do anything to fix it.
“Not, him. My mate is a she-wolf. I’m g ay” Mary says.
Ah. Didn’t know that. Not something that I really care about, but at the same time, would have been nice to know. “Ok. So,

who is she?
“Cassie And I found out because she and Je rry were together Mary tells me
I
Oh F uck That is so not good
I had known that Jer ry and Cassie had been flirting with each other for a while now it was only a matter of time before they
did something about it. What I didn’t know was how Mary felt about Cassie.
“I found her in the garden, clutching her chest. I know that pain. I just held her through it.” Harry says it’s only now that I realize that I don’t know what sent Harry here. Looks like he had one bi tch of a first mate. And he’s got Lisa as he second chance? Tough break
“Me too,” I say “Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy” look to Mary is Cassie your first mate?”
“Yeah,” she says, tears shining in her eyes. “I know that she doesn’t know yet. I know she wouldn’t do that to me if she did know But I can’t wait around here for her to find out. J erry has my number. I have my phone on me. If Cassie wants to talk.or
reject me she can call. But I can’t stick around to find out. If she wants me, I’ll stick around the area until the end of training.
but after that? I don’t know. I might live off continent. I just. I can’t wait around for her to reject me. Especially if she’s going to
reject me for my brother. And the Elite 10 isn’t worth it to me to stick around and be with her if we can’t keep going?”
Well, there’s not much you can say to that.
After finding out that she has enough money and resources to take care of herself, Harry and I walk her to the gates. We give her huge hugs and promises to write to her, no matter what happens to us. She says that she’ll leave word with Jer ry about
where we can send her the letters.
And then we watch her walk of out the gates, knowing that tomorrow isn’t going to be fun when we have to explain to Mary’s
mate and her twin brother why she left.
