Chapter 38 – Sophia

Alpha Silver stands and walks to the center of the room. I am so thankful that I have multiple gifts from our Mother

I

Goddess, one of them being that I can hide my emotions, including schooling my heartbeat and scent so that no one can truly tell how I feel. Because each and every person in this room would know how disgusted I am by Alpha Silver and Oakley’s family.

I am fully aware that our Mother Goddess brought out the absolute worst thoughts of all of these males about Oakley. But I also know everything that she went through. The Goddess filled me with the knowledge of the pain that each and every trainee went through to send them here once they were chosen. And I have to say that Oakley’s pain was the worst. It seems that these men had some very dark thoughts about this sweet and wonderful girl. Not very surprising given the pack they are from.

Each pack has its own strengths and weaknesses, obviously, though it is usually dependent on the alpha in charge. Leadership makes a big difference in how packs operate. Again, that’s fairly obvious.

But the Silver Lake Pack has historically been a pack all about strength. Anyone without a strong wolf is always shunned by the wolves in that pack. It’s very obvious that Oakley’s situation was forced on her because the Mother Goddess wanted Oakley here very badly. And feeling her aura, I know why. This she-wolf will have a lot of power. Power that is unparalleled by any wolf in centuries.

Mother Selene has a strong sense of irony

Normally, I have very little difficulty hiding my emotions. Like I said, it’s a gift from the Goddess. But even my wolf can’t stand these males and knowing that Alpha Silver is trying to use his position to get his way to possibly hurt Oakley all the more is pis sing me off. This she wolf has wormed her way into my heart and I just can’t stand the thought that she would go back to

them.

Of course I know that the Mother Goddess has given her the choice of going back. She could make a huge difference in that pack, changing how they think of and treat weaker wolves for generations to come. I just hope she doesn’t take it. I’d rather see her with Ray, who definitely deserves all the happiness that he can get, or as one of the Elite 10, which she definitely has all the

ability and power to do.

If I can keep Levi away from her, we won’t risk that.

Sitting back in my seat, I listen to what this as shole alpha has to say.

Alpha Silver walks to the podium, a sheaf of paper in his hands. He situates his papers in front of him, often referring to his notes, but also looking around the room and making eye contact with everyone that is listening as he speaks. “Distinguished members of the council, thank you so much for coming together to help us sort this out. Since the beginning of our kind, our Moon Mother has cared for us above all other creatures in her realm. And because of that, she decided that she would create

the perfect mate for each and every one of us, splitting our souls in half and placing each half into two bodies that would

eventually meet again and reunite.

“That mate, that other half of us, is to be treasured and loved above all else. They make us better, stronger, and wiser. They fill our lives with all the best things in life and help us through the worst.

“The stronger the wolf, the stronger the bond. The higher the rank, the more they need one another. It’s supposed to keep the pack strong, the matebond between a luna and an alpha. It gives the pack prosperity. Keeps them safe. Instills hope, faith,

and trust.”

Alpha Silver takes a long, deep breath, letting it out slowly. When he speaks this time, his voice sounds completely broken. “I f ucked that up. I allowed my pride to get in the way of my love for my mate. That’s all it was, simple and selfish pride. The

second that Oakley saw me, she tried to run. I hadn’t even scented her yet and and she was so afraid of me, of my reputation, and of what I might do to her because she didn’t have a wolf that she tried to leave without even acknowledging that she was my mate. And since her wolf was so weak, I almost didn’t scent her out. But she knew who I was. And she didn’t want me.

“It gutted me. I’d waited my whole life for my mate. And there she was. She was perfect. But she didn’t want me. She was so scared to have me as a mate and it pis sed me off. How could a weak, barely there she-wolf look down her nose at me? How could she push me aside? I’m one of the strongest alphas on the continent. It caused such a black rage in me that I freaked out on her. I took all of the pain and the disappointment that her running away caused me and I used it to hurt her. And then, when she rejected me, I lost it. It’s like I blacked out and when I woke up, her blood was all over me. And there was her broken and crumpled b*dy on the ground in front of me. I had done that to her. And it was like I had been pushed to the back of my mind and watched what I was doing, sort of like when your wolf surges forward and sends you to the back of your mind. For those three months, it wasn’t me in control. My wolf and I were both stuck in the back of my mind and watching something else do and say those things to my mate.

“And then the second she was gone. I was back and everything that had happened hit me at once. It broke me. It broke everything in me. It took several days to find her and my wolf hasn’t let me rest until I found her.

Tears are falling down his cheeks as he continues. “I know she’s here. My wolf can feel her. I can get whiffs of her scent. I need my mate. I never accepted her rejection and I either need to convince her to come back to my pack with me and be our luna…or I need to reject her to her face to sever the matebond and allow her the ability to move on.”

Alpha Silver sits down, the room is extremely quiet. They’ll be able to ask Alpha Silver questions in a little bit, but first it’s my turn.

Head Historian Frederick looks to me. “Commander and Head Warrior Sophia Knight is here to speak on the behalf of the Elite 10.

I nod and stand, walking to the podium. Unlike Alpha Silver, I don’t have notes with me. I know the laws and my role by heart. I don’t need notes to remind me of it.

“Honored historians, alphas, betas, gam mas, deltas, and guests For generations, my family, the Knight family, has been the secret keepers, the trainers, the confidants, and the protectors of the Elite 10. We are the ones who keep their identities safe. We are the ones that keep them sane throughout the grueling training. We keep their pack close knit. And we make sure that no one uses their power, guile, or celebrity to figure out who or where the Elite 10 are.

“I was raised to know all the ways of the Goddess. To know that the Goddess seeks out the 10 best wolves in all of wolfkind to protect us all. To be our enforcers and to maintain law and order. They are pushed here by the Goddess. Away from their families, their packs, and their mates. So forcefully that they’re willing to leave it all behind, including their names. They entrust me with their identities. Other than the Elite 10 pack members, I am the only one who knows who they were.

“This is the divine law of the Mother Goddess. She doesn’t want her descendants’ identities known for their own protection. Because once they have finished their service, they will go on and have their own lives, unbothered by those who seek to harm them or to find revenge. They have served and completed their duty. They should be allowed to rest in peace.

“As wise and as powerful as all the wolves here in attendance are, you are not more powerful than our Mother Goddess. It is her will that those who are part of the Elite 10 are anonymous. And until that pack is chosen, anyone training is gifted that same benefit. I cannot tell you who is here because the Mother Goddess has said I can’t.

“If Oakley Moon is here and she is truly meant to be the luna of the Silver Lake Pack, she won’t make it into the Elite 10 and will go back home. Or she will find another mate and the bond will be broken once they are mated. Or it will be broken forcibly by the Mother Goddess when she becomes part of the Elite 10. Either way, there is no reason for me to divulge who may or may not be in our training it is unnecessary and dangerous. It is my sacred charge to stop you from finding out who is in my care. It’s time for you!

you to stop.
