Chapter 18 Oakley
Chapter 18 – Oakley
I make it to roll call just in time, Mary and Cassie looking at me like I’m insane.
“Where the f uck were you?” Cassie asks out of the corner of her mouth.
“I’ll tell you after roll call. I’ll just say, I definitely wasn’t alone in the showers like Mary said I was,” I whisper back.
The girls are about to pelt me with questions, but Sophia puts two fingers in her mouth and lets out an ear splitting whistle.
All of us turn to face front, standing at attention. It’s a common skill for us to have because of training in our packs. Though we are well integrated into society, both werewolf and human, and the last full scale wolf war was well over 200 years ago, wolves still train starting at age 11. There are rogue wolves, malevolent paranormals, and the possibility of being pulled into military service for the continent. So the basics of military, weapons, and fighting training have been drilled into all of us.
We are quiet and at attention within seconds and Sophia looks well, she doesn’t look as pis sed off as she normally does, so
I’m going to take that as a win.
“Not awful,” she says, her voice carrying in the crisp morning air. “When Head Trainer Ethan calls your name, you will come
up and stand in front of the first empty trainer on the left. This will be your spot at every roll call, putting you in alphabetical order. No matter who leaves their spot in line, that is where you will be until your final day here. I look up to the front and see
five trainers at the front of the courtyard, each with a knapsack across their bodies. Ray is one of them. When Sophia or Ethan
are looking, his eyes are on them. But the second they look away his eyes are on me. The heat in them nearly boils my blood
and I have to bite my bottom l*p to stop a growl that threatens to roll up from my chest. A smirk that is all male possessiveness
tugs at his l*ps and he mouths one word to me. “Soon.”
Goddess, it’s not soon enough.
Sophia turns to Head Trainer Ethan and nods her head.
“Aster, Riley,” Ethan calls and one of the guys from J erry’s room heads to the front.
“Berry, Jordan” A girl from another dorm comes to the front.
It continues like that through the 48 of us that made it through the first day. Jer ry and Mary are obviously next to each other
at the front of the line. Two rows back is our lovely roommate, Lisa Ivy. I just thank the Goddess that I’m not next to her,
because with the last name of Moon, it’s all too possible. However, there are several Moons in our group and I’m at the end of
the row.
And who is standing there to tell me where my spot is? Of course it’s the wolf that is going to distract me all day with his heated looks. Ray stands in front of me, a smile on his handsome face.
“It seems that the Goddess is going to force us together until we’re not going to be able to hold ourselves back, little wolf,”
he whispers to me.
“Do we have time for a quickie during breakfast, then, Trainer? Because I’m having a lot of trouble focusing on anything other than the promises that you made to me when we were n*ked in the shower earlier,” I whisper back.
His eyes flash black as his wolf tries to come to the surface. I have no doubt that if he let his wolf out that I would be on the ground with my pants ripped off and his co ck stuffed into my pus sy.
He pulls something out of his knapsack and hands it to me, using the excuse of showing me something in the small book
that he gave me to get close and whisper in my ear. “Believe me, little wolf, when we finally come together, it will not be quick.
A normal real time will not be long enough for me to be finished with you. You have not only intrigued me. You’ve intrigued my

wolf. And I have the feeling that he’s going to want his time with you as well.”
He takes a deep breath, scenting my arousal that I know is permeating the air around us, closing his eyes to relish the scent. When he opens them, they are onyx colored, his wolf pushing to the surface. “Soon, little wolf. Soon you will be mine.”
And then he moves on as Cassie moves to the spot behind me.
Well, f uck. How am I going to concentrate for the rest of the day if my panties are soaking wet and the day has barely begun?
At breakfast, I search through the booklet that Ray gave me. Inside is a map of the grounds, schedules, names of the
ranking trainers, expectations of one of the Elite, and other miscellaneous information. I notice on the inside cover of the booklet is Ray’s name, phone number, hell even his room number written in a looping handwriting, along with a note: “I can’t wait to make you mine.”
And I have to get up to go to the bathroom after that so that my arousal doesn’t scent the air. How does this male do that
when he’s not even around? Gonna have to get some descenter if he keeps pulling this sh it.
As soon as breakfast is over, we head out to the courtyard again.
Head Trainer Ethan takes the lead here. “This week will be all about weapons. We want to see how you handle a variety of
weapons, hopefully finding your specialty, but ensuring that you know how to handle each one. You never know what will be
available to you in a fight and you have to be able to use whatever is there.
“At the end of each day, you will be ranked against your peers. Today, you will only have today’s scores. But each day after
will be an average of the previous day’s and the current day’s scores. By the end of the week, anyone below slot 39 will leave.
That doesn’t mean that no one else will leave, just that those are the automatics.”
The reminder that we could be kicked out at any time is a sobering thought.
“The weapons will progress in the following order. swords today, followed by pistols and long range rifles, knives, archery,
and blunt objects such as staffs and nunchucks. The sixth day will consist of practice time for you in small groups with each
weapon. The final day will be a round robin elimination sparring match with whatever weapon you choose. Your elimination
from the round robin doesn’t guarantee that you will be eliminated from this training. But, your rank in the round robin will count
double and averaged into your week’s score, so it does behoove you to do well”
Ok. Well, it seems straight forward, at least.
We are split into five groups and two trainers go through several strikes, deflections, guards, advances, fades, and lunges.
We practice them individually throughout the morning, the trainers coming around and adjusting grips, elevating or lowering
arms and elbows, and calling out the next step. Though there were a few new techniques that I learned from the trainers, I knew most of this. Sword and knife fighting are some of my favorites, so I’d been doing this since I was 12 with my father and
brothers.
I was thankful that Ray wasn’t one of my trainers. I wouldn’t have been able to focus at all if he had been adjusting my
stance or assessing my form.
Individual praction eng
at lunch. We all head to the mess hall and get an hour to eat and rest before we head back out into the courtyard again. This time, we are put in pairs of two to spar.
Like I said, I love sword and knife fighting and have been doing it for years. Because of that, I spent most of my sparring time helping others instead of showing off my own technique. It was just a natural thing for me. If I’m good at something and
the person that I’m working with isn’t, I naturally go into teaching mode.

Each time that a trainer comes by, I’m either helping my current sparring partner with their techniques, calling out praises. when my partner does something well, or orchestrating our moves so they can try out some of the things that we talked about. I can definitely see that my sparring partners are doing better by the end of our 30 minute time frame before we move to the next
partner.
Unfortunately, some people feel a lot more confident about their skills and want to show off. Riley, the first male in line at roll call this morning, gets a little too excited and slices the leg of the male he’s sparring with, right along the femoral artery. Thank the Goddess there were medics on the sidelines. They got him stitched up before he bled out and his wolf was able to heal him fairly quickly.
Head Trainer Ethan walks over to Riley. “Get your things and get out.”
“What?!” Riley screams. “Why is it my fault that he couldn’t dodge my sword? Why am I being punished?”
“Because he is a member of your squad. Your desire to show off and get yourself a higher score
protect your squad mate. There is no room for that here. Get out,” Head Trainer Ethan says.

above your need to
Riley is pretty pis sed. “F uck you!” he spits out at Ethan.
“Not if you don’t care about your squadmates you won’t, Ethan says calmly and turns away. To the rest of us, he says, “Get
back to it.”
And we do. I keep encouraging and helping my sparring mates and I’m actually having a lot of fun. I don’t even realize how much I helped others instead of showing what I can do until they call us up to the scoreboard before dinner,
All of us are gathered back in our roll call positions at the front in the courtyard. I had stopped noticing the trainers while we
were sparring it was all about helping my squadmates
It isn’t until I see our 47 names on the board that I realize that was a mistake
Lisa is near the top of the board, which is fair because she was awesome when we spared. Cassie, Je rry, and Mary are also
close to the top. But me? I’m ranked at number 40.
Me helping the rest of the squad and not showing my skills knocked me down to the bottom of the list.
