He Wants Me Back After the Divorce by Little Mermaid

Chapter 26

Chapter 26 You Are Nothing Without Dominic

Exiting the kindergarten, Daniel sauntered out with his backpack, seemingly indifferent. He cast a glance at Lydia but ignored her as he strode past her.

Lydia, already in a sour mood, was further enraged by being ignored. She purposefully blocked Daniel’s path, determined to confront him. “I’m here to pick you up. Can you at least show some respect?”

With an expressionless face, Daniel showed no interest in talking to her. “I prefer to let the driver pick me up.”

Lydia widened her eyes, her frustration boiling over. “You ungrateful brat! You’re heartless and nothing like your mother!”

“She’s not my mother.”

“The paternity test clearly proved that Grace is your mother. Are you despising her? If it wasn’t for Grace, how could someone like you, a little jerk, be born into the Dawson family?”

Lydia rolled her eyes multiple times in exasperation. “You’re just an ungrateful jerk.

Ignoring her gibberish, Daniel shifted his gaze to the side and suddenly noticed a parked car nearby. He walked directly towards it.

“Mom!”

“You brat, do you think she’s your mom You don’t even respect your real mother, Grace, like that!” Lydia shouted angrily. “Hey! Watch out!”

Having heard the shouting from behind her, Celia turned around and saw a child running towards her, with a car closely following behind.

Without hesitation, Celia swiftly opened the car door and hurried towards them. A road lay between them, with the traffic light currently displaying a red signal.

“Mama!” Tammy exclaimed in panic.

Celia focused on quickly reaching Daniel and timely picked him up, narrowly avoiding the car that nearly hit them.

The screeching sound of the car coming to a halt resonated nearby. The driver angrily emerged from the vehicle and shouted, “Don’t you teach your child to obey traffic lights? Why can’t you be a responsible parent?”

Celia felt the strain in her arm and couldn’t fathom why she was being scolded. She was about to retort when she noticed the child in her arms trembling, holding onto her tightly.

Looking down at the visibly frightened and pale child, Celia’s heart ached.

The driver continued his string of insults, roaring, “This is all your fault for jaywalking. It has nothing to do with me. I won’t pay a penny, even if you were hit.”

Celia lifted her head coldly and composedly and retorted, “Get lost!”

Legally, if pedestrians crossed the road against a red light, the driver didn’t carry much responsibility, and even if Daniel was accidentally hit by the driver, it would be considered unfortunate.

However, the mere thought of a life almost being taken away infuriated Celia.

The driver was rendered speechless by her fierce glare and muttered curses, eventually driving away. Celia tried to soften her tone as she gently asked the child in her arms, “Are you hurt?”

Before Daniel could respond, Lydia angrily stormed over and demanded, “Who gave you the right to touch him? Give him back to me!”

Celia scoffed and gave Lydia a cold, piercing gaze. “Are you truly capable of babysitting a child? When he was nearly hit, why didn’t you even try to pull him back?”

Celia had seen Lydia close by, just a few meters away from Daniel. If Lydia had hurried over, she could have saved him. However, Lydia stood by and only approached after the driver had driven away. Her indifference toward Daniel was alarmingly apparent.

Lydia’s eyes flickered with a touch of guilt, but she remained defiant,

straightening her posture. “The brat got himself into trouble, and why am I the one to be blamed?”

Celia showed a dismissive look because she thought Lydia’s carelessness was not worthy of her consideration.

Her hands started to feel warm and wet all of a sudden.

Celia sensed something was wrong and glanced down, discovering a large blood. stain on Daniel’s clothes, likely from his previous bruise.

“Mom, it hurts…” Daniel whimpered in pain. He weakly closed his eyes and passed out in her arms.

Celia’s heart constricted in fear and worry, unable to understand why she was so deeply concerned.

Lydia rushed over and forcefully snatched the child from Celia’s arms, seething with anger. “This is all your fault! You couldn’t even protect a child! If anything happens to Daniel, I won’t let you off!”

Lydia muttered under her breath as she spoke and then left with Daniel.

Celia bent down to look at the blood stains on her clothing. She could tell that Daniel had no other wounds except a blood loss through her years of experience as a doctor. Her quick responses changed many things.

Additionally, she noticed that the injured area appeared to be where Daniel had used his hand to shield her back. Celia realized that he had intentionally tried to protect her.

Celia had already given her new contact number to Dominic, so she received his call later that evening.

“Daniel is fine,” he told her. “I reviewed the surveillance footage from the road. Thank you.”

Celia let out a sigh of relief. “As long as he is safe and recovered. Please take good. care of him, since Grace and her friends can’t be relied upon,” she reminded him.

Dominic remained silent for a few seconds before responding. “Okay, I understand. I’ll take care of Grace’s friends too. I think she is responsible for Daniel’s incident.”

Celia felt reassured, thinking that having someone else to care for the child. would be more reliable than Lydia.

Then, Dominic added out of the blue, “Daniel is a test–tube baby.”

Celia was taken aback by this unexpected revelation. “A test–tube baby… yes, that would be safer,” she replied.

“I have never had sex with Grace,” he suddenly divulged.

Upon hearing that Dominic had never been sleeping with Grace, Celia wast shocked. This revelation was truly shocking.

“Grace’s body is too fragile to give birth to a baby, and you indeed take good care

of her for all these years,” Celia remarked, aware that Dominic was not one to abstain from seeking pleasure. In fact, he had always enjoyed sex in private settings.

Celia guessed that he was holding back because he didn’t want to pressure Grace and didn’t want to force her to do what she couldn’t.

However, Dominic’s response made Celia speechless once again. His face darkened as he uttered, “Even if she were in good health, I wouldn’t fuck her.”

Celia couldn’t help but laugh contemptuously, remarking, “So, are you suggesting that you’re now only interested in me? That you only want to sleep with me, Mr. Dawson? Do you truly expect me to believe that?”

There was silence on the other end of the phone, and eventually, Dominic replied slowly, “No, that’s not what I mean. It’s not just about you.”

Celia jested, “How ridiculous! I thought you had me in your heart by now, and that you couldn’t live without me.”

Celia didn’t really believe that Dominic loved only her.

After a prolonged silence on the other end of the phone, Celia glanced at her phone only to realize that the call had been terminated.

Celia shrugged, realizing that Dominic couldn’t handle her teasing. However, since she had already engaged in such banter, she knew his character well enough to know that he wouldn’t bother her again.

With a contented smile, Celia went about her day.

Shortly after, Celia received another incoming call. Surprisingly, it was from Grace, who also had Celia’s new number.

Celia was left dumbfounded, finding it hard to believe that Dominic had so quickly shared her number with Grace.

Celia reluctantly answered, the phone.

As soon as the call was answered, Grace mentioned that Celia had changed her phone number.

“I had no idea you went through the trouble of changing your phone number. If Dominic hadn’t mentioned it to me, I would have no idea about it,” Grace

remarked.

Celia couldn’t help but roll her eyes at such an obvious statement, and she didn’t
