Chapter 12
Part 12
After being discharged from the hospital, Steven embarked on a quest for redemption. He went around apologizing to the doctors and nurses in normal manner, way different from his last breakdown. Meanwhile, my parents had already laid me to rest, keeping Steven in the dark about my final resting place. Little did they know, Steven’s profession as a forensic analyst gave him the tools to uncover the truth. Despite their efforts, he managed to track down the cemetery where I was buried.
With determination in his eyes, Steven spent an entire day and night searching for my grave. Finally, he found it. He adorned it with fresh flowers, tenderly cleaned the blood–stained ring and placed it reverently before the tombstone. He stole the ring, risking his job if caught. But he shrugged off the consequences.
Gazing at the ring on his finger, Steven whispered to me, “My dear wife, this ring is a pair, just like
you
and I are.” With those heartfelt words, he collapsed before my grave, his body convulsing uncontrollably.
As he laid there, foaming at the mouth, Steven’s final moments unfolded before me. A gentle breeze swept through the cemetery, carrying away the ring as if releasing it from its earthly tether. And just like that, my body dissipated into smoke and dust under the warmth of the sunlight.
Farewell, husband. Farewell, Steven.
