Chapter 10: The Talk
Ace
“How do you know Lawson?” Deacon asked right as I shut the door.
“Whoa. I’m asking the questions here.” I said holding my hand up. “How do you know Lawson?”
Deacon chuckled and shook his head. “You’re so cute.”
I gagged. “Don’t call me cute.”
“Beautiful? Gorgeous? Goddess? Queen? Pick one.” Deacon smiled.
“Just answer the fucking question.” I growled.
“Fine.” Deacon sighed as he sat down in his chair. “He is the leader of a rouge group that I have been trying to catch for many years.”
“The Killers.” I said before he had a chance to speak again.
Deacon, Gabriel, Zane, and his members looked shocked.
“H-how do you know them?” Gabriel asked.
“We have been trying to find them too.” Zylen said.
“We found a trail about two years ago, but we lost it.” Colby added. “We haven’t had another trail ever since.”
“Why are you trying to find them?” Deacon asked.
I looked at the girls and they nodded.
“I think it’s time to tell them.” Colby said as Zylen agreed.
I sighed and looked out the window. “They killed our parents.”
“What?” Zane asked, his voice small.
“When I was 16, we were having our annual pack picnic and that’s when it happened.” I explained. “I remember it perfectly.”
Flashback
“Mom.” I laughed as she through a grape at me.
“What?” My mom asked innocently. “I didn’t do anything.”
“Dad. You saw that right?” I asked.
“Saw what?” He asked.
“You guys are both so rude.” I laughed.
“Me? Rude? You’re funny.” My mom said.
I was about to speak, but I smelt something.
“Do you guys smell that?” I asked as I stood up and sniffed the air.
“Smell what?” My dad asked as he looked around.
“Smoke.” I mumbled.
“Alpha!” A younger guard yelled as he came running into the clearing.
“Wes? What’s wrong?” My mom asked.
“We are under attack!” His brother yelled.
“Everyone!” My dad growled. “I need the ones who can fight. The others get to the safe houses!”
“Dad?” I asked worried.
“Honey. You need to go get safe.” My dad said as he pushed me over by my mother.
“But I can fight.” I defended.
“You are only 16. You recently shifted and I can’t have you get hurt.” My dad said sternly.
“Um dad.” I said as I pointed behind him.
He turned around and faced the group of rogues.
“Alpha.” The man sneered.
“Who are you?” My dad asked as he shoved me behind him
“The name is Lawson.” The man smiled.
“Go away!” I growled as I stood in front of my dad.
“Aw looky here. Little future alpha.” Lawson laughed as the others did too. “You need to get out of my way punk.”
“What do you want?” My dad asked as he grabbed me.
“You dead.” Lawson growled.
And with that, all hell broke loose.
I watched shocked as rogues just poured out of the trees.
“The Killers will be in charge of this pack now.” Lawson smirked as he shifted as well.
My dad growled and shifted.
‘Follow your mother!’ He yelled in the link before he charged.
“Let’s go Ace.” My mom said as she grabbed my arm.
Wes and Mike ran up to us and stood on both of sides of us.
‘Come on Ace.’ Mike said as he trotted alongside of us.
“Dad!” I yelled.
“He will be fine!” My mom yelled over the growls.
Little did I know that was a lie.
We made it out of the clearing and made a run for it.
I heard a growl and watched my mom get tackled.
“Mom!” I yelled as tears poured down my face.
A rogue looked down at her and growled.
I was about to help her, but it was too late.
I cried out loud as the rogue bit her throat and tore a piece of flesh out.
“G-go. Ace.” My mom gasped. “B-be safe.”
My mom’s blood sprayed me as the rogue slashed the remaining of her throat.
I stood there shocked, but finally turned around and ran.
I don’t know how long I’ve been running for, but I had to stop to take a breath.
“Where is she?” I heard a growl.
I jumped and ran towards a tree.
I climbed up high and stayed there trying to calm my breathing.
“I can’t sniff her out.” Another rogue growled.
‘It must be your mom’s blood covering your scent.’ Ava said.
‘Please don’t say that.’ I whispered as I felt more tears running down my face.
“I can’t take over this fucking pack unless she is dead!” The man yelled.
‘That must be Lawson.’ Ava said.
“I-I don’t know sir.” The man before replied.
“We will split up and find her. I need her dead.” Lawson growled.
I heard them both run off.
‘I-I don’t know what to do.’ I said crying.
I stayed the night up in tree, scared that if I got down that I would be next to die.
When I woke up, I heard footsteps below.
Getting ready to shift, I waited for them to get closer, then I would attack.
“Ace?” I heard a girl call out.
Zylen!
“Up here!” I called out.
I climbed down the tree and saw Zylen and Colby at the bottom.
“Guys!” I cried as I landed and hugged them both.
“I thought we lost you!” Colby cried as she hugged me tighter.
“Where is everyone?” I asked.
“W-we don’t know.” Zylen said sadly.
“We thought it was just us.” Colby added.
“Come on.” I said determined. “Let’s get to the pack house. See if anyone is there.”
Zylen nodded and we all started to walk.
“Who’s blood is that?” Colby asked scared.
“My mom’s.” I said quietly.
The rest of the walk was quiet.
It took a while to get back to the pack house.
But when we got there, there were bodies everywhere.
“Oh my gosh.” Zylen gasped.
I heard something behind me and I turned around with a growl.
“Ace?” Edward asked as he stared at me in shock. “Oh my gosh. Ace!”
“Edward!” I yelled as I ran over to him.
“Thank goodness you are okay. And you two.” Edward said. “Where are your parents?”
“Dead.” Zylen and Colby said sadly.
“Mom is dead.” I said as my voice cracked. “Where is my dad?”
Edward looked away sadly.
“Edward!” I yelled. “Where is my dad?”
“Ace. Your father.” He sighed. “Your father is dead.”
“What?” I asked as I took a step back. “No. No. He can’t be.”
“I’m sorry Ace.” He whispered. “He was killed. He was protecting a young pup and he took the blow instead.”
“No.” I cried as I fell to my knees. “This can’t be happening.”
“Ace.” Edward said quietly as he softly grabbed my arm and pulled me up.
“It’s going to be okay.” John said as he walked over with Mike and Wes.
“Is anyone else alive?” I asked as I wiped my tears.
“Only a couple.” John stated. “The ones that made it are hiding in the safe house.”
I nodded. “We have some work to do.”
End of flashback.
“That’s how I became alpha.” I said.
“Oh my gosh.” Deacon said speechless.
I nodded. “Ever since that day, I have been looking for The Killers. They caused my pack so much damage and I swore that I would get revenge. That was the first time Lawson made an appearance in 6 years. I don’t know what they were doing for all those years, but I need to find them.”
“He wanted to take over our pack. Killing her father, he thought he could. But when he didn’t feel the power transfer over, that’s when he realized he forgot one thing.” Zylen spoke up.
“What’s that?” Zane asked.
“Me.” I said as I looked at them. “He forgot about me. I was the only child, so the alpha title went to me. He has to kill me in order to become alpha.”
“That’s not going to happen.” Deacon growled as he stood up.
“How do you know them?” Colby asked.
Deacon gave us a sad look. “He murdered our parents too. Ambush them during a border check.”
“Our moms tried to protect us. The rogues got to them before we could do anything.” Gabriel said.
“We have been searching for them too ever since.” Zane added.
“So The Killers took everything from us. Just like you guys.” Gabriel said.
I looked over at Zylen and she had her thinking face on.
Oh no.
“Zylen?” I asked carefully. “What are you thinking?”
Zylen looked up at everyone else and then turned to me. “I think we should work together.”
“What?” Colby and I asked.
Zylen nodded. “They attacked both of us. Like the Moon Goddess said. I think we should join up and take The Killers down.”
“I think she is right.” Zane nodded. “It would be much more affective.”
“Of course you think that.” Colby said rolling her eyes.
Zane looked hurt and looked away.
Colby sighed. “I guess they have a point.”
“Ace?” Zylen asked. “What do you think?”
I stood there silent.
‘Ava?’ I asked.
I heard her sigh. ‘They do have a point. But I don’t know.’
‘So what do you think?’
‘Maybe we could try it.’ Ava said. ‘And if it doesn’t work out, stop it.’
‘I could try it.’ I said.
“Well?” Deacon asked quietly.
I can’t believe I’m fucking doing this.
“Fine.” I mumbled. “But one thing that I don’t like, we are done.”
Deacon smiled and nodded quickly. “Deal.”
“And don’t you three dare act like you are in charge.” I threatened. “Because us girls are on the same level as you three are. We don’t do well with being bossed around.”
“Deal.” Deacon smiled as he stuck his hand out.
I gulped and slowly stuck my hand out.
I gasped as I felt the sparks and brought my hand back to my chest.
“I think we need to talk about that.” Deacon said as he gave me a pointed look. “I have some things to tell you.”
“I knew this day would come.” I mumbled as I followed him out of the room.
‘It has been a year. It was bound to happen anyway.’ Ava said.
‘You’re not helping.’ I growled.
I heard Ava laugh and I shut her out.
Damn wolves.
