Chapter 55
Chapter 55: A Betrayal Revealed
*Riley*
I was exhausted. There were so many people in need of healing and bandages it seemed like it was never-ending. Using my gift to heal was also more tiring than I thought. I ended up only using it for smaller wounds as the bigger ones would have drained me and I was there to help not be a patient.
Heading back to my room I quickly showered and brushed my hair. before dropping down on my bed. I rolled to my side and touched the bed where Nicolas should have been lying. I missed him. I blew out and relaxed my body and mind before reaching out to him through the mind link. When I heard his voice, my body relaxed and I knew everything would be ok.
“I missed you,” he said, his words warming my body as if he were there holding me.
“Good, but I missed you more,” I said. I could almost feel his laughter
on me.
“I know I need to be here, but being away from you is harder than I thought. I guess I’ve gotten used to you always being around,” I admitted. I knew we both had our roles to do and he was busy with
him but that didn’t mean I had to like it.

“Are you alone?” he asked.
“Yes, I’m in bed,” I answered.
“Good,” he said.
I was about to ask why when I suddenly felt my lips warm as if I were being kissed. I sighed into the kiss, and then it deepened. I was alone in my bed and yet arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me in.. Lips danced over mine, tugging on them, and his tongue slipped in my mouth begging me to suck on it, which I eagerly did. A rumbled growl surrounded me as I broke off the kiss and bit his chin, under his jaw, and then his neck before kissing my way back up to his lips.
Nicolas claimed not just my lips, but all my senses. His smell filled my nose while his taste exploded in my mouth. His big hands held my neck keeping me close to him, though my eyes were closed I knew exactly where he would touch me next.
Unsure of how far he could take me in the mindlink I pulled back. My body was alive and I didn’t want to be left unsatisfied because of the
distance between us.
“I have no idea we could do that,” I heard myself panting. I was beyond
flustered and full of lust.
“I wanted you to know how missed you were,” he said and I could hear
his smile.

“Well, I’m glad I got to end my day with another high note,” I smirked.
“Another? What was the first?” he asked, a worried tone coming. through the link.
“Oh, I forgot to mention it. My gift is the gift of healing. I have healing powers,” I said.
“Really? My luna is very powerful,” he said and my heart swelled.
“I don’t know about that, it’s pretty draining, but I’m hoping I just need more practice with it. I’d be able to help so many more people,” I said concern in my voice.
“You are doing all that you can. You should rest now,” he said.
“Mmm, yeah. I am exhausted,” I said, my mind fighting to link. “I’ll see you soon.”
He sent me a tight hug and after that, the link dropped and I slipped into a deep sleep, his hug the only blanket I needed.
Unfortunately, I didn’t sleep the whole night through. At first, I didn’t realize that sound wasn’t something from my dream, but as the dream. continued and the noise was still present, I jerked up.
“Enough already!” I yelled into the void of my room. When I realized I was alone, I flopped back down on the bed. Perhaps I was more tired.

than I thought.
I was about to close my eyes when I heard the sound again. It wasn’t in my dream and it wasn’t far away either. Throwing my legs over the edge of the bed I went to look out the window.
It was still pretty dark but with my vision, I was able to see. At first glance it looked like nothing was there but as I turned to go back to bed a movement caught my eye. My heart quickened and I saw the familiar clothes of hunters. They had returned!
I tossed on my boots and raced from my room. He looked to be alone, if I could capture him maybe I could get him to tell me why they were attacking the Evermane.
Reaching outside I found the outside of my room and followed where I saw the figure. I tuned in on my hearing and could hear footsteps running away. Growling, I quickly followed.
I didn’t recognize the scent, but it also appeared to be masked as well. Something about it was familiar but there was too much in there that distorted the smell.
I didn’t have to chase for long, actually, I seemed to have stumbled. upon the field.
He stood in the center of the clearing, his back to me. He appeared to be looking up at the near-full moon. I knew he heard me as he slightly shifted his head to the side.

What was he doing? Why did he stop running?
“Who are you? Why did you attack this village?” I asked, keeping my distance.
The figure didn’t speak. They saw me as no threat but I wasn’t helpless.
anymore.
Closing the distance, I reached for their shoulder and twisted them to face me. His face was covered. Did he think this was a game? I had no time for games. I pulled the veil that covered his face and gasped, taking two steps back.
The hunter in question was Mya. She caught my eye and though I saw a hint of guilt, I also saw that her loyalty wasn’t with me.
“I’m sorry Riley,” her voice filled the void in the clearing and the fog in my head.
“What?” I managed before she raised her hand and blew some kind of white powder in my direction.
Blowing the cloud of dust away, I swayed where I stood. I coughed as the powder went into my mouth and nose. May began to blur, her image dancing as she neared me. I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t mind link.
My legs gave out but I didn’t remember hitting the ground.
