Chapter 9
The following morning... nothing major happened.
Well, that was if we didn’t count the loud sound of lasers lighting up the skies at 8 freaking am.
“What did you do last night?”
Emma asked as she ate her snacks at the dinner table. I gave her a puzzled look, trying to hide the fact that I and Nia went out last night...
Not in a romantic way, unfortunately.
She lifted her right eyelid and investigated me closely.
“You looked far more tired than usual, and it’s already 2 pm. I would understand if that morning laser show would wake you up, but I doubt it’s enough to prevent you from sleeping again. Besides, 8 am isn’t even that early.”
She said as she put one of those breadsticks into her mouth. She chewed on it slowly, her eyes still on me. I looked around the house.
“Where are the other two?”
“I’m not answering until you answer me.”
She said as she played with her little glass, her water shaking in it. She took a sip, before once again looking at me.
“... Are you envious?”
“Not really... I just want to know why Lisya showed up at the door, not long after the laser show, while panickingly looking for you and Nia.”
Oh... OH...
“Did Nia head to the guild?”
She shrugged her shoulders.
“I didn’t hear your answer...”
She said teasingly.
“Oh fine, we found the secret behind the goblins.”
Hearing that, she slowly pulled the seat beside her, and patted it. I approached it and sat on it. She then gave me a breadstick. I took it and ate it.
“I don’t really know if it’s even a secret, it felt so obvious, but the papers that those goblin leaders hold are basically a remote control of some kind. The demon’s army controlled their leaders, who in turn, controlled the goblins under them.”
“Oh?”
“Since the three camps form some kind of triangle, Nia pulled a line and found that the center of the three camps, is in fact, the guild. So we went there to investigate.”
“And what did you find?”
“A small box device, it looked like a transmitter with three towers, equipped with an extra listening device.”
Emma nodded as she dipped her bread in the mayonnaise.
“I don’t know where Amel went, I assume it’s related to the demon attack, so I’m guessing the guild, or wherever Riko is. Nia probably went to Amber’s place.”
“I see... alright, I’ll be heading for... wait, demon attack?”
“Yes. The laser show you heard is the city’s cannon defending against an attack.”
Call me stupid, but I thought it was a legit military training or festival of some kind. But, it does make sense for the demons to attack, they probably don’t want their high-tech device falling into the hands of random humans.
“What did you say to Lisya?”
“I told her that you two were still asleep, but Nia then came rushing down and went with her.”
“... Didn’t you just say she’s at Amber’s?”
“It’s been around 6 hours, I doubt she’s still in the guild.”
“Ah, I see...”
I grabbed another breadstick, and while chewing on it, headed towards the door.
“You’re not coming?”
“I’m a bit sleepy. Just tell me what you find later.”
“Alright.”
I said before closing the door. I decided to head toward the guild before heading out to Amber’s place.
The streets look crowded as usual. I thought it would be more quiet considering we just got attacked last morning. I guess the defenses are stronger than they looked.
Entering the guild, the guild was slightly more filled compared to usual.
Well, half of them were waiting in line for the boba. I looked around, searching for Lisya. But instead, my eyes caught Raben who was standing in line.
“I don’t know you liked my boba.”
“I loved it.”
He said while giving me a thumbs up.
“By the way, do you know where Lisya is?”
“Oh... I last saw her this morning with the cademon. She left the guild a long while ago, though. I don’t think she had returned..”
“I see, thanks.”
Waving to Raben, I headed back out.
“Actually...”
I returned to Raben and secretly handed him a coupon.
“Oh?”
“Take it.”
“Thanks.”
I waved toward him and left the guild.
I quickly headed toward Amber’s warehouse, hoping Nia really was there.
I knocked on the large metal doors, and Amber appeared from the other side.
“Oh, it’s ye, unfortunately, me did not finish the inspection.”
So one of the hopefully already failed, huh?
“Is Nia here?”
“Nia? No. Did she head here?”
“How about Lisya?”
“Me didn’t see her, either.”
“Ah, I see...”
“Here. Me don’t know if it would be useful, but who knows.”
She gave me a red-colored box.
“What is this?”
The shape looked like a normal box around the size of my palm. A small switch could be seen on its side.
“Me don’t know. Me thought ye maybe need a normal storage box with a switch on its side.”
What kind of scripted event is this? I took another look at the box, before stuffing it into my pocket anyway.
“Thanks.”
I said before darting away.
