Chapter ALAZAR - Watching My Brother
WaterRose, Meadow Mountain, Grier Country
ALAZAR
Elsabet peered out her window slit.
Alazareth knew because he was a few rooms down standing on the balcony of his corner chamber. From this angle he could see her hair moving slightly out the window slit as she watched the bailey below.
Because she heard Dorena’s laughter. He guessed.
He’d noticed the pretty blonde Watcher wandering down there awhile ago. Since the morning light.
Elsabet stared down onto the bailey. Watching the other woman.
Dorena swung her skirt as she walked.
Seeming lighter then when she’d first come. The evil is gone. He realized.
She paused to stroke a loving hand over one of the wolves resting out there to soak up some sun.
Bast exited the castle and crossed toward the stable. Hammer in hand. Unaware of Dorena’s presence in the bailey.
But she’s not so oblivious to his. He glanced down the wall of window slits and could just see Elsabet peering out. He cringed slightly. She sees it too.
She watched the way the woman’s hand paused in petting the canine as her eyes hungrily followed Bast’s sleek stroll over the dirt bailey.
Despite all his thoughts otherwise, it’s clear the valkyrie wants him for her own.
She doesn’t know she already has him. Irony in that.
Near the stable Bast turned, and Dorena waved. He offered her a bright grin.
Unwise. Alazareth winced.
But Bast paid Dorena no more mind than that as he headed behind the stable to walk along the fortress wall. Inspecting to ensure the moat didn’t further damage the Flood Room below.
Dorena rose. A pretty yellow sundress outlining her slim frame as she walked cheerfully to Sebastian.
Elsabet hissed through her teeth.
Bast’s head whipped up to look at her. He straightened from kneeling next to the gray stone wall. Turning fully in Elsabet’s direction. Tilting his head in greeting.
She tossed her head sideways and stepped from the window’s light.
But she’s watching him down there. Alazareth sensed. Knowing Bast would too.
Bast didn’t move.
Dorena’s approach slowed and she looked from Bast up toward that window and back. Shoulders slumping some. Drawing a long breath, she forced herself forward. Running a hand along one of the biceps his sleeveless tunic exposed.
He turned his head to offer her a welcoming smile. Gold hair moving over his shoulder and along his neck. Shining warmly in the afternoon sunlight.
Careful, Bast. Alazareth willed. He knew he could communicate it telepathically to his twin if he wished but this was Bast’s situation to handle. No place for me to intervene.
Sighing Alazareth headed in. Moving down the hall as he decided to return to Nightway. As he passed Elsabet’s chamber he saw her in there shaking. Shoulders lifting as she tried to stay calm. Finally, shrieking she overturned the narrow table next to her. Scattering flowers. As she moved to face the door, he stepped across the doorway, and ducked from view.
I wonder if she’s as surprised as me to find the door unlocked while Lucien is here.
She paused so long he guessed he was right. It was interesting though to see how frustrated she was that his twin gave another woman attention.
If she only knew how much he’d give her. Alazar shook his head. Finishing down the hall.
