Chapter 10
Chapter 10 Dewitt’s Past
Once Maxwell was in the car, Camila couldn’t help but ask, “What did you talk to
them about?”
“I asked my friend about the situation.”
“So you had the police take them here?” Camila pointed to the family of three who had just walked into the police station.
“Who are they?”
“The family that occupied my house.”
“They probably called the police, so the police brought them over to find out what had happened.”
Camila agreed with Maxwell and didn’t ask anything else.
When she got home, Camila received a call from the police station. They said that the family had agreed to vacate the house in three days.
Camila couldn’t believe it.
She wondered when the police station had become so efficient.
Camila happily told Maxwell the good news while he was sitting on the couch and looking at his cell phone.
Maxwell didn’t even raise his head. He just nodded and continued to look at his cell phone.
Camila took the opportunity to ask Maxwell when she could get the 80 thousand dollars from him.
This time, Maxwell put down his cell phone.
He said, “You owned your house for less than five years old, and you haven’t paid the transaction tax yet. After paying off the loan and other expenses, you won’t have 80 thousand dollars in your hand, so how can you guarantee that you can return the money to me?”

Yeah, Camila would have at most 65 thousand dollars left after paying all the
expenses.
Camila was stumped.
She stammered for quite a while.

“I’m taking the ACCA exam, and if I can pass it in one sitting, I’ll be able to get a higher–paying job.”
Maxwell was obviously not convinced and thought Camila was just stalling for
time.
But since he had promised, he would do it.
“Tomorrow morning, I’ll transfer it to your card.”
However, Maxwell put forward a new condition. “You have to keep the prenuptial agreement a secret and never let my grandfather know.”
Camila naturally agreed.
The next morning.
Maxwell came to the company. The first thing he did was to call Efrain over. Maxwell let Efrain send someone to notify Samson that the company could transfer him to the IT Department, but it was the core department, so he needed to pay 10 thousand dollars as a confidentiality deposit. When he paid it, he would be transferred.
Efrain was a shrewd and capable middle–aged man. He was very curious about why Maxwell paid so much attention to a new employee. Samson entered the company only a few days ago, yet his post had been changed several times.
And Maxwell found all kinds of excuses to make things difficult for Samson. Efrain had been in the company for many years. He had never heard of such a confidentiality deposit before.
This time, Efrain realized the huge consequences of offending Maxwell.
Samson was overjoyed about the 10–thousand–dollar rent. He failed to buy Mackenzie a ring before, so he was annoyed.
This time, he finally got back at Camila. He had paid Camila more than 10 thousand

dollars as rent these years.

Looking at the 10 thousand dollars in his account, Samson dialed Mackenzie’s phone number. He happily told her that the company had paid him a month’s salary in advance, so he could take her to buy that ring after work today.
Mackenzie nearly jumped for joy. She could show off to Camila again. She believed she could make Camila mad this time.
But it was hard to know what was going to happen.
Samson just put down the phone, and then he received a notice from the HR Department. He was asked to pay 10 thousand dollars as a confidentiality deposit. After paying it, he would be transferred to another post, and the salary would start from 800 dollars and be adjusted according to his work performance.
When Samson received the notice, he was furious.
He just got 10 thousand dollars.
But he was unwilling to give up this opportunity.
Samson thought that with his ability, he would have no problem getting a salary of 6,000 dollars a month.
It was just that he had promised Mackenzie that he would buy her a ring…
“Shit!”
Samson was so vexed that he was pulling his hair hard, but in the end, he decided to change the post first.
As for buying the ring, it could be put on the back burner. He believed that Mackenzie could understand him.
At Mercy Hospital.
Camila received Maxwell’s money and rushed to the cashier’s counter to pay the
bill.
But the cashier told her that her grandmother’s surgery fee had already been paid.
Camila hastily checked the signature on the bill. It was Dewitt.
Nearly 80 thousand dollars was not a small amount.

Camila thought, “Why did Dewitt do that?
He didn’t even tell me.
Are all doctors so kind?”

Camila arrived at the ward when Dewitt was coming out after checking the patient.
“Ms. Lambert, the date for your grandmother’s surgery has been set. It’s on next Wednesday, as scheduled,” Dewitt said.
“Dr. Booker, thank you for paying the bill for me. I’ve got the money. I’ll transfer it to you now.”
Dewitt’s expression stiffened for a moment, and he smiled awkwardly.
“You don’t have to be in such a hurry. The most important thing now is your grandmother’s surgery.”
Camila still insisted on transferring the money to him.
Just then, Dewitt got a phone call.
The voice on the other side of the phone was very loud. Camila felt it sounded a bit like Chloe’s voice. That woman loudly questioned Dewitt if he had paid the
patient’s surgery fee.
Dewitt covered the phone and walked quickly into the doctor’s office.
Camila didn’t follow him, thinking she would find him later. She went to see her grandmother first.
Dewitt entered the office. Chloe was still chattering on the phone…
Dewitt got irritated and put the phone upside down on his desk. He didn’t want to say one more word to Chloe.
After a while, the phone finally went quiet.
Dewitt pulled open a drawer and took a delicate picture frame out of it. In the frame was a picture of Dewitt and a girl.
The girl looked pure and sweet, looking extremely similar to Camila.
The girl’s name was Daniela Conner. She was Dewitt’s first girlfriend and died of

cancer at the age of twenty.

Since then, Dewitt’s determination to become a doctor was strengthened, and he vowed to save more cancer patients so that their loved ones would not suffer the same pain as he did.
At noon, Camila finally found Dewitt and transferred the money to him.
Because Camila’s grandmother had to do pre–operative preparations in two days and needed to be accompanied by her family, Camila needed to make arrangements about work and private affairs.
In the afternoon, Camila returned to the company. She did not see Mackenzie, and she heard that Mackenzie’s boyfriend had taken her to buy a big diamond ring.
At the end of the day, Camila had already asked for leave and finished her work. She was about to leave when she saw Mackenzie come back with a mask on, and the corner of Mackenzie’s eye was a little swollen as if she had a fight with
someone.
Mackenzie walked into the office, grabbed her health insurance card, and turned around. Then she saw Camila standing in the doorway.
“What are you looking at?” Mackenzie flared up.
“I have something to ask you,” Camila said.
“I’m too busy to listen to your nagging.”
“Do you know about Samson renting out my house?”
Mackenzie froze.
“Samson rented out your house? When did that happen?”
“Just in the last few days.”
“And how much did he charge?” Mackenzie gritted her teeth in anger.
“10 thousand dollars.”
“This bastard! I wondered why he suddenly wanted to buy me a diamond ring. He even lied to me that the company paid him in advance. Then, he said that he had lent the money to a friend. What a liar!” Mackenzie stomped her foot and rushed

straight out of the company.
