Chapter 12
Nadia listened to her grandmother’s words, her face turning slightly red. She was in the hospital, and she was standing in front of James. Even though they had just obtained their marriage license, they had only known each other for a day.
Elena looked back at Iris’s beaming smile and couldn’t help but shake her head. “Grandma, you have a great–grandson, don’t you?”
That’s different. Kay is your child. I want to see Nadia and that guy’s children.”
Iris withdrew her gaze and looked at Elena with affection.
The two sisters, especially Nadia, had a tough life and were raised by Iris single–handedly.
Nadia wasn’t Iris’s biological granddaughter. Nadia had been abandoned at a young age and was picked up by Iris’s son when she was only four years old. Unexpectedly, after just half a year, Iris’s son and daughter–in–law had a car accident and left. behind the two sisters.
Iris’s husband died early, and her other two sons were unfilial and unwilling to help. They saw her eldest granddaughter, Elena, as a burden. Now that Iris had taken in another little girl from outside, they were even less willing to care for Iris and her two granddaughters.
Iris had to live frugally, gathering herbs and selling them to raise Nadia and Elena to adulthood. Now seeing both of them married and starting their own families, Iris had only one wish, which was to see them have children of their own. That would make Iris completely content.
As they left the hospital, James had a gloomy expression on his face. After they got in the car, Nadia noticed that James’s expression was off. He looked fine just now in the ward. His gaze and tone of voice were unusually gentle.
But why did his face suddenly fall? He looked just fine a moment ago. But now he looked so solemn that his face went completely dark.
“Well, don’t take my grandmother’s words to heart,” Nadia explained quietly, thinking that her grandmother was pressuring them to have children and James was upset about it.
James got into the driver’s seat but didn’t make any move to start the car. Instead, he wore a cold expression, his dark eyes glaring at her, his face icy, and his voice cold.
“What’s your relationship with that doctor?”
Nadia didn’t expect him to ask such a question. “Are you talking about Dr. White? He’s just my grandmother’s attending physician, so it’s a doctor–patient relationship, Nadia answered truthfully.
Upon hearing Nadia’s words, his tense expression eased a bit.
“I don’t care what your relationship is. I married you because of my grandmother. If we don’t fall in love with each other within six months, we’ll get a divorce, and you don’t have to repay the 90 thousand dollars. But I must make one thing clear. During the duration of our marriage, you are not allowed to have any involvement with other men. After six months when we apply for the divorce certificate, you can hang out with anyone you like. It’s none of my concern.”
James’s face darkened as he expressed his demands without any expression.
This was a preemptive warning. He didn’t want to see any unexpected situations arise. And he definitely didn’t want his wife to cuckold him right after they got married.
Nadia realized after hearing James’s words that this man in front of her probably thought she and Kadin had a romantic relationship.
What kind of person did he think she was?
Nadia endured the humiliation brought by James. In her heart, she cursed, “If it weren’t for my grandmother’s medical expenses, I wouldn’t have to endure this.”
She tried so fard to suppress the anger welling up inside her and maintained a calm demeanor. She then said in a cold voice, “Don’t worry. I’m not a two–faced woman. I will never go back on my word. The 90,000 dollars can be considered a loan. I’ll write you an IOU when we get back, and I’ll repay it all within a year.”
Even if she didn’t have the means right now, she would find a way to take on part–time jobs and repay the money.
“It’s just 90 thousand dollars!” she yelled inwardly. “Was it necessary to accuse me like this?”
“I hope you can keep your promise, James said expressionlessly.
After saying that, he started the car, stepped on the gas pedal, and drove toward the exit of the parking lot.
The silence in the car was like death, and the two of them didn’t speak on the way.
When they returned to Orchid Valley, it was already 10 o’clock in the evening.
Nadia took out her keys to open the door, and James’s voice came from behind.
Chapter 12
“You don’t necessarily have to use the key for the fingerprint lock. The password is 061679. I’m only saying it once
“Okay.”
The living room light was still on when they entered. Daisy was sitting on the sofa, smiling at the two of them.
“You’re back. Hurry up. It’s late. Take a shower and go to bed”
After Daisy finished speaking, she got up and walked toward the guest room.
Nadia suddenly realized that her luggage was still in the guest room. If Daisy was sleeping in the guest room, then where would she sleep? She couldn’t possibly sleep with James on the first day they met, right?
Thinking like that, Nadia unconsciously followed behind Daisy and walked toward the guest room.
When they reached the doorway, Daisy suddenly turned around and asked, “Nadia, why are you following me in? I’ve already taken your luggage to James’s room.”
After hearing Daisy’s words, Nadia stood dumbfounded in place.
Seeing Nadia still in a daze, Daisy turned around forcefully and pushed Nadia and James into the master bedroom. James, seeing his grandmother’s determination, realized that he couldn’t escape that night. He had to share a room with Nadia.
Nadia suddenly found herself very close to James. The thought of spending the night with this man made her panic.
“Oh no,” she thought. “My virginity is at stake.”
Although she had been in a relationship with Jim for many years, they had never gone beyond holding hands. They hadn’t even kissed each other, let alone shared a bed.
Nadia was a conservative woman who didn’t believe in premarital sex. Such things should only be done after marriage. But then again, now they were married. However, as long as James didn’t make a move, she wouldn’t either.
James was also frustrated with his grandmother, who always treated him unreasonably. He wasn’t incapable of finding a girlfriend. Why did his grandmother have to force him to marry this woman in such an extreme way?
For the sake of his grandmother’s well–being, James had to comply. After all, he had been taught to be a filial person ever since he was a boy.
Daisy pushed them into the room and forcefully closed the door. She mischievously smiled and thought, “Now there’s only the two of you. Where do you think you can run off?”
e wanted to make sure that she could enjoy being a
Her task here was to keep an eye on them. She had to be very careful. She t great–grandmother as soon as possible.
As expected, when they were pushed into the room by Daisy, Nadia saw her suitcase right beside her.
The room had a large, seven–foot–wide bed. Both the bedsheets and curtains were gray. The floor was dark, and even the wardrobe doors were light gray.
The whole room looked gloomy, and it was her first time entering this room.
The bedding was still new. It seemed that James rarely stayed here.
As they entered, Nadia saw that there was a separate bathroom on the left with a super–sized circular bathtub inside. Nadia looked around the bedroom and realized that there was only one bed. How were they going to sleep that night? James ignored Nadia and picked up his pajamas from the bedside table before entering the bathroom.
Soon after, the sound of running water came from the bathroom, making Nadia feel anxious.
“What should do?” she asked inwardly.
Time passed by. After thinking for more than 20 minutes, she realized that there was a sofa in the living room. She could sleep there later. She took out her pajamas from the suitcase and was about to go to the bathroom outside.
James walked out of the bathroom, wearing a white bathrobe. His slightly tousled hair casually fell on his forehead, and water droplets trickled down his handsome face.
The faint scent of shower gel intoxicated her instantly.
She couldn’t help but stare at him for around half a minute, mesmerized by his charming appearance. People might use the phrase, “The most beautiful flower,” to describe women, but it fell short when it came to describing the man in front of her.
His looks made her feel inferior as a woman.
James noticed the woman in front of him staring at him with infatuation, and his eyes suddenly turned cold and stern
“Have you seen enough? Why don’t you wipe off your drool?”
