Chapter 744 Two Different Worlds
"Why are you holding a basin at home?"
Skylar snapped out of her thoughts and picked up the coins disdainfully from the basin. "I'm going to make instant noodles. Do you want some?"
Tobias wasn't interested in having instant noodles, but it wasn't because he considered them junk food. He just didn't have the habit of eating them.
Skylar definitely had a talent for spotting instant noodles. She could tell that there were all sorts of instant noodles from rummaging through their kitchen cabinets, with the most abundant flavor being pickled vegetables.
"Don't instant noodles come in a cup? Why do you need a basin? Are you going to take the noodles out of the cup and put them in a basin?" Tobias asked.
Skylar stood up from the couch. She forgot what she wanted to ask Tobias earlier. She cleared her throat and said, "You really don't know anything about living frugally. Cup noodles cost five each, but the ones in bags are just over one each when they are on sale."
If Tobias didn't know that Skylar was accustomed to being thrifty, he would have felt like a failure. Anyone who was unaware of the context might think that he couldn't even afford to keep his woman full because she was reluctant to buy cup noodles.
This kind of consumer mindset seemed deeply ingrained in her.
All of a sudden, Tobias recalled what his mother had commented about social class and lifestyle habits.
She had always believed that Skylar and their family were from two different worlds and that they belonged to different social classes. In her opinion, marriage and love still required a match in status. Perhaps Claudia had forgotten the life that their family used to live in the past.
Tobias tightened his grip on Skylar's wrist because he didn't want her to go to the kitchen.
She tried to struggle from his grip. Although he didn't use much force, she couldn't get rid of his hand.
"Don't always eat instant noodles. Besides, it's Christmas. People may think that I mistreat you."
Since Skylar was not one to enjoy going out, she wanted to stay at home during the few days of the holiday. However, she wasn't at ease at home because she was constantly monitoring the comments online. This time, she admitted that she was influenced by the comments online.
Undoubtedly, she had become the talk of the town. She had read many comments about her that became etched in her mind.
She lazily replied, "I'll just eat something simple. I don't feel like going out, and there're not many ingredients at home for me to prepare a decent meal. Madelyn cleaned out the fridge before she left because she was scared that the food inside would go bad if I didn't cook."
Finally, Tobias let go of his hand and went to the kitchen with Skylar. After she opened the double-door refrigerator, he looked at the big space inside blankly. The items inside hardly needed such a huge refrigerator.
Only a jar of peanut butter and two cucumbers remained in the fridge. It would definitely disappoint a hungry thief who decided that their house was worthy of robbing food from.
With Madelyn gone, the house was a mess. Tobias couldn't help but lament the fact that their life together would still be plagued by the mundane chores of life even if they didn't enter a marriage. "Shall we go to the supermarket and get some groceries together?" Tobias asked as he glanced at the time. If they went to the supermarket now, they would still make it in time to cook dinner at home. If Skylar felt lazy, he would cook by himself. However, he would have to depend on luck as to whether the food would turn out tasty.
Skylar closed the refrigerator door and leaned against it. She crossed her arms and thought about it for a moment, then realized that she would enjoy going to the supermarket together with Tobias. Going to the supermarket and getting groceries with a loved one was quite a happy thing to fantasize about.
However, if they were spotted together at the supermarket, the happiness would come to an abrupt end. She was already in the spotlight, and their public appearance together would only provide solid evidence for the rumors.
After careful consideration, she resisted the temptation and rejected his suggestion, "I don't want to go... It's tiring to shop at the supermarket. I'll just eat whatever we have."
It was the first time that Tobias had taken the initiative to invite a woman to go to the supermarket, and yet Skylar didn't accept his invitation.
She took out a packet of instant noodles that was grilled beef-flavored. "How about some grilled beef instant noodles for you?”
Tobias' mind was no longer focused on whether they should eat instant noodles or not.
Since she wanted to eat them, he could only indulge her. It was better than not eating anything all day.
