Chapter 740 A Roll In The Hay
Tobias noticed that Skylar was staring at his watch. He removed it from his wrist and placed it in her hand. "You like it?"
The cold steel watch weighed heavily on Skylar's palm.
As though having received a hot potato, she swiftly put the watch on the coffee table. "It's too expensive, and I might just drop it!"
Chuckling, Tobias said, "So what if it's expensive? Just say the word if there's anything of mine that you like."
Skylar discovered that his sweet-talking skills had clearly improved recently. "This is a men's watch, so it's useless to me even if I like it. Aren't you afraid I'd give it to some other men to curry favor if you were to gift it to me?”
Despite knowing all too well that she was joking, Tobias did not like to hear it. "You can try it if you dare."
At once, Skylar zipped her mouth since she would only be dooming herself to answer that.
Tobias opened the gift box. When he saw the gift's original packaging, he snickered before drawling, "You gifted me an e-cigarette?"
That was a gift Skylar had spent tremendous thought on and found most suitable for the man. Never had she expected him to disdain it so much.
Although he did not spell it out, anyone with eyes could see his contempt for the gift. "It's super popular these days, with many shops selling it at the mall. You always smoke, and it's bad for your health." Tobias was inherently averse to the e-cigarette, finding it strange to smoke it.
Lifting his hand, he stroked her short hair. Her hair was increasingly shorter then, and while he had never mentioned it, he liked it better when she had long hair flowing past her shoulders.
Back then, her hair was black, not the current maroon after she had dyed it.
His voice was incredibly gentle as he fibbed, "I love it, so I can't bring myself to use it. I'll keep it in a safe place."
A sense of defeat inundated Skylar.
Gah! He has zero interest in my gift to him! I'll never again give him anything until I'm rolling in dough. All this isn't to his standard at all!
"Go ahead and keep it! In fact, leave it until it has rusted before taking it out again. Perhaps it would've become an antique at that time. Don't you think so?"
It so happened that We Wish You a Merry Christmas, which was sung on Christmas Eve Special every year was playing on the TV right then. She cast a glance at the TV, inevitably hurt inwardly. After Grandma left, Christmas doesn't feel like Christmas anymore.
She placed the monetary gift from Claudia into a drawer.
Tobias went to take a shower. Skylar caught sight of his phone that he had tossed on the bed before stepping into the bathroom. When someone was a clean freak, it showed in all aspects. The man's phone was always plain and pristine. It was a bare phone without a screen protector or a phone cover. On top of that, it was so clean that there were no fingerprints anywhere. Her phone was another story. No matter how nice the accessories and adorable the phone cover were, it was always greasy with fingerprints everywhere. There were many missed calls on Tobias' phone screen, and Idania's name was on the list.
She probably called to wish Tobias a Merry Christmas. Speaking of her, I used to be quite jealous and always overthink things, thinking he had feelings for her. But then, there's the saying of finding someone older to make a partner. Now that I cast my mind back on it, my worries were all for naught. He said he would never reconcile after breaking up, for he was not in the habit of turning back time. From his attitude toward her, I believe his claim.
Nevertheless, she did not feel smug or scorn Idania for getting what she deserved. After all, there was a possibility of her ending up in the same straits in the future.
By the time Tobias came out of the bathroom after his shower, Skylar had already prepared a set of clothes for him, anticipating a roll in the hay.
